DAO can be completed in 35 minutes by speedrunners and I have never seen anyone complain that the dev lied about how long it takes to finish it...
Skipping every conversation and so on, means skipping the story. Doesn't count.

He also said DA2 would make us have to think like a general if we wanted to get through the combat. Wasn't exactly true since button-mashing worked even better.
the funny part is it's not a direct quote. sure the article say's laidlaw said that, but they didn't "quote" him on it.
In any case 50 hours was alway's going to be PR spin based on thing's such as never quick traveling and other such procedural thing's based on their projections.
like when a tradie tell's you he'll be round to fix busted water heater at "1100" what he's really saying is ring your boss and tell him you need the entire day off, while you wait for me.
in video games X hours to complete means: seriously! buy our game, it's cool.

Ssssssh, don't talk about DAO like that. Its the holy grail.
Where are people getting this act stuff? How do you know you're at act 3.
Whilst there's no "official" act breakdown, I personally believe that getting to Haven is the prologue, the attack on Haven ends act 1, the Fade sequence/Winter ball ends act 2, and the end of the game ends act 3.
Helps me keep track of things in my mind.

I'm at 75+ but then I'm doing all the content I can so that includes side quests tracking down resources, closing rifts, companion dialogue/quests etc. I'm at "What Pride has Wrought" which i think is getting close to end game. I have enough power (and then a little to spare, but I want to do as much as I can this first run. Subsequent runs are for seeing stuff I didn't before (like siding Templars etc) that I didn't do the first time.
Main story by itself will probably take at least 30 hours for me given my pace on first-time playthroughs.
50 might be an exaggeration but not untrue for many players. I'd be more 'outraged' if he went beyond that.
I can definitely complete the main story by itself on DAO in less than 20-30 hours. Still a 'minimum 50+ hour game' tho.
I have done a bit of side content but hardly a great deal and I'm at 40 hours leaving Redcliffe Castle.
By all means discuss length, but I do find the thread title to be unnecessarily rude.
Some people will speed-run Skyrim in under an hour that doesn't mean it is typical.
See, a long time ago, I found a website called speedrundemos (I think it still exists? ) That's not the point, though - this is:
Did you know that you can finish the first Fallout game in under 20 minutes or 30 minutes? Did you know that you actually can finish BG2 in about 2½-3½ hours time? And so on, and so forth. The point is this: Your mileage may wary when it comes to completing main quests. Mike Laidlaw might not have been lying, since he, of course, told us how long time the devs. at Bioware used to finish the main quest.
Maybe, just maybe if you just finish the main story quests you can beat the game in maybe 10-15 or 15-20 hours. However, my point still stands: people's mileage may wary since people have different ways of playing. Me, I like to complete everything; I really dread and fear playing DAI since I know I possibly can't finish every quests in the game - in one playthrough.

So question, does length equate quality?
So question, does length equate quality?
I felt the game was quite lengthy and enjoyed it very much.
That's good, but that also doesn't really answer the question.
Does the game length actually mark the quality of the game? And if we were to go a step further, how much does length really matter in an RPG video game?
Funny how people are trying to defend the statement with their "own experiences"(without even noticing that we are talking just about the mainstory and not how long their whole playthrough inlcuding sidequests, was). No matter how you play, the mainquest in nowhere near the 50 hours Bioware claimed. I needed about 25 hours for it on nightmare! and didn't rush throught it (talked to most of the companions, tried to loot most of the stuff etc.). If you count out the sidequests you need to unlock further mainquests, the main story is about 15 hours long.

If thats the case then Laidlaw should be cut some slack on this.
Honestly, this would all be solved by doubling the power requirement of the last two missions from 20 and 40 to 40 and 80.
Bam! "Core story" now needs 70+ hour investment, and makes the ludicrously over-populated side-content meaningful.

After watching what I once thought was a lengthy game that was Baldurs Gate 2 completed in under 25 minutes on youtube, lol, doesn't matter what the developers do. There are always going to be those who just fly through Cut scenes, fly through NPC voiceovers and bum rush the main quest then come to cry about it on the boards.

You completely missed the point. No one needs to do a speedrun to complete the game in 20-30 hours. It's the average time if you only do the mainstory.(less of you count out the fetch quests you need to do to gain the power you need) How can anybody say the claimed 50 hours are somehow realistic? I didn't count it, but I think there are only 7 or 8 mainquests and they are all pretty short and linearly (not comparable to some of the Origins quests with 4 different levels of dungeons). So to reach the 50 hours every mainquest would have to be 6-7 hours long. The only way anybody needs 6-7 hours average to complete a main quest is if he/she goes afk for 4-5 hours during it.

Here we go again, this isn't about speedrun (which nobody done with this game yet) but a normal playthrough...
