This is probably not the case, but the 4790K should have an integrated Intel HD4600 video adapter, so could it be that this is enabled instead of your 970? You can be sure if you enter the BIOS (check your motherboard's manual on how to enter during boot - Usually it's either "Delete" or function buttons "F1" or "F2" before Windows startup), then under intergrated peripherals (or similar) leave the IGP as disabled / or enable dgpu instead of igpu.

It seems strange that you get an error message when trying to enter the Nvidia controlpanel, assuming it is the Nvidia controlpanel you get an error for? Do you get a code with it aswell? Something is definitely not right with your software because you should be able to enter it no problem.

The error dont have any numbers, only words, in my case words in Hebrew.

You don't have to do any of that. All you need to do is make sure the monitor is connected to the video card and not the HDMI/DVI/DisplayPort on the motherboard.

And how do I do that? Open my computer physically?

what do you mean running awfully? like stuttering?

maybe you have something like fraps, evga precisionx or some overlay software like that?

try closing programs and identify which one is causing the problem..

also disable aero

Awfully like I have a potato computer that cant run it on ultra high or even medium.

Look on the companies website for your model if u don't want to open case.

Though u should get used to doing that as computers need cleaning.

No. Don't open it up.

Just look in the back of your PC. I made this diagram just for you.

back-of-computer.jpg

If it is connected to the onboard video, make sure you turn off your PC before you unplug the monitor cable and plug it into the video card.

Windows 8 = Windows vista, not worth upgrading.

Pure ignorance in this comment. Vista was a technical disaster. 8 is nothing like Vista. Outside when it first released it had interface issues you could easily mod yourself, it's fine. 8.1 is not the issue. It actually has better performance than W7. You know how I know you've never actually sat down and used it?

@OP do you have latest drivers and everything updated properly? If so, I would test this on other games and see if you have a problem. If you do then most likely it's associated with a hardware problem.

I think you mean the SLI cable.

401-MB-0033-01_XL_8.jpg

That's only needed if you have two or more Geforce video cards running on SLI. If you have only one video card (a single GTX 970), you don't need it.

You should just focus on the monitor cable and see where it is connected to the back of the PC. If you're having trouble, you can try taking some pics and we might be able to get a better idea.

It's a cable that's connected from your computer to your monitor. It's hard to miss. The connectors should look something like this.

DVI

HDMI

Displayport

or VGA

Nvidia Geforce GTX 880 gaming

i7-CPU @ 2.6 GHz (Quad Core)

16GB RAM

1920 X 1080, 60GHz

Operating system: Windows 8.1....

I have similar specs as u and I run mostly on ultra and high with MSAA off. The game mostly have no problems though I almost never get 60 fps (it drops to 20 ish in Hinterland) and some microsuttering.

Other than that, the game runs quite smoothly and I do not really care about fps as long as it is above 30. One thing I do is to turn off most of the background application before I start the game.

PS: the game lags like hell in multiplayer though.

Honestly mate if you need this handholding just to plug a monitor in the right port, I'd take your 2k pc back and get a nice telly and a ps4. Its not meant to be rude but there will be times in the future when your pc will need more complicated upkeep and you have to think, you know, is it for me?

Or keep it and muddle through, I wish you luck trying to sort your problem out and getting the game running like it should on your beast pc.

Actually, I'm having the opposite reaction to this thread. :) Elfyoth is showing tenacity and is willing to admit ignorance in order to learn. I'll bet that in a few years when it's time for a new PC Elfyoth will be ready to build one!

Also, bwmcrazy is being awesome about helping. Interactions like this make forums worthwhile.
