I think one of the devs said recently that they reworked that whole quest, so it might no longer look like it did way back in the Alpha build days.

Damn that was such a badass mission I wanted to try to save both. There goes actions speak louder then words that the dev said like 10 times.

Basically anything that was in the early videos/demos aren't in there now.  Like we can't take over more then 3 forts and convert them to whatever we want, its now set and we have no control over it either.

Damn, seriously? Isn't that pretty much what's referred to as a bait and switch?

Further testing may of shown that it doesn't exactly work, maybe it was bugged all to hell, or ended up making no sense to the storyline.  We probably won't ever know

Yeah you're probably right. I really shouldn't have been surprised though. This happens all of the time with games.

Or maybe they took the features so they could sell them as dlc.

Well they said you could capture keeps and choose what they would specialize on. Even tho you cant choose, each Keep still has a specific look/mission, and i think there are 3 capturable keeps, one for each advisors trade. I only captured 2 so far, but in 1 its clear that Leliana's agents operate in there (as well as a few war table missions that fits into Secrets that happens around that keep), and in the other i captured the guy in charge in there is Cullen's Knight-Captain, which means is a soldier keep (also Force kind of missions for it in the war table).

Highly doubt that. There would be riots.

I bet there were a lot of things they were planning that couldnt be put in. You have to make decisions on what to cut and keep

That is absolutely not equivalent to discussing something and scrapping the concept. They made an actual mission in the game. It was there.

It was the da version of that virmire trailer.

True, but what if after they added more stuff they found out that they needed to cut something.  And after discussing it they decided to cut the timer quest, especially after there were quite a few threads complaining about wanting to take their time and not have to rush a decision

That was shown last year before they extended development.

Why would they have to cut? They have to cut when there's content to be made, not after it's already made. It was simply a way for them to pretend that inquisition was full of huge, world impacting decisions rather than the reality, which is that the decision is promptly moved to a trophy conversation piece and ignored in the game world.

Pretty sure that's false...isn't pax after e3? And besides, they knew long before e3 that the game would be delayed. They didn't have to make more content specifically for that quest anyway.

Does anyone know if the Red Lyrium Golem actually appears or did they take that out as well? I would really like to fight that thing

Well. That's disappointing. I've been expecting this whole time to have that quest chain waiting for me in Crestwood. Instead it just doesn't exist?

Also, I feel like the game still has never looked better than it did in that first PAX demo. A lot's changed since then...

Yes it appears. I've fought them several times in multiplayer and a few times during Single player missions against Red Templars.

That's nothing new, often times when games are made things get cut and stuff you saw in development from 1 - 2 years ago will be completely missing. It's just how making a game works, sometimes stuff gets cut for reasons we will likely never know about.

It still is a lot of time. Maybe it was in before they did the cuts back in August. who knows. Just enjoy the game you have

The game was still in alpha when they showed that mission, and alpha content should NEVER be considered representative of the final product, because it can change radically over the course of development. I can think of two great examples of games that completely changed direction from alpha to finished product. TES: Arena started out with gladiatorial combat as the primary focus, hence the name "Arena", by the time the game was finished the gladiator combat had been completely scrapped. Halo: Combat Evolved started life as an RTS, not only did the game end up switching focus, it completely swapped genres.

To accuse the developers of lying or performing a bait and switch because something you saw in alpha didn't make it into the final game is completely unreasonable.
