Dragon Age: Inquisition's first week sales.

Not sure what to think here. It's not bad, but it's not good either, given EA's high standards for sales. And DA:I seems like it had a pretty big budget behind it, with a lot of marketing. I'm not an expert in this stuff, but if DA:I doesn't break 3 million by the end of 2014, I'm gonna be worried about the future of this series.

VGchartz doesn't count digital sales
VG Chartz also tends to make up numbers.
Honestly, sales don't matter.

Tomb Raider was a failure when it came out technically, despite the fact it made over 3.4 million in a month, Square Enix didn't make their money back.
They are making a new Tomb Raider still though.
Sales and sale figures, if companies like EA are smart, will never hit the 1 billion mark like Call of Duty or GTA, which are anomalies in the gaming market. RPG's especially won't likely hit it.
Hell, the best selling RPG of all time is still Pokemon as a Franchise, roughly 30 million for the first generation, and still pulling in over 15 million in sales with each generation. As much as I love Dragon Age, no BioWare game is ever going to hit those numbers realistically. Even Elder Scrolls has only recently cracked 30 million sales as a franchise.
I think EA and BioWare realize that too. Check out how low key the marketing campaign was this time, which eats up a lot of the budget for most games.
My guess, Dragon Age is going to recoup sales and losses through multiplayer purchases over time, and it will lead to the series continuing because it is a successful franchise with more than just games out there. That is why the sales don't matter.

I am fairly confident Inquisition will hit 3 million by next year

VGchart don't even count all retail sales. They get a sample size and then estimate. No joke!

Actually, they did say that. The game cost roughly 10 million to make and market, Square was hoping for 6 million in the first month. They hit that 6 million mark earlier this year.
So it is still technically a loss. But they are again, making a sequel.
My point is that AAA game "not selling" jepordizing future games is not exactly true anymore.

It's not that they make up numbers, it's that they don't get enough numbers directly from enough retailers in order to correctly extrapolate sales numbers. Organisations like NPD get direct numbers from 90%+ of retailers, making their extrapolated sales numbers more accurate and trustworthy. VGChartz sales numbers get more accurate as time goes on, as publishers and retailers don't bother hiding sales numbers of games anymore after a certain amount of time has passed.
TL;DR
Sale numbers of older games on VGChartz = Accurate
Sales numbers of newer games on VGChartz = Dubious

So let me get this straight 1.1 million copies in a week is what exactly?
Origins sold 3.2 million copies in 97 day's.
DA2 which apparently still turned a profit sold 2 million in 150 day's.
if we apply average declining sales rate's on this number: drop of 37% in week 2 a slight increase in week 3 for drop of 33% of week one sales that means by week 4 DA:I will have sold 2.53 Million copies in just 21 days meaning it's on track to break even origins record.

Learn a little about games sales before going nuts 1.1 million is great numbers for 7 days and if correct mean's it's on track to be the highest selling Dragon age game.

By my math (using VGChartz, which is obviously not an authority), Dragon Age: Origins (which also came out in mid-November) sold 435,000 copies its first week. Dragon Age II, in a far less competitive market, sold 540,000.
How is 1.1 million disappointing exactly? Especially when it was up against the PS4/Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto V as well as Far Cry 4.

VGchartz has an awful reputation as a trustyworth site for checking sales and it doesn´t count digital sales so I don´t trust anything that comes from it.

Apologies for not linking it, I'm not sure how to do it with an iPhone. But according to VGchartz, DA:I has sold 560k in the US. I went on to each platform to add up the sales, and it looks like globally it sold 1.1 million.
Not sure what to think here. It's not bad, but it's not good either, given EA's high standards for sales. And DA:I seems like it had a pretty big budget behind it, with a lot of marketing. I'm not an expert in this stuff, but if DA:I doesn't break 3 million by the end of 2014, I'm gonna be worried about the future of this series.
The series died the second DA:2 was released tbh. Probably the best thing all round if Bioware can start a fresh on a new franchize as they clearly don't want to be making traditional RPG's any more.

You people need to stop. The pc version was not a port, both console and pc were developed alongside each other. Quit complaining about an issue that simply isn't there.

Downright depressing that a game like this doesn't sell any more copies. What the hell is wrong with people?
Its have been like this for a long time. With games like skyrim being the exception rpg's in general are a bit of a niche market, they will never sell as much or as rapidly as certain genres such as shooters.

You shouldn't find it depressing. Just enjoy the game and let others enjoy whatever it is that they enjoy. As long as they keep making these games it's pretty obvious they are doing just fine. People complain about other people not liking things that they like themselves, but as long as the thing that you enjoy exists why bother?

I really wish this game went bad, but no. Everything that is pure garbage people buy, just look at pop music...
So Inquisition is going to be a heavy success and the Dragon Age series is doomed forever. There is no problem in this being the last game of the series, the problem is watching as they strike the final blow on my hopes with a new game even worse...
