Times like these make me miss DA:O with all of its one handed swords.
I thought I did a comparison once and it seemed even though axes had higher DPS, the swords with hilt added gained greater stat boosts than the Axe. Wasn't an extensive test, but I stuck with my sword for that reason.
I agree it's just finding these powerful swords..I'm guessing it has to be a war table reward because I have never seen them in a chest
I could be wrong, but I think the swords strength is that it is slower, but can have higher Armor penetration than axes. Will need to look into it more when I get the chance.
Caliban seems to be the best one handed sword in the game, but you have to wait for quite some time to get it. The high dragon that you have to kill to get said sword is lvl 21...
I would love to tell you how I got these schematics, but all I feel comfortable saying is that I used a tool to get them in my game.
This in other words means I cheated them, quite alike to save-scumming but without the endless hassle of RNG-dependancy.
What I can say is that these schematics, in my experience, have never dropped for me in any box, chest or quest, I did finish the game with 3 characters (thats why I decided to skip the farming) but I can say that I haven't found either of the other 2 schematics by drop.
I assume that, since the wiki's or other sites don't show them either, it has yet to be found in some player's game and I can't say for certain if there are conditions to getting them or finding them.
Also, just as a precaution, I will not respond to PM's about how I got said items nor do I try to encourage anyone of doing this.
(I did not do anything illegal btw, I just want to be sure and not lose my account over something like this.)
That is some MEGA bs then! wtf...someone on reddit said he had masterwork tevinter longsword and he said he had to have gotten it from cradle of sulevin farming runs...this is just ridiculous the 2 coolest sword designs in game are so hard to get...
I am pretty sure you can't get them on a normal run. Either HOURS of farming or using some cheat crap. Way to go Bioware on an epic loot system. ![]()

obviously it's in the game..what the heck bioware...I'd love for a dev to explain this..meanwhile daggers and greatswords are thrown at you like candy
Masterwork Tevinter Longsword is a tier 3 weapon. Although I know it does exist, no info about DPS and even the appearance is unknown for now. Location is also unknown so it must be a random drop.

It does not drop. It is in the game data but only obtainable on PC via cheat engine.
Caliban is the best one handed weapon in the game and thus the best sword [one handed]. I combined it with a masterwork tier 3 curved sword handle [better than the tevinter one] and it easily outpowers the Serpents Rage. But the real point here is there simply just isn't enough longswords in the game. What's going on Bioware? There are some glaringly bad mistakes in this game [no storage chest, no usable weapon racks, not enough decent merchants etc] it makes you wonder if anyone at Bioware actually played through the game at all. Also the art desigh team responsable for headware and shields should hang their heads in shame, for most are just poor and lazy efforts.
I remember someone from Bioware said they had learnt alot from Skyrim after the poor effort of DA 2. Well to me they don't seem to have learned anything and if they continue to not listen to the fans then I'm afraid they are going to loose alot of rpg fans.
you need a cheat engine to get all the good schematics or pay for the dlc that is coming down the line
I had Dwarven Longsword from Valeska's Watch, and I bought the Engraved Beard-Axe from the merchant in the EdL, but thanks for the reminder about Serpent's Rage! I had totally forgotten about that one. Time to hit the Hissing Wastes and finish off the tombs. (... I should probably think about finishing Sand and Ruin, too, but I'm farming Royal Sea Silk to make Viv's iconic robe, so I'm trying to postpone that one for as long as possible.)

Do you know something we don't know? I haven't heard a thing about any schematic DLC.
That said, I'd pay real money not to have to farm anymore. I can't get the cheat engine to work on my machine, so I have to do a farming loop of Valeska's Watch and Cradle of Sulevin. I don't mind the tens of thousands of gold I've gotten farming those two locations, but it does get old after a while.

You don't need to tell them that, EA knows that all too well.
OK so I just successfully farmed for the Dwarven longsword schematic.
Some notes on this torturous process:
1. I did this at level 12 in Emprise du Lion while on nightmare mode. The enemies were level 16.
2. I went to the chest right behind the waterfall facing the lake near the initial area of Emprise du Lion.
3. I had to kill the pack of red templars hanging out in front of the chest. It was tough as they were 4 levels higher on Nightmare, but I did it by kiting them to the waterfall, where they got stuck for a while as Varric whaled on them.
4. I ended up savescumming for about 90 minutes, taking care to lift any schematics I found as long as I could leave something behind in the chest.
5. The Dwarven Longsword must be a particularly rare schematic, because I saw many multiples of alternative Tier 3 schematics before the Dwarven Longsword came up.
