For those of you saying that you prefer Josie's romance because of the asexuality, you may want to find a different line of argument. While there's no sex in her romance there's literally nothing to indicate she's asexual and more than a few things to indicate she is very much interested in having sex and just hasn't done it yet.

The only one bringing up her being asexual is a person who doesn't like the current situation. The only reasons I've ever brought it up is when saying asexuals aren't the only people who benefit from not having a sex scene.

And Kallen, Xil has repeatedly expressed the idea of a player activated sex scene. That seems to be an option that would give all interested parties what they want. We call it compromise.

Her being ambiguous on the level of physically intimacy is the compromise, since those who want to think they have sex for whatever reason get the relationship with her they want and those who want to think they don't have sex for whatever reason get what the relationship with her they want.

The characters would have to have dialogue with the choice selected, which means determining why they do or do not want to have sex.

Not at all. Say that you want to have a quiet evening in or something, and use that message box thing to say that it'll imply that you won't be having sex.

Charcoal said that if Josephine gets the option to have sex shown, then the other LIs should get the option to not have sex yet continue the relationship. You then chimed in and replied that it should only be for those characters who are interested in an asexual relationship. I then pointed out how just because someone doesn't want to have sex with someone they've known only a few months doesn't mean they are asexual, to which you replied that one shouldn't choose them then.

I don't think that's how it went, but if avoiding anything to do with sex is such a high priority, then I'm fine with you asking for sex-optional scenes for other companions. More fine than what they did with Josephine, at any rate.

There is nothing to insinuate that Josephine doesn't have sex with you. If not seeing their naked bodies against each other means that to the person they don't have sex, then that's on the person not the developers.

That's not the point. What matters is that we lost a majorly emotionally and narratively important scene to this experiment.

Kallen I believe I understand what perspective you're viewing this from; would it not be acceptable in regards to a dialogue choice about a sex scene involving Josephine if the player could express that they either want to have sex, don't ever want to have sex, or are simply waiting for marriage? (Perhaps not so bluntly of course)

Only the first option would engage in a scene, and potentially cause future references to the scene ever having occurred.

That only covers three of the literally infinite reasons one could imagine their relationship being like currently, so no.

The precise reasoning would not have to be explicitly stated, to paraphrase; saying that you do not want to have sex immediately, the Inquisitor could simply remark they would prefer to take the relationship slowly. The reasoning the player has could be infinite indeed and the game can accommodate that with ambiguity in the answers spoken by the Inquisitor.

The actual reasoning would be left for the player to ultimately decide, but the game would accommodate nearly any view on the matter as is the case to varying degrees in other parts of the game.

Edit: As for the three admittedly limited options I stated above, they were merely for proof of concept, not to be taken as the literal options that would be presented in the dialogue. The dialogue would have to support player choice through its inherent ambiguity (this was my gist)

All this is really because of the the truly dark Dragon Age cutscene that didn't make the final cut: A fade to black and then Josphie dumping the Inquisitor the next morning because he/she was horrible in the sack.

I'm early in the game and planning to romance Jo, and I'm perfectly OK with there not being a sex scene.  And I'm not prudish or asexual or anything like that, I actually quite like nudity in video games... why not, it's fun.  But I can understand that some people would like to complete a romance with a female character without having to see any digital butts, so I'm glad Bioware included an option like that.  If you want to see butts, do another playthrough and romance Cass or Sera.  I know I will.  ;)

I'm more interested to know if the romance with Jo is as developed and detailed as with other characters, especially since she is an advisor.  I imagine that there will be opportunities to sneak in some romance dialogue while out doing missions with companions, but you can't get that with Jo or Cullen.

This thread is going the way of PC Community Concerns. 130 pages and no resolution insight. Bring back modding and let whoever have the relationship they want.

You don't like it, don't install. Supposed to be 18+ as far as I knew, tho lot seems to be less than that

I think with all the sex jokes and raunchiness (I don't mean nudity), it doesn't hurt to have something like Jo's romance have more of a "Disney" feel (to use someone else's description). Because I think they've overdone things the other way.

That's not to say I don't like everything.. I just think there needs to be balance.

omg people, how the hell did this turn into something about asexuality.. you know what, I don't care, and don't want to know... (I'm sure Varric would say something like "Its the internet what do you expect, reason and understanding? Just surprised kittens weren't involved somehow")

Did you know your parents had sex? Do you need to see them have sex to know they did it? If you do... well... can't and won't help you there. The same with here. I'm pretty sure they are screwing, end of the world, big nasty monster that wants to become god. Yea they had sex, and probably a lot of it. I mean did you know a lot of people where having sex in London, even with all the bombing air raids going on? Same deal here.

You can tell by the end of the scene, because they are now in an official relationship.
