But if some new uber threat attacks the Inquisition, what will the explanation for them not getting immediately killed by the essentially godlike Inquisitor ? It'd be like if Corypheus attacked Denerim with a Queen/King/Chancellor/Alienage Bann warden-commander there, he'd have died right then

It doesn't have to take place immediately after the end of DAI. Set it a century (or even just a few decades) after DAI, when the Inquisitor is either dead or old.

That *could* be a solution for the "too many uber previous PCs around" problem I guess

I disagree. The world is full of extraordinary people.

Besides, we're talking about 31 companions, 4 protagonists counting Awakening and MotA. Granted, I'm not sure what the total population of Thedas is, but that's still a rather insignificant portion of the population.

I would say you're being optimistic about the world being full of extraordinary people.

If they keep introducing new casts and protagonists every single game, it makes one wonder why we actually need this big heroes if its so easy to save the world that any random figure who picks up a sword or can fling spells can do it. Hell, of the 3 protagonists, only Hawke really has a name. I mean, the Warden and Inquisitor have names as well, but nobody every refers to them by either their surname or given name (except for the 1 or 2 times the Inquisitor is called Adaan or Trevelyan).

I don't feel like I'm done with the Inquisitor. I'm done with my warden, and after DAI I am very much done with Hawke. But I still feel like I've got things to explore with my quizzy.
I blame Solas.

I'll be furious if they just 'go missing' in the next game. I have had enough of that.

The armies were for dealing with the darkspawn while you dealt with the Archdemon technically, you *can* ask for their aid in defeating it and use ballistae but you don't *have* to so it's perfectly possible that the AD was defeated by just you and a few followers. Historically there's another AD who was defeated in single combat by a warden so it's not that far fetched that our PC warden could do it too.

Considering he went for the divine as his sacrifice at Haven, if he had picked Denerim instead, wouldn't he have picked the royalty as the sacrifice ? And speaking of that, is there a reason he specifically picked Haven ? Might have been to attack the andrastian faith I guess but he coulda done that after becoming a god

Yeah, but I'm speaking of the canon is all. :P

And I believe he chose Haven because of all the Lyrium that was within the temple. The fact that the conclave was there made it even better.

Ya but wouldn't it have been a better message if he had become a god beforehand and then attacked the chantry gathering so that all the grand clerics could see masses of faithful get killed and the maker not doing crap to help them ? It'd have been despair galore and stuff. As opposed to just blowing them all up in one go and staying secret to everyone. That woulda been my plan if I had that goal.

He needed to tear the Fade open first, though, before becoming a God at all. He probably saw the Conclave and thought, "ah, what a grand time to ascend! I'll become a God here while simultaneously proving to the Maker's followers that He's a fake". It also causes major disarray and fear amongst... pretty much everyone, and ruins mage-templar co-operation completely. You can see that in Haven with both sides blaming the other for what happened, and with even Leliana having a crisis of faith.

His plan was perfect. It's only because of the Inquisitor that it went wrong.

Besides, why wouldn't he have done it at the Conclave? It makes no sense for there to be a monumental meeting of figureheads where all of the highest-ranking Chantry members would be... and for him to just let it happen with no plan to contest it. Killing off Chantry gatherings proves nothing, and it would just convince people you're a weird but stoppable nutcase.

Murdering the Divine herself at a historical peace talk makes much more sense than picking off the members of random and unimportant Chantries.

But no one knows he murdered the divine, before he showed himself by attacking you personally as far as everyone knew she just died in a mysterious magic explosion. Also killing loads of rebel mages isn't that smart, next to some of the modern tevinters they're the most likely to join his side, at least some number of them

I don't know about you folks, but I'd be completely up for throwing my money at not one, but two expansions even :D

I hope every DA has a different plot and PC, all of which ties into the greater mosiac made by our other PC's and their exploits and legends.

I am so aware that I probably won't play as the Inquisitor in the next instalment that I can't even get attached to the notion of wanting to play as them again.

I’d very much like a collage game in which I could play previous characters—at least in part, a storyline per, perhaps, tied into the main story. Like in this game I would have been quite happy to play Hawke for a little while. In the next game, could play some of the Warden’s new quest, a bit of Hawke, some Inquisitor stuff for politics and then New Character stuff.

There’s a flipside to ‘finishing’ storylines in one game—if you let the player control the character again, you have much more freedom in fudging over previous events. If the character is static, the previous endings are too.

Way to early to speculate anything atm they just did win GOTY Award. But I hope they make a full expansion with good stuff coming and better stronghold options, one thing did bug me i wished they have an options to move strong holds or build one so you can move from skyhold that would be cool indeed, like build or repair old castle forts in game.

I also want to keep my Inquisitor. I like him and i think he's in a position to do more for Thedas in the long run once another big bad comes along. I would hate to see him suddenly "vanished" from the story after taking such an important role. How many heroes do we need in this world anyway?? And who will deal with Solas, if we have to et al. There is just too many loose ends to go the whole "He gone, here's a new guy to do important stuff with." I don't mind having new companions, romances et al but I sort of want to "settle down" with my Inquisitor.

It doesn't have to take place immediately after the end of DAI. Set it a century (or even just a few decades) after DAI, when the Inquisitor is either dead or old.

Only thing is they'd have to work out the timeline. I think at the time of the Inquisition, you're about half way through the Dragon Age already. It'd be kinda awk to suddenly have "Nug Age: Origins", as I've seen bandied around jokingly.

Otherwise, in reply to the topic, I do hope to see my Inquisitor again! I'd be eager to learn more about my current companions (I don't really feel like I need a whole new set every game, though 1-3 new faces would be cool). The ending of Inquisition felt a lot like the ending of Mass Effect 2 to me; it wrapped up the current difficulties, but didn't say too much on the endgame of it all (elven pantheon? The nightmare? SOMEONE ELSE??? :P)

I hope the next game is still about the Inquistor, the ending of this game didn't really make it feel like it was "finished" and there was a lot more story still there. As much as I'd love to play someone from Tevinter, it'd be interesting for now at least to expand on the Inquistion and not just drop it

I'm very much hoping that we get to stay as the Inquisitor in future instalments, I think this was the original plan with Hawke as it's kind of obvious that he was intended to be the Inquisitor in the first place but then the criticism of DA2 hit that on the head. I just simply prefer staying as one character throughout a game series, for me it allows for greater emotional depth and an interesting character arc. Thoughts?

I would like to keep playing the Quizzy for a bit longer only because I never got a chance to really know the character. It was all about the Inquisition and the Quizzy was just.... there.  If BW has nothing else to do with the Quizzy then they should let him go but idk. I play the games for the characters and I'm not looking forward to creating a brand new character who may end up having the same depth as the Quizzy, which is not much. I'd rather dig deeper with this character for a bit.

Dear Lord no. No. He's too much of a goodie-two-shoes for my tastes, bound to a spefic -largely chantry-affilated institution- and uhm...well, I could do with a number of the current companions not reappearing, ever.

Also, lots of threads with this topic lately.

Nope and i hope bioware (but i doubt it) will come back to their roots and we will get protagonist more adventure type like in dao or bg as that gives most freedom in customizing pc.Plus change dialogue wheel on old good dialogue system that we know what our character will say and i wouldn't mind silent protagonist or at least such i will be in full control.

I am not

It prevents Bioware from going down the ME path wich ended in "art".....because apparently Thai is how a saga needs to end these days

I'm in the pro-Inquisitor for DA4 wagon, but I also like new protags too... And I just feel like, with that whole Elven Gods business, Inquisitor's story isn't over yet, not to mention the "reports of Fade Rifts in the north" or whatever... though I suppose for my Dorianmancer Inquisitor the latter makes good post-game headcanon fodder when they inevitably pull the "lol the inquisitor went missing, we don't know where but it MUST be connected to the Warden and Hawke and Sandal and The Black City!" nonsense.

Since they seem to switch the story telling approach up each game (DAO's ragtag bunch of misfits wandering and saving the world, DA2's generally lower stakes Urban Fantasy-like setting, DAO's more militaristic approach being in a position of power the whole game), I'd like the see them switch the formula up a little bit more, and go for something like Fire Emblem 10 (or the A Song of Ice and Fire books for a more immediate comparison) and try multiple POV protagonists, one of which being the Inquisitor. I thought that would do this in DAI when the Hawke screens were revealed, but I should have known better - it would be way too expensive for BW to pull off well without major compromises.

And re: the Elven Gods arc, I already know I'd be majorly peeved if we have to witness the realization of that arc without Quizzy, or even the Warden. It was already a bit of a dampener on the impact of the scene to have the realization of

Spoiler
. I guess the moral of the story for me is that the "new protagonist every game" is holding back a team of great writers from making the powerful storylines they are capable of. The Morrigan-Flemeth thing was possibly the most invested and enthralled I've been for any scene in a DA game, and a lot of it has to do with the fact that I've had time to give a **** about Morrigan and her fate. It took me like, 100 hours and 2/3 playthroughs to give a crap about my Inquisitor, and I'm not quite there yet with Sera, Vivienne, Blackwall, Solas, Bull, basically everyone but the wonderfully written and infectious Dorian , and I'd care a hell of a lot more about even him if we had more time to develop his character.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but if we're really gonna skip to a next protagonist I think Inquisition needs a couple of story-centric DLCs to feel finished. Otherwise jumping to a new protagonist will feel abrupt. I'd particularly like to see how the outcome of you/Morrigan drinking from the well will be handled, that's one part of the story they cannot skip over. Most of the decisions we made felt like they had no impact and I very much wanted to see some results.
