I'm sorry if I missed a previous thread that might have talked about this but I found none.

I don't have a problem with how you're being immediately thrown into action (DA2-style) but it's strange that there seems to almost no information what actually was going on at the conclave for the first 45 minutes of the game.

It's not that I don't know what the conclave was, it's more that it was kind of a big deal and it's completely brushed off in the first minutes of the game along with everything else. Cassandra spams you with information about the veil and the rifts (and your mark) as if she was an expert on these things by studying it a few years yet the "explosion" happened only some days ago.

That's why I wondered if I somehow missed a introduction movie or a portion of gameplay where this is explained a little further or is this really as rushed as it looks? Basically I only watched the DA Keep movie, read some of the new codex entries (already bugged by the way, gj Bioware) and read the short character history at the beginning of the game. Is there all there is or will there be more?

Nope, actually when you press "start new game" you can see conclave temple is blown up.

Yeah, but this is really stupid, isn't it?

It's like showing Ferelden's troops marching to Ostagar in the main menu of DA Origins and then begin the game at Flemeth's hut where Alistair explains you were going through the Joining while sleeping and what the blight & darkspawn is while Leliana and Wynne join your group for no reason whatsoever. And after that you're playing the Return to Ostagar DLC.

Imho this really hurts the atmosphere of the game.

When you think about it, it makes sense not to tell events prior to those when you "wake up". You, as the player and the character, have no idea what happened and rely on the explanation given to you by others.

This.

You as a playeyr may know things but your character (as he/she mention) can't remember anything.

you do learn more about it as the game goes on, even about what you were doing there before the explosion

It's fine. Some stuff at the beginning seems confusing (like Solas instantly knowing your mark can close the rift), but at least it doesn't open up with a grand, epic, large backstory that you ultimately don't care about because you need to be invested in a world to care about the details of the backstory. This is something that almost every single other big fantasy games has been doing for the last years, and it's mind-boggling.

Instead, right out of the gate, the game opens up with interesting fantasy stuff, strong characters and conflict, but without any major logical leap in the established story like ME3 did.

I get the point that the character can't remember anything and that some things are left in the dark purposely, that's okay.

What's not okay (at least in my mind) that there was this huge thing going on, the conclave. Mages, templars and chantry representatives (probably some important people in the midst) were gathering at one place, then the whole thing blows up and I don't feel anything about it, because I didn't even know what was going on there or who was there (besides the Divine). No even my companions seem to care that much, it's all about the rift, the veil and the mark in the first minutes.

If I wouldn't know Haven from Origins I don't know if I would feel a connection at all, it's just strange how this big event that starts the game (and the inquisition) is handled.

but i agree if you didnt play the first game and didnt know haven or the temple of ashes you probably wouldn't care about the places, but you learn as you go about why everyone was there and what it was all for and what happened.
