Right after the big mission in Orlais, Blackwall has disappeared on me, and his tarot card now shows an X on it. Has he left?

 

I've been on good terms with him and regularly took him on missions. He even confided in me, so I'm thinking the approval was good. Never riled him up or otherwise disagreed with him since this is my good guy playthrough. What's going on here?

That depends on your actions on the rest of his companion quest.

check the barn, use the search function you will find a note on the carved Gryphon. Talk to the messenger that appears and head to orlais to rescue / help him.

E: Funny. Upon a reload I now have an exclamation mark where he used to be. Didn't have that there the first time.

Same thing happened to me just now. i thought Blackwell and I were buddies, and after the Wicked mission he is gone.
