Playing nightmare lvl17 and tried Emprise Du Lion area. I didnt have a chance, I got destroyed 2-3 packs in. So... I made some changes, and with this new build - again on nightmare - I am completely and utterly destroying the enemy. Not spoiling but lets just say a certain keep and a certain boss was slaughtered with no re-supply.
I have NO idea why it works, I suspect there are some synergies I'm not aware off. Anyway here goes:
Varric is the standard archer tree + artificier build. Just went artificier for the passives.
Cass is SnB tank with templar tree. I'm not sure what she has that triggers all this madness, maybe spell purge? Or maybe the fact that she gives the whole team a chance to weaken in addition to rift mage?
Solas is a spirit support, but I gave him all the rift spells for dps.
I am playing Necromancer. My rotation is:
Walking bomb --> Static Cage --> Double Energy Barrage with the upgrade /w conductive current (this works because of flashpoint).
Now here is where things go crazy and again I do not know why.
I walking bomb the weakest mob I can see, then use static cage and energy barrage the target. Meanwhile Cass is in melee doing stuff, varric nuking, and solas casting spells and dispelling.
With the static cage upgrade, double energy barrage does 792% weapon damage x0.5 = 1200% weapon damage x2 = 2400% weapon damage. This NOT counting crits and damage passives or other bonuses. The thing is... my screen is in constant slow motion due to combos. I feel like Im playing in slow motion in battle all the time.
I dont even know what these combos are, I managed to spot "nightmare" - so that counts for one. But there is much more going on here, because the slow motion effect is almost constant.
When the first mob dies, walking bomb goes of - infecting all other mobs, and I then use another static cage + barrage, there are so many graphical effects on screen that I dont even know what the hell is going on. But the chain reaction of walking bomb inside the static cage drowning my screen in colors all while the slow motion occurs almost constantly.
I made this thread for two reasons. One: To give the idea of this set-up to other people struggling with nightmare. Two: In the hope that someone can help me understand what may be happening.
I went from a slow but steady nightmare playthrough were all encounters were pretty hard, to completely obliterating the enemy.
