Fascinating discussion y'all. I'm only halfway done with the ball, but I'm already sick of this mission and everything to do with Orlais in general. I have a question about the war table mission, where Gaspard tries to invade Ferelden or something if he's made Emperor. Is it available if Anora rules Ferelden? If yes, then is the outcome same as with Alistair? The only thing keeping me from putting Gaspard on the throne right now is that I don't want him to invade Ferelden after I (well, the Warden) saved it from the Blight.

You get the war table mission no matter who rules Ferelden. Completing it has the same positive effect for Orlesian/Ferelden relations.

Strangely enough, I actually liked it. It provided a welcome break from the kill-everything routine, even if Josephine suggests the Orlesian Court are just demons in disguise. Even the (sometimes infuriating) timer (court approval) helped infuse the setup with a sense of urgency, though it did force me to metagame. A pity you cannot hold such balls at Skyhold.

I blackmailed them all. Told them to work for the Inquisition. After all that display of smug and "can't touch me, lulz", I just wanted to rub it in their faces that someone new to the game owned them in just one night.

Okay, so that video that shows Celene, Gaspard, and Briala ...

Celene looks older, and Gaspard and Briala look younger. Shouldn't Gaspard be older than Celene if he had a wife who killed one of her family members? Or did he get married at like 18 when Celene was like 15 or 16?

Also, the book made it seem Celene and Briala were the same ages, yet Celene still looks way older. I guess being empress puts wrinkles on her face.

Fiona also looks young, I suppose it's an elven thing.

I thought it's a nice little touch that there is gossip about Celene's sex life if you reconcile them

The game never mentions Celene having Briala's family killed does it? That might have something to do with people's desire to reconcile them.

Of course, I think their reconciliation makes sense in-game even with TME.

Briala is a horrible ****ing person.

She had HER childhood friend murdered (or tried to) in order to cover up her relationship with Celene.

She's also willing to go back to sleeping with her for power.

A plague on all your houses.

Wait, when did Briala murder her childhood friend? I don't remember that in the book. I remember her mom had another elven maid killed so that Briala would get favor from Celene instead of the other maid.

The Elven servant you rescue from being assassinated.

I thought someone was framing Briala.

She knew Briala for decades.

Which is why Briala is having her killed.

Briala is certainly no saint (which is hardly surprising, considering the nastiness of Orlesian politics), but no worse than any of the others.

Where?

Skyhold, some random NPCs near the shops talked about it.

She was Briala's friend?!?! That's too funny. I thought she was just another elf working for Briala.

I got the ending where you force all 3 of them to work together.

Unfortunately, you'll find that the game goes on to treat this exactly the same as if you'd just given Celene the victory. Leliana will talk about Celene "rooting out the last of Gaspard's supporters" etc.

I don't know if there are other lines depending on your answers, but the servant didn't say that she was Briala's friend when you meet her...she only tells you that she knew the ambassador and her history with Celene.

I got the impression they'd known each other a very long time but it's up for interpretation I suppose.

Briala was Celene's handmaid for years, that elf in the quarters only worked with Briala during those years. Briala was smart enough not to make friends, not when the stakes were that high. They worked together, that doesn't mean they were friends.

Honestly, I don't get why people point at "bad" thing the 3 of them do and think that justifies anything. Sure, Celene manipulated and schemed and sacrificed others to get her throne. Sure, Gaspard started a war and killed probably thousands of Orlesians to get what he wants, Briala may have sacrificed and manipulated too, but they all have good intentions.

Gaspard wants to unite Orlais. Celene (And Briala) wants to unite Orlais with education, equality, and culture. Nobody should fool themselves by thinking its possible to get power by being a nice guy: How many people does our inquisitor kill without a second thought?

Now I didn't read the novel, but when it was referenced in game that Celene "purged" an alienage, I let the assassin kill her. Personally, I don't care what her reasoning was as there is no excuse for killing civilians.

Briala will rule through Gaspard in each of my playthroughs. My elves will be free!

Sometime I feel like a lot of people haven't read The Masked Empire yet, but if they do and they still find that unhealthy toxic emotionally abusive relationship romantic...well that's beyond me.

- Celene is happy and gets exactly what she wants
- Briala is happy and gets exactly what she wants
- Celene rewards Briala with nobility
- Elves get more rights and Orlais enters a new golden age

So yes...in my opinion, their relationship is worth restoring.

Yeah, it just requires Briala to not care about her murdered family or she's lying down with a person who purged a political rival.

The fact she IS willing to overlook it shows Briala is a horrible person.

So, yeah, why not?

Let the two evil people have their romance.

What did Briala ever do yo you to be put back into such a horrid relationship?  Abusive doesn't even begin to describe it

do u even know what kind of a relationship they had? LOL

their issue is that Celene can't change over nigh, & that's what Briala was W8 for, that she changes thing over night, there was no abuse between them, & when u get the right evidence it make it clear that She did not plot against her, despite all she wanted to save Celene's life, even if she would ended up using the situation to push her from the throne, her priority was saving her life, to say it short there is a lot of misunderstanding between them + Briala's impassions

i only don't know how to make them make up, well i did this dialogue options with my warrior, but in the end it did not matter, it went differently no matter what i chose in the end

Briala is a pet to Celene, not a person.  She lies and uses her for her own purposes.  This is not a relationship built upon love or mutual understanding.

Celene paid the ultimate price for her deeds and Briala now leads Orlais from behind the throne like a puppetmaster. There was too much blood on the scales for it to have ended otherwise from my standing point. Pretty jarring that there was no real reaction from Briala after Celenes death, though....

they have trust issues & misunderstanding + what i said in my previous post, but despite how they play the game, they love each other, they are just good at acting & suppressing their emotions, if they wouldn't then they would be dead in that game already, if they are together is best choice, at least for Orley, more stable Orley

There is a three-halla statue door (a mission will pop up calling it the vault door when you are close) in the Guest Wing building of the Servant's Quarter. Inside there is an elven locket. Show it to Celene's handmaidens in the Grand Ballroom and Briala on the balcony just outside the Grand Ballroom. (You may have to resolve the conflict peacefully with over 85.) Use the evidence against Gaspard to support Briala when it is all said and done. Eventually, an option will pop up to try to reunite them. If you didn't have the locket, this fails, but if you showed them all the locket, this will work and they will reunite.

Celene successfully ruled Orlais for years while Gaspard will drive them into useless wars. That's reason enough for me to support her.

well i had that locked & i talked with both abut the locket & this option to reunite them did not pop up, maybe its cause i could not open the last door, in that area where u meet Caspard's merc who u can recruit, i finished te mission had 10/10 halas, even few over 10, but when i got there, to open the door 2/3, maybe i was missing some evidence that diggers that option

best option for stable Orlais is Gaspard with the war table mission done
