Small spoiler ahead.

 

 

 

I have just met up with Hawke in DAI and he is a mage but my version of Hawke was a Warrior. I have checked my DA Keep tapestry and I locked and imported it with him listed as my custom warrior, it even has the custom name I created for him in DA2.

 

It's a small inconsistency but makes me wonder if any of my other choices haven't carried over.

 

Awesome game regardless and I'm having loads of fun playing.

Default Hawke is a mage so it sounds to me like there is a good chance your import didn't work for one reason or another.
