I judged him so that after Corypheous is defaeted he is actually going to join the Wardens. Although after I found out he wasn't a grey warden I refused to even speak to him.

I despised his actions, but even for the man he was he was one of the greatest warriors my Inquisitior had seen, rivaling the abilities of the Cassandra even, it would have been a waste to leave him to rot with the doom of the world knocking on our door, so I released him into my service.

Pretty sure he will be made into a Greywarden if you leave him to them. He was gonna go into the joining, and most of the Greywardens are criminals.

I definitely suspected he had some shady past. I knew he wasn't a Gray Warden because of all the signs pointing towards it but I didn't know he had sent his men out to murder someone. Because I was romancing him, I abused my power to send an imposter in his place to die and let him go free to 'atone' himself... in my bed. ![]()

He was so remorseful for his actions that he wanted to turn himself in. So I let him dedicate himself to the Inquisition instead of waste the life he had left, a worthy cause and a good way to make up for his past.

I believe in second chances, and he was definitely remorseful. I forgave him.
The romance was slightly difficult to continue with, but I did anyway.
...made quite the scene of it, too...

He's kind of like Jean Valjean--if Valjean's crime had been horriffic. I'm still not sure at all if I did the right thing in accepting him into my service as himself.
Now I wanted him to mimic the scene from Les Mis

Now I wanted him to mimic the scene from Les Mis
I spent the whole time singing "Who Am I?" in my head during his personal quest.
More I think about it, the more I think I should have sen him to the Wardens. But the Wardens really aren't what he thinks they are. There's no right answer here, is there?

I think he does have an idea of what they really are, but it's the basis that he admires the most
I wouldn't send him to the Wardens because I heard you lose him as a companion by doing so

I think you only lose him post-epilogue. I don't know though, since I've only ever kept him around.

You don't lose Blackwall if you make him an warden. And I think it's the right thing to do. Being an warden is horrible. Making Blackwall one of them gives him an fitting punishment for his actions while he still serves the greater good.

Ha. Some of his comments about the Archdemon make you go (as in, you the Player): "Dude, you don't know what you're talking about. You're not a Grey Warden." It's really not subtle at all.

My Cadash was in a romance with him and ended up forgiving him but I wish there had been some dialogue/space resources left for one or two more dialogues or cut scenes where they work on forgiveness, if that was the option your Inquisitor chose. I feel like I had to add in some headcanon padding to make the redemption feel natural but it was the path I felt my Cadash would have taken so I stuck with it. Love the character and the romance arc though and I'm quite curious what is next for him in lore.

I thought it answered the question as to why he wasn't affected by the Calling like the other Wardens. I saw that he was truly remorseful and wanted to do the right thing and turn himself in. If I had found out from someone else what had happened and he didn't show any sign of repentance, I would have left him in the dungeon to face execution. As it stood, I felt to execute a truly repentant man would be a serious waste of a life, so I got him out and judged that he will join the Wardens for real.

Pretty much this, only I wrote what turned into a giant essay in the Blackwall thread about why I forgave Rainier/Blackwall (but certainly didn't forget) and continued on with the romance. It's not easy to get past what he did, but it's possible. And there is fallout if you take Blackwall back, because let me tell you, I had Blackwall and Solas in my group last night, and Solas...kind of went off on him about what happened. It wasn't pretty, but I think it was realistic to have what Blackwall had done addressed like that. It does make me wonder what'll happen if I try sticking Blackwall and Solas together again.
They seemed to get along so well before the Revelations quest...now...not so much. It's understandable, because I can see absolutely see why others would feel the way that they do - they have that right, and it's not like they need to forgive him just because he's the Quizzy's LI. I should probably try it out with the others - maybe they'll have some shots of their own to take (might as well let all the companions vent and get it out of their systems...). That being said, I think it's ultimately rewarding and redemptive if you see things through.
