Looks great. The eyes are maybe a touch too far apart, but it works on this elf. It adds to her elfiness.  :)

They definitely are but it worked for me on this model.  The eyes are actually spaced as far as can be achieved using this particular head type.  One thing that bothers me but it may be just me, I believe the eyes' iris are too big for the face size (I think).  But no way to adjust that.

I see what you mean. Control over that would be incredible. Another wishlist feature for DLC/patch...

I really hope Bioware is paying attention to our requests for additional features. They're gain so much support from their fanbase if they responded positively. Yes, they should have included more hair already. But if they hear us and just give us hair/eyebrow control/etc etc, we'll be happy.

That we will, no much excuse in my mind for not having comprehensive options in a fantasy role playing game.  Skyrim was a problem too and the options there were significantly better, of course the mods took care of the rest and the amount of hair options alone that are available now for Skyrim is quite staggering.  I really hope somebody fixes the mesh though as the current one is quite tough to work with.

When I look at the models being created by people, the first thing that strikes me is "the eyes are wrong", typically too big and then it dawned on me to pay attention to the iris hence my comment.

I have not played the game for more than a few hours here and there, although I now have 3 or 4 playable characters in different classes ready to go.  From what I have seen so far though, the environments are quite nicely detailed for the most part and look great, shame that the same cannot be said of the characters.  Not sure why its hard to create a workable mesh, I see modders (most of whom are more than likely not professional modelers) doing a way better job.  I mean realism kind of goes out the window in a fantasy RPG no?  For a 100+ hour game with as many cut scenes as this game has, make some of the people look good at least, lol.

I'm 40 hours into the game, and my primary character (my avatar) holds up quite well in the cutscenes. The landscapes and regions are incredible and are massive - I wouldn't be surprised if the total world size was bigger than Skyrim's.

I don't know the first thing about character modeling, so I've no idea how much effort Bioware's team put into the creation of the character system. I'm sure they deserve praise for what they did - but maybe someone who knows better could tell me why Bioware did a terrible job. What's clear is that there's no excuse for the clear deficiency of hair.

Elves are tough. Here's a couple of shots of my first attempt at an elf:

Why would one use Human face propotions on elves. You don't apply them on dogs or apes. Not saying elves are apes^^ just that they are not humans so they don't have to obey human propotions :P Same goes for Qunari, people try hard to make Qunari look like humans.

Exactly. And no excuse why "amateur" (only saying that because I really don't know professions, only that they do this in their spare time and don't work for Bioware) are better at hair than the professional dev team.

Actually, I said that very thing in the first post...  :P

When I made this elf, I was testing human proportions on an elf character. The next build will feature distorted proportions: higher and wider eyes, longer nose, maybe a few other things.  :)

So...I had to restart my game since PS4 didn't allow me to transfer.

Honestly it took me probably 20 run-throughs of the epilogue to finally get a face that I was semi-happy with. Now that I compare this model with my last attempts I realize that it was worth using that measuring tape. I used a dressmaker tape so that doing the 1/3s and 1/5s or whatever was easy (just folded it up, I suck at math anyways).

I wanted a face that showed a lot of charm and wit. It animates a lot better, that's for sure!

Cullen and Cassandra were great markers to how a "human" face should look like, minus Cassandra's heavy eye makeup. She looks wonky around Sera and Solas (dem elf eyes) and at times Josie too, but I don't mind.

Can't handle dat creep face.

Thank you for the tips on this thread! Eyeballing can only go so far ;)

I'm glad it helped! The pictures definitely show the proportion and the better animation jumps out in the creep face. :P

OPTION 1 (lengthening the face)

1. Lower the jaw.

2. Lower the eyes to the new middle.

3. Lower the cheeks to just below the eyes (like you have now, but according to the new eye placement).

4. Bring the eyes together just a touch.

5. Lower the nose to the exact middle point between the brow and the chin.

6. Lower the mouth to 1/3 between nose and chin.

OPTION 2 (retaining face shape)

1. Lower the nose to the exact middle between brown and chin (lower it just a touch).

2. Lower the mouth to 1/3 between nose and chin.

3. Bring the eyes in a touch.

Feel free to post pics of one of both of these options for further comments. :)

Cheers! went with option 2 because the jawline was already at max

Let me know if you have further feedback :)

I think you could probably pull in the cheekbones a bit, unless you prefer them that wide.

I keep making characters and deleting them over and over again...anyone have some tips? I always have an issue with cheekbones protruding too much and when I try to take them down a bit it looks funny. And the jaw and chin...what a headache. I aim for softer features and shorter, rounder faces. But can never get that. Argh.

Here is an album of my character, hopefully I did this correctly. (The images do contain spoilers...I think you have to warn people? Never done this before).

Awesome post, dude.  Not sure how to recreate Dragon's Dogma Lucy or Lydia, but at least my Inquisitor won't look so hideous.  Thanks.  Now, if only we could do something about the hair-style selections....

Hey, good to see you here! I'm slowly working on an accurate Siri, but I'm still not satisfied. I need a ponytail option to pull off her traditional look, or the medium length messy look that she usually has. When I was modeling her latest look, I actually had Dragon's Dogma CC open at the same time and kept flipping between the channels!  :P

Much more proportionate. It would be interesting to see her with the eyes and cheeks in a bit, like the others recommended. Just as a test to see how it turns out. It would also be interesting to see her with the wide cheeks but with a wider jaw.

Well that's a great base to work with. Here's a few suggestions to try, based on the build you have here:

1. Bring the eyes down 25% of the slider bar.

2. Reduce the underbite a bit.

3. Lower the nose and mouth to achieve proportion with the lowered eyes.

4. Try bringing the mouth forward 25% of the slider bar.

5. Test these changes with and without the cheeks brought in 25% of the slider bar.

Feel free to post the results for more comment.  :)

Thank you so so much! I will try out your tips! It is so helpful to have another set of eyes to point out the things that are bothering me but I can't 'see' so to speak. Thank you again for taking a look and for just creating this post. It has been truly helpful. :D

Hmm.. I think it' probably best not to lower the eyes (or lower it but only a bit) if he wants to keep that bun hair style.

What I recommend is actually:

1. Shorten the nose just a bit. So eyebrows to nose: nose to chin is 1:1.

2. Make eye spacing a bit narrower.

3. Could have wider nose/nostril.

4. Could adjust jowls, cheekbones and cheekshape sliders to even out the face line in 45 degrees.

Thank you so much for your advice as well. You guys are awesome, about to sit down and work on it. Once again, thank you so much! :)

Update: So I tried again and failed...not due to your guys advice, simply because I cannot eye ball something (can be confirmed by my husband when I drive his pick up...LOL) and most importantly I don't have a creative bone in my body. Tomorrow going to give the tape measure and the face ratio scale a try though, thanks for that tip Aleithian!

This is ultimately what I am trying to achieve, made by other creators (particularly the first one). The first is from a random forum I came across (and I love it), the second from the DA Nexus.
