I'm almost 50 hours in the game and I feel that I might screw up Solas Romance and thinking about restart. Please help!

So here's the situation:

I had finished Solas' personal quest of saving a wisdom spirit, and had the "I admire your intellect" conversation on the balcony. However, the "heart" dialog choice didn't pop out. And when asked "what does it mean", solas said "it means I respect you deeply and I had wasted enough of your evening". I had been very careful with Solas' approval rate. I sided with the mages early on, that causes his approval rate to drop, but I later did everything I could to raise and up the point when I did his personal quest, I don't even see the message of him approves, which I assume it's because I maxed it out.

I'm very frustrated at this point, I feel that I might screw up Solas' romance somehow and I really like him. Is it because I also flirted with other characters? Do you think I need to restart a new character and sided with Templars in Redcliff?

Could anyone help? Also, I'd much appreciate if answers can keep the spoiler to the minimum. I've just finished Warden quests, and would like to enjoy the rest of the game spoiler free.

Thousand Thanks! (And Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it).

You're playing a female elf Quizzy, aren't you? I'm just checking to be sure because he only romances fem elf quizzy.

If you ever picked the "start a relationship with X" option with another person then you are locked out of Solas' romance. You must be careful with your flirts. :)

Did you conscript the mages? He approves if you ally with them, but not if you conscript them.

From my understanding it advances further after a later mission.

I'm pretty sure you have to kiss him on the balcony. That's the lock-in scene.

Thank you for the replies guys! I'm very frustrated and really appreciate the help!

I'm a fem-elf mage (thanks for checking ;) )

I did flirted with a few other people (Blackwall, Sera, Cullen...) Not sure if I "locked" with anyone. I had a few romance related conversation with Blackwall, maybe that's the problem? I don't remember the game offer me a blatant choice to "start romance with XXX". But I suspect maybe I carried the Blackwall flirt a bit too far. I picked a few heart dialog options with him, he first refuse and then decide to go on with it. I just assume it'd be like in ME2, if you romance 2 people at the same time, they'll ask you to make a decision.

I didn't conscript the mages (I'm sort of strong in supporting free mages since DA2) I invited them as equal partners and Solas wasn't happy. But I did make up for that with his artifacts and his personal missions, I thought it'd be enough, I mean his approval even strop raising (as in I pick options I know would gain approval, but got no "Solas slightly approves" messages. And I did had the fade kiss in dream Haven after I sided with the mages in redcliff.

I also heard the balcony kiss (that I didn't get to see... damn it) is the romance official start scene. I've reload the game to choose warden's fate before that, but doesn't change anything, He just look all somber and walk away.

So everything considered ... it seems I got locked out Solas romance line and had to restart?

It has sth to do with Blackwall. I had the same issue, and when I checked to see if I could romance Cullen, he also refused and responded that I had already been with someone. It seems that when you finish Blackwall's personal quest, people will think you two are together even before the scene that he comes to your room at night. All you need to do is break up with Blackwall in the scene that I mentioned, and all other romance choices will reopen for you. I hope this helps.

BTW you have to break up with Blackwall BEFORE Solas brings you to the balcony, if you want to romance Solas.

Did you kiss Solas in the Fade? (the first cutscene at Skyhold when you visit Haven in the Fade) You can't do his romance if you don't do that.

Otherwise, you may have to advance BW's relationship to end it, because if you're halfway into it, you have to finish it before you can romance anyone else. (its v easy and fast to do, just go with him to the creepy bone place and then when he comes to your room, tell him to leave)

See this is why my heros are loyal to one person lol. The love triangles in origins was easy, I had to YouTube the fenris/anders/hawke love triangle cuz I kept messing that up. After DA2 I'm done being flirtatious i decide my romance choice while creating a new character and I stick with it I avoid flirting with others cuz im too afraid it'll lock out the romance im trying to pursue.

But you said Solas disapproved when you allied with the mages, are you sure? Cuz I remember making them our prisoners and he didn't like that but I reloaded and allied with them and I got his approval. I didn't have any problems with Solas's romance but I did mess up on IB's cuz I romanced him on my 1st PT and I didn't get the romance achievement until my 2nd PT when I romanced Cullen. I may have to YouTube IB's romance next time I choose him so I don't mess it up again :P

OH, okay, missed that you did do the Fade kiss.

It doesn't have to do with approval or choices if you're triggering the balcony scene. It really sounds like you're in the Blackwall situation. Reload, end that, then try again with Solas.
