I get a little tired with the idea of having a different character every game, but I can see why they'd do it - just for companions alone.

I know romances are optional content, but the people who partake in them tend to be some of their most passionate fans. So if DA4 had the Inquisitor as the main character again, since there's 8 characters you could have romanced, all most of those players will be like, "so and so would never have left me! They need to still be around!" *cough*

So either we'd have to have to have almost the exact same party, or explanations as to why everyone left.

And why my badass Inquisitor is suddenly only back to using 2 spells.

I do think, from this point on, they will continue having previous protagonists show up in future games. Or at least I hope so.

THAT SAID I definitely want to see my inquisitor as a cameo or have a major role or even as a companion in the next & future games though. =)

I admit that I do want a returning protagonist at least once down the road.

Dragon Age suffers from the same problem that Marvel's super heroes do in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once Marvel showed that they were all in the same continuity, making more and more movies with different heroes becomes difficult because they not only have to fit the shared universe, but they must also be contained within their own movies. The longer this goes on, the less logical it becomes, because the cast of all-powerful super protagonists grows and expands, but they rarely (if ever) interact with one another outside one-off scenarios or special situations (The Avengers, in this case). I mean, where is Tony Stark during the second Captain America movie? It seems silly for not a single other member of the Avengers to come and help Rogers while HYDRA and the Winter Soldier are hunting him.

Likewise, since DA has a new protagonist for every game, it's going to become a bit silly when (inevitably) the world is on the brink of destruction (again), and only the [insert fancy title here] can stop it (again). Now granted, the DA protagonists have never teamed up like the Avengers, but they are all major lore figures (and all alive so far, unless you didn't do the Dark Ritual with the Warden) who all live in roughly the same area. I know that the Warden in DAI is off on a quest to stop the calling (which makes sense, given that he is a Warden), but there is no reason whatsoever for Hawke to never reappear (and then re-disappear, as per the epilogue). It's all really convenient for all of the world-famous heroes who saved the world multiple times to all be unavailable when the world is about to end.

The problem with doing that though is that it'll annoy someone, When Hawke showed up in my game he acted the opposite of how he did in DA2 so it can be a bit jarring to say the least. If we need a new protagonist I'd prefer it if we never saw the old ones again.

It's a good thing we're going up northern Thedas ( Tevinter, Antiva, Anderfels, Par Vollen, etc ) Everything that happen in the last three games ( The Blight, Mage rebellion, the Breach,) happened down South of Thedas. The ONLY people that I can think of that would have legit reason for being up north is Fenris,Dorian, and Zevran.

How do you know the games are going north?

I'd really like to stick with the inquisitor for at least one more game. I see no "charm" in arbitrarily making new protagonists.

My Hawke did turn out a bit different .... but I'm fine with the difference. Seeing returning protagonist is a big thing for me I guess.

Also, there is one solution to your problem - which is that you get to control your previous protagonists' dialogue choices. Or they can give you 3 main characters for the next game - Warden, Hawke, and the Inquisitor. =)

I don't see why we can't use our Inquisitor in the next DA. Everyone made it clear that we can change the all world, we are probably one of the most important and powerfull person in Thedas, so if the games IS about Thedas... it makes perfect sense to keep using the Inquisitor

I would prefer lots of DLC and expansions with inquisition and then a new protagonist for a new game.

and well when we saw Hawke he acted the opposite of how I played him.

I keep hearing that, but my Hawke was sarcastic/humorous like she was in DA2. I never played as a blood mage, so her pathos against them was in character as well for me.

No I like that they move on and it was really enjoyable seeing the references made to the Warden and seeing Hawke. I do wish they could find a way to bring the Warden back with his/her romance however briefly in person.

But the model has suited DA fine, I like the new protagonists as long they don't dispense with old characters and protagonists and play roles in future games/DLC. I do want there to be a lengthy DLC similar to awakening if not longer in terms of length I'd happily be willing to pay over the odds for a 10-20 hours expansion, I really invested into the world of DA especially the latest one.

I'd love to continue playing as the Inquisitor in future installments. But even if that weren't to happen I honestly don't think I could go back to playing a character without also having a massive organisation to run. Managing and taking advantage of the Inquisition was a big highlight for me. I hope we see more of it in the future.

While a small part of me would like to be the Inquisitor for more I'm in large part more eager to see what other role that I might get to experience in future DA titles. Took a little while to get used to always getting a new role but now it's just something that I feel is just right with Dragon Age

My Hawke was a blood mage so his anger was strange and he had a sarcastic personality previously but now he seemed rather direct. Perhaps it was a bug.

I liked my Inquisitor, but nah. I like the new protagonist every game formula.

An expansion, however, I could get behind.

I lIke the direction the games have been going- its rare to find games (in my opinion) where you really felt like your decisions affected the world. I enjoyed this game the most in terms of gameplay. It is kinda hard to have an amazing storyline when there is so much to do. I wonder what type of ideas they have fir the next game.

I'd have rather played Inquisition as Hawke. He has a much better voice and delivery than the English accent male, and it was kind of painful seeing him strut around in his awesome Champion warrior armour, which was aesthetically superior to anything available to my character in the game.

I remember one of his chat-up lines with Isabela. Something like 'i bet you've got a heart of gold - now all we need to do is dig it out and sell it'.  The Inquisitor wooed Ruffles with gems such as 'i enjoy the company of a charming woman'.

Hawke just had more character for me. He should have been the Inquisitor.

I'd rather not have another Shepard situation honestly, so the fact that each game in the Dragon Age series features a new protagonist works rather well in my eyes. Though I would not be adverse to another Awakening like expansion so we could see more of the Inquisition in something that won't take a few hours to complete like the other DLC probably will.

I agree Hawke could have been intended to be used as the inquisitor. Cassandra even says at one point in DA:I

Spoiler

And to be honest I think I would have preferred a sarcastic Hawke inquisitor to this one that can't crack a smile to save her life... When you think about it how does it make any sense at all for a Qunari or Elf to be the "Herald of Andraste." But I think Bioware caught a lot of heat with DA2 and felt they had to scrap that idea and give us more customization with race and such.

That being said- at the end of this very large game with, as a few others above me mentioned, epic story, I don't think the inquisitor could top anything she does after this and will have to be retired. If they could make another character like Hawke, and said character didn't already have 100+ hours of content devoted to them- then some character continuity would be fine from game to game. Especially since the epilogue a never seem to adequately explain what the heck happens to our characters later...

I wouldn't mind being my Inquisitor again - and with what happened (I just finished the game a little while ago)...I think there may be...cause...for the Inquisitor to show up again in some capacity. Blackwall better be with her, though, or I will pelt the devs with gummi bears until they submit to the fruity, chewy deliciousness and add him in.

But seriously, I would definitely love some story DLC asap or a really big expansion. I know people have said that they're aiming for more of those one-shot story DLCs, but hey, if the game ends up selling really well, maybe they'll be motivated to do something big. Anyhow, aside from throwing gummi bears at the devs, I'm also willing to throw my money at them if that works better. Just let me know when the DLC is ready - my wallet is prepared for it!

Heh - I'd like to see this, actually. Please take that suggestion and run with it, BW - because there are things that I really need to know now. Geez, you devs are such teases! *points at the scene after the credits*
