Is Josephine's romance really this ambiguous? To the point that you can present a compelling argument that she never has sex with the Inquisitor?

Yes. But also no. The ambiguity is more present through contrast. All of the other characters have a clear sex scene while J doesn't. The only other one who doesn't have one is Solas and without being to spoilery his is pretty clear there's nothing there. That being said it's pretty clear that Josephine is liberal. She hangs out with nobles and for pete's sake she is willing to romance anyone. It certainly wouldn't be beyond belief that her and the inquisitor did have sec it's just never stated or denied. So, the real failing(if you consider it one) would probably be attributed to her writer, who decided, for better or worse, not to include that scene.

Seems so. Some say they had sex and others say they didn't. Both can be correct. Glad I stopped flirting with her and went for Dorian. lol!

lol, I did the same thing after learning about it, but I went with Cassandra instead. Nothing against ambiguity, but I would rather for them to tell me outright since it's a important part of the relationship for me, personally. Don't need to even see it as many relationships in other games were fade to black and I'm ok with it.

They should skip sex scenes altogether.

I would rather see 20+ options witha. Simple dialogue + fade to black (and repeat at will- like dao in camp) than 4-6 detailed.

The larger options help you define your character more and this is a role playing game so more options = higher level of role playing.

Wait seriously?

People are mad there's not an onscreen sex scene?

Is it even implied she and the Inquisitor aren't having sex?

There's contention due to different elements of the romance, which could be construed as an exclusively asexual romance, based on the arguments from some folks. Some people expressed a dissatisfaction with other elements of the romance, like the duel (particularly for a non-warrior). Xil offered a number of alternatives to appease both sides, but her suggestions seem to continually get rebuffed. Having perused the thread and viewing both sides of the debate, it's not simply about a sex scene.

Alright that sounds more reasonable.

Eh there's five other romances. If you don't like what one has to offer...try another. And sometimes you end up not liking any. It's not that big of a deal to go romanceless for one game.

Another part of the contention is that Josie represents half of the available options for a heterosexual male character and a homosexual female character. Xil, specifically, is dissatisfied with Sera due to her views on the subject of elves and magic.

Personally I don't believe there's necessarily enough difference in the themes between Cassandra's romance and Josies to make Josephine worth trying; Cassandra's only been with one man, Josephine's never been with anyone. Cassandra has an old fashioned courtship with flowers, poetry, and candlelight, Josephine has a duel against a suitor for her hand. The romance scenes themselves are very different; Cassandra's is extremely passionate with no real ambiguity as to just what happened. Josephine's is no less intimate, but does have that ambiguity.

So for me I'm quite content to let those like Josephine's romance as is enjoy it. It's not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean those who adore it as much as they do should be denied.

But I would have still preferred a third option that was more radically different from the two traditionally romantic options of Cassandra and Josephine, just for variety's sake. I believe Xil might feel the same.

Eh you could say similar things about previous games. In Me1 FemShep had Kaidan or bust if she was straight, In ME3 you were pretty much stuck with Garrus (continuing) or Kaidan if you wanted decent content, in BG it was just Amoen, and so on. There are games were you're just not going to like your choices. Offering suggestions for LIs you'd prefer in the next game is more productive than complaining about the current ones.

Not to mention Josie does have a rather explicit alternative. Sera. If Xili doesn't like Sera's personality then that's just unfortunate and bad luck. Ask for a character type you'd prefer in the next game.

For what it's worth, I do absolutely love Cassandra's romance, and rather like Josephine as a character, just not as a romance option.

And you're not wrong. What's done is done; best we look forward.

So very true. I certainly considered the possibility romancing my right hand before even playing the game because I wasn't happy about any of the LI announcements. I then decided to give them a chance.  I pursued Josie and Cassandra before moving on to Dorian who I really liked. My problem is when people on the forum begin passing IRL judgement on people based on them simply stating why they put the brakes on Josie. Does it really make a person "shallow" or "short sighted" for saying "This character doesn't have content I want so I moved on to another that did."

I feel bad for those who put 60+ hours into the game and romance only to not be happy with the end result, I think they have a reason to at least vent a little but you are right, it's better to move on. Have another play through or go to an early save and dodge the bullet. I don't think Josie should be changed. But I don't see how it makes me a jerk who doesn't understand what real mature love is cause I switched to an npc that gave me better romance content.

The problem isn't with people being disappointed over it, the problem started when some were claiming her to be less of romance because she doesn't have a sex scene or "straight males getting screwed"

Agreed.

I think that was more directed at people saying you can't have a good romance without sex being on screen though. At least from what I read.

I for one don't plan on romancing Blackwall because I don't find him or his story appealing I wouldn't call him less of a romance though. Unless Josie actually has less content than the rest of the romances (which I doubt considering Cullen had plenty of content) her lack of a nude scene doesn't make her less of a romance.

I for one am trying not to limit myself. I've currently got a female dwarf romancing Iron Bull and am working on a female qunari to romance Sera with. I'm also considering romancing Blackwall with either my human warrior or dalish mage.

It's simply an observation that for the specific purposes of creating a straight male Inquisitor, the two options available explore very similar themes from a story standpoint.

I guess they got tired of the betty and veronica comparisons?

It's not a big deal. But if it is truly vital for you to see Josie in that light. Google is your friend.

I suppose they did. I just hope that in the next game we get two Veronicas instead of two Bettys.

It's all a matter of taste.

I like both Cassandra and Josephines romances, though I believe Josephine's has better pacing and romance scenes.

On the flip side I think the male options for a male Inquisitor are absolutely horrendous. Dorian is overly flamboyant and they were far too heavy handed with his sexuality-related personal quest, and Iron Bull's revolves around the Inquisitor submitting to him in full BDSM fashion.

Complaining about those elements won't change them, all we can do is live with what we've got and hope that we like the next games more

Because if it isn't gender or sexual orientation people complain about. Its the romance and lack of sex sences.

I think think a large part of it is that people had certain expectations. Josephine is Antivan and she's bisexual. Pattern recognition lead to people making certain presumptions. Were those presumptions well founded or proper? No, obviously, but they happened. And people often get worked up when things don't meet expectations.

I'll admit that I made a glib remark in expectation of Josephine's sexuality once or twice, joking that there's no such thing as an Antivan virgin. I was wrong, and the joke was crass. But, you know, pattern recognition.

If nothing else I think that we're going to be on our toes for the next game. Enough patterns got broken this time around that safe assumptions are out the window, I think.
