I know the gaming news media make a big deal about his french mustache and his sexuality, but honestly the most interesting thing about Dorian is that he's SO tevinter that it challenges a lot of social notions (not just sexual orientation).
I just finished talking to him about slavery (the irony of Herald saying "Well WE don't have slaves in the south!" made me laugh, given our American heritage) and the way the voice actor challenges the notion of slavery always being a bad thing for people brought out emotional responses that were genuine and impulsive. I had to consider the fact that I like Dorian's character but that I am more willing to have him disapprove of me than to give tevinter a pass for perpetuating slavery, while at the same time considering that indentured servitude takes many different forms and that, pragmatically, Dorian is right about some of his statements.
I feel like his stark contrast of being a decent dude but also having such radically different notions of society is what makes him awesome.
