DID DAI Need Another Six Months/Year of Dev Time?

There are many aspects of DAI that I love, and many that I disdain. The character creation and gender bender bugs put a huge damper on what was a mostly enjoyable start to the game; had to restart a few times to fix these bugs.

-The intro was a little jarring and I think many of us would've appreciated a little more back story ala DAO.

-The removal of tactics, and general uselessness of the tac cam are huge disappointments.

-Melee rogues are pretty much broken and are a hindrance to your party much of the time.

-Countless conversation and audio bugs require reloads.

-I feel like the size of the game world has detracted from BW's ability to make a narrative-heavy game. I feel like if I didn't grind fetch quests to pad out my play time, I'd have finished the main quest (and all "cinematic" quests) in 10-15 hours.

-Non-cinematic conversations really pull you out of the experience.

-The entire game feels designed to distract and slow you down at every turn. The looting animation, the gratuitous use of fetch quests, the real time "freemium app" style "quests", lack of storage, the inefficient (IMO) mod and crafting system. These all feel like they were designed to purposely slow you down instead of just "happening" to slow you down because you're enjoying the task at hand. I feel like the playtime would've been cut in half without all the filler and inefficiencies.

What say you, BSNers? Are these the crazy ramblings of an idealistic fool?

Yeah, another month or two would make it better, but they did not patch it even now, so maybe the time was/is not the problem..

I enjoy the game, but it definitely feels really unpolished with graphical glitches, dialogue glitches, falling through the map, etc.

It's been delayed two or three times already. I don't think they were able to push it back again or the fans would be up in arms.

I don't think having more time would have been productive.

I personally think they simply made a bucketload of bad decisions, so more dev time wouldn't have really helped. What's important now (relatively speaking, anyway) is that BioWare actually come out and say why they gutted tactics, why they omitted auto-attack, they they chose the slightly MMO flavoured feel of the opening section, and so on.

They say they 'listened' to fans. But I'd like to know which fans they listened to... because right now, a lot of the core fans are complaining about an absolute tone of issues and changes. I don't believe any core group of fan feedback would've supported axing Tactics.

This will be the last BioWare game I buy at launch, too. Clearly BioWare don't seem to learn from mistakes, but then neither did I - because DAII launched in desperate need of patching too (both bugs and for features like auto-attack), and that took around a month to play as it should've done from day1.

Oh, and I agree with every point in that original post, so I'd say you were being pretty darn reasonable.

Any more time wouldn't have done much. They had plenty of it. Any problems you see there is more of a development, management, etc problem.

My attention is more on what they'll do (and not do...) through patches and DLC, into 2015 (and ideally imo 2016 but whatcanyoudo).

Haven't experienced a single one of those on PC. Some Bugs seem to be completly random or can't be triggered that easily.

What is a core fan though? If they did indeed litsenned to fans, that means it was a majority of some sort... is it "core" fans? are core fans the ones who started at Origins? or are they the ones who frequent the forums? Maybe the litsenned to the ones that who go to BIOWARE BOOTHS at cons? So Far, if i count as a core fan for being an Origin junkie, im happy with DAI

they said BF4 would have been better if it was delayed another 6 months or so, but a year on and it's still broken, more so in some regards

This game is perfect for console. I mean like come on the controls....

I think they needed another year to finish this game and play through the WHOLE game and recieve the Rewards for putting in already 130 hours into the game with 3 restarts thinking its just this char having these LOOT rewards a sham. It's a friggen SHAM! damn Loot on dragons and Deft hand Theif unlockable doors and the Star Puzzle doors.......... ITS ALL A SHAM!!! I Want Loot MY Level.

This was always going to be a poor game, its moved too far away from what made origins great. All more time would have done is move this game even further away from the original.

mhm... played with kb+m for aprox 13 hours, horrendous issues with combat positioning and general clunkiness of controls... hooked up my windows pad tonight and it's leagues better, it just clicks, you can really tell the game was designed for console then ported to PC when using a pad

Your opinion isn't fact. So I don't know why you place the phase "you" to signified the rest of us who enjoyed the game very much. You may have encounter glitches or bugs but if you are any sort of gamer you should know that bugs have existed from the beginning of gaming.

I don't understand the statement " It moved too far away from what made origins great"? Dragon Age Inquisition made huge open spaces to explore in. There are so many things that this game does excellent that picking at straws is useless.

Dragon Age Inquisition is an Awesome game. I would rate it 9.5.

I am a PC gamer. We don't use controllers when you have so much better flexibility with a KB+M. I haven't touched a Controller for 4 years but I feel like I might have to grab one and play it with that instead. So disappointing.

Sure, they can give the game another six years of dev time - as long as you're willing to pay $500 for the game.

See this was the same thing that happened to me with Arkham Origins, heard tons of bad things, glitches, bugs etc. Never came across any and loved the game. So far I'm having the same luck here and really enjoying the game.

I blame EA! Just like them to push things out too early, and then remedy it with patches later on... A bunch of paying Beta testers we have all become!

This is highly debatable. Playing on a keyboard and mouse doesn't make it more flexible than playing on a controller. It is a matter of being familiar and comfortable.

Say I drive a vehicle that has a stick. I have been using a stick all my life when driving a vehicle. Doesn't mean I can't drive an automatic. I can drive an automatic vehicle down the road but I will always be familiar with driving a stick.

Most console gamers have been playing with controllers that it's  second nature to them.

I personally think they simply made a bucketload of bad decisions, so more dev time wouldn't have really helped.

The lack of auto-attack, class locked gear, the ina biltiy to manulaly distribute attribute points and the lack of any tactics all scream of poor design decisions.

The poor opening sequence and ill conceived Ui for the PC could have been addressed with more time.

However the game still would have had several problems because they seem to have intentionally removed anything that would require thinking on the player's part.  Tactics are a prime example of this, they also seemed to think that assigning attributes might be too hard, same with class locked armor.

Heaven forbid the player might have the inelligence for themselves to decide whether or not they should sacrifice a few points in magic in order to put some in strength so thay can qualify for better armor.  Afterall, most players don't have the intelligence to balance such things themselves, so we'll auto distrbitue those attribute points so they don't have to worry about it.  They also don't have to worry about not having the best armor, they are mages, this the best armor for mages, so they know they have the best available.  Of course warriors can have better armor, but they are stronger so they can wear the better armor.  Of course, mages could wear the armor too if they wanted to put points in strength, but you aren't smart enough to figure out if wearing that armor is worth the hit you would take to your magic, so we'll decide for you.

Oh, by the way, we decided it is not.

Is it wrong to want a game to play a certain way, especially when the MAJORITY of gamers, especially PC Gamers, feel that way? If you're expecting a Medium Rare steak, dangit, you should get a Medium Rare steak.

Majority my arse. You mean Minority. But I have no time to argue with anyone in this thread. I have a dragon to kill. I will be having fun while you complain more.
