I released him into service for the Inquisition.  My inquisitor was super idealistic and felt that he needed to redeem himself as the man he is.  She did have to deal with a bit of fallout from that decision, it seems.

The Wardens were in such a weakened state at the time, she would have been too unsure to set him on that course.

I had a feeling he was never a warden. There was just too much evidence, of course now who he was and his crimes where a big surprise but I forgave him. Yes he did something bad, but he tried to make up for his crime and his intentions where good.

I spent the whole time singing "Who Am I?" in my head during his personal quest.

He should legally change his name to Jean Valjean :P

I would if he would get the Loghain treatment if one of our companions pretty much demanded his execution.

He seemed really regretful and upset over his actions. I felt he could redeem himself by working for the Inquisition. He had to deal with his past long enough that he suffered from it. I gave him a second chance because he made a mistake that he really did feel remorse over. I liked his reason for

as well because it was sort of honoring the real man in a way. It made the romance very interesting and my party banter had been great due to his revelation

Seriously, I was very upset. In Dragon Age 2 I romanced Anders and I really wanted to kick his ass for what he did, but I let him live.

And now, in DA;I, the guy I choose to romance is a murderer and a lier. So I decided to let him live too, for what he has become (a good man, he saved his soldier from being executed, he is helping the Inquisition), but I didn't put another guy in jail, I used Josephine's relations.

My only regret is to not have a scene with Varric, driking alcohol, and both complaining about all the shi* happening, including Blackwall's lie!

:D

I wasn't expecting it in truth but I was asking myself "Why isn't this guy hearing the Calling too?" as I was playing. For what it is worth, he seems genuinely transformed from whatever man he once was. I don't outright pardon him; I still leave him to the Wardens at the end of the day but I think that's okay. It's a risk. The Joining could kill him, yes. But he seems like someone who would be willing to pay that possible price. If he survives? Well, they've got a good man on their hand who could do them a lot of good.

I did this quest a few hours ago. Talk about a 'jaw hitting the floor' moment......I honestly never saw that coming. Then again, my observation skills have been lacking lately, so Tis hardly a shock that it caught me off guard.

Was fairly clear early on that he was hidding something and that he was no true warden so wasn't surprised personally when it was all revealed. My Inquisitor was rather angry and felt a bit lied to but Blackwall did join the Inquisition to make a better world and did seem to regret his weak actions enough so a second chance at redemption was given. Forgive but not at all forgetting..

That was a big "ah-ha!" moment for me because I noticed somethings were off with him, but didn't put everything together until he confessed.

I was suspicious early on, when he said he was in Ferelden during the blight. If that was true then it makes no sense for him not to seek the warden and Alistair out. By the end of the game their survival was hardly a secret anymore. So I wasn't surprised by the twist, but I didn't expect the truth to be so horrible. I sent him to the wardens, it feels like the best solution. From what we've seen he's been good as a fake warden and the real wardens need more people after they lost so many to Corypheus. Most of all, they need people like him who can stand up and tell them that raising a demon army is a bad idea.

I have to imagine the Wall-Climbers are relieved that his Calling isn't going to be a problem, after all.

Anyone think that if you released him into the Inquisition he would later join the Wardens of his own will?

I was pissed off , there's something I didn't like about him , you could feel sort of the shadow of the bad man he used to be behind all the talk.

There's the talk about the dog , how he told the chevalier who helped him to go away , etc...

I made him a warden , I mean he's responsible for the death of a lot of people , children , but he is a bad man who tried to do good.

And he chose to do that by lying , he could have gone to the wardens earlier .

But I imagine that's not really what he wanted , he didn't want to be a warden , he wanted to be Blackwall the better man.

I think it would be better for him to just be himself and realise he can change , but I'm not sure I have so much faith in him.

So warden it is , he may die or survive the joining.

You'd be surprised. Quite a few wanted him to be a Warden.

I "forgave him" because my inquisitor is all about second chances... And we are totally bro's.

I was like "whut" when I heard about it. At first, I thought he was the most boring out of the cast, but after that twist, I was like "whoa, he's a what?" And he was more interesting to me after.

I did give him a second chance because I didn't believe it right for him to continue lying and Grey Wardens are kind of in a pickle in the story. And people should get second chances, shouldn't they? That's just my opinion anyway ^_^

And the analogy of him and Valjean is surprisingly on-point to me, lol. I never thought of that XD

Blegh. Just went through this quest and now I feel crappy!!! I mean, my inquisitor ended up forgiving him but the whole thing left a sour taste in my mouth. I was oblivious to "Blackwall" being an impersonator until I took him to some dwarven ruins with darkspawn. My quizzy asked him how many to expect and he was just like "uhhhh... it's hard to tell...." I mean It was pretty shifty but... I didn't expect that mess. Man, that had to suck if you were romancing him!! Well i guess i still like him anyway. He seems genuinely remorseful and sickened with himself. It was just so... much to take in. Lol i just know in future playthroughs im just gonna shake my head when i meet "warden Blackwall" again.

I dunno he did do a terrible thing.  But I give him props for trying to atone and make up for it in his own way even if initially it wasn't so...brave.  And if you romanced him and that being the first time you find that out you are kind of stunned for a while lol.  And if he sticks around its obvious its very hard for him to just forget it all, so I can't say he is without conscience.

If you take Cole with you in parties, the banter between the two before and after the fact is very interesting I have to say.  Makes you understand it all a bit more if you have a softer heart I suppose.

I enjoyed the twist though.  What you get for expecting something straightforward. :P  I mean, hes a "warden" after all.  I never expected him to be clean-cut goody two shoes.  But yeah.

It does make for an interesting look back on every conversation ever with him.  Explains why he was never scared of certain things or ever really knowledgeable about other things.

And honestly I found him to be the most enjoyable of the male romances (not that the other two are bad in any means).  Surly old man with a beard ftw. :P

I confess that I was pretty impressed with the plot twist when I found out (if you bring Varric along to the execution he has the best dialogue) especially when he disappeared from the party with no warning.  Here I thought I didn't chose the right answer the right way when it came to the dog ("was I supposed to berate him for poor decision when he was a kid?") but to find out it was supposed to happen that way was clever.

As for my emotional investment, I rescued him just to make him a warden after since I "needed" him for the inquisition but the one thing that threw me was the Wicked Grace party came after all this went down and he was guffawing at the table with everyone else.  I was like "Dude. I might have rescued your sorry ass but if you think you're welcome at this table after that, you got another thing coming!"

At the time, it made me look forward to my planned romance...but I lost all respect for the character and don't even keep him in my party anymore.  I sentence him to the wardens, though.

Fridge brilliance: He tells Loghain he doesn't fear the calling, and doesn't take the conscripts you meet him with.
