How can we forgive him if we weren't the ones who suffered from his actions?

I was hoping we would be able to drag him to the resting place of the people he killed and have him beg for forgiveness at their graves. Maybe in a DLC.

Pretty sure he will be made into a Greywarden if you leave him to them. He was gonna go into the joining, and most of the Greywardens are criminals.

Even so, there's a good chance he won't survive the Joining.

In another thread, people pointed out to you that Cole says that the dead family doesn't want him to apologise - they just want to not be dead.  You argued that this was irrelevant.  I don't see why your feelings or Blackwall's are more important than theirs in this matter.  They're clearly the ones who were wronged, so their wishes should be the most respected.

I sent him to the wardens too. Just as I did with Erimond and the Mayor. I thought he was trying to use the inquisition(like Vivienne) for some personal gain, this really caught me off-guard. I thought, hey, Carver was sent away with Aveline to protect him and if the calling was not affecting him where he was, then this boring bland guy was resisting it pretty well. Anyway, to all who romanced this fire hydrant, make sure he is acquainted with Hygiene and Grooming... Dorian said they(the three) should get acquainted.

So I completely didn't have this quest happen to me. And I talked to him all the time! Maybe it was because I never did his fetch quest.

 

Imagine my confusion when I go online and read he's NOT a Grey Warden. I definitely thought people were lying.

The reveal isn't until after this main quest, you can call him on the lies too.  It's also been 10 years, grey wardens don't all know each other - they stretch the continent of Thedas.

I sent him back to the Grey Wardens. He was a good warrior and they wouldn't care about his past anyway. Also it is a punishment of sorts, even if it is what he wants. His life will be spent in an endless war against darkspawn, and

if the Hero of Ferelden doesn't find a cure for the taint

, he'll eventually die in battle against them.

 

 

I had suspected he wasn't what he claimed to be when he no-sold the Calling. 

 

Over all I found this did add a layer onto his character that made him that much more compelling.

I suspected he wasn't a true Grey Warden because I he was in the party during the mission where you go through the Fade, and when the demon is taunting your party members he implies that Blackwall isn't who he says he is.

 

Even so, I didn't see the Thom Ranier reveal coming. I just thought it was going to be revealed that he never did the Joining. I didn't expect that Blackwall would be the name of a dead guy and an alias.

The mission against the noble after all was part of Gaspard's scheming against the Empress. The target was an ally of Celene. This wasn't a case of having orders that he couldn't refuse, because the murder was an act of treason. Celene, not Gaspard, was head of state. He could have quite easily betrayed the plot without consequences. He didn't because he lost the fortune he had won at a tourney in the Free Marches, and the plot promised a way of regaining that lost wealth.

 

Blackwall was no victim of the game, he was a willing participant. He took part in the plot mostly out of personal greed, which is also no doubt why the consequences weigh so heavily on his conscience.

Yeah Blackwall...I strongly dislike him. Pre reveal he's just a boring KISA but post it? Annoying, and just makes me feel disgusted. I don't think I'll bother recruiting his lying ass from now on. Or I'll just let him hang post reveal. Bleh.

Yeah, what he did was quite serious, but I feel as though he had been trying to redeem himself. I kept him with me in order for him to continue to do so. He could have continued to hide what he'd done, but he didn't want to let one of his guys take the fall. I still like him, and regardless of what he did in the past, his heart is in the right place now. My Inquisitor relies on him so much out on the field, and Blackwall always has his back.

Yeah, my opinion as someone who has romanced him is that what he did as Rainier was terrible, but the man that he was back then is effectively dead. He's changed a lot, but if some people can't forgive him for what happened, well, they can't forgive him. All I have to say is that's he's done a lot of good since then and that if he were still some cowardly, self-interested, mercenary jerk like he used to be, he wouldn't have stood up in the way that he did and publicly declared himself.

 

To each their own, however.

Blackwall isn't even a warden and yet he proved to be better than the actual Wardens.  Corypheus was exploiting a weakness that Blackwall doesn't possess, and bringing Blackwall to Adamant will have him inspire the wardens to snap out of it.

Yeah i was expecting him to just be a Walt... but yeah the reveal was pretty cool.

Incredibly interesting plot. I mean with him and Solazz, we knew they had skeletons in their closets so I was excited to see what he had done in his past.

In saying that, I felt like he had atoned... and will atone for the rest of his life by being both a good example and having to live with that guilt. Too bad it causes issues with the treaties.

No, that's the right order.  I put it down to the fact the wardens are in total disarray - they're frightened and armed a dangerous combo.  Those who are at Adamant may never have met Blackwall, heard of him, yes, seen or met him no.

Didn't say anything different, but it shouldn't be that easy for someone to just say they're a Warden. They're an organized military group that is respected across Thedas, it shouldn't be that easy for someone to just throw a uniform on and say they're part of the oranization.

It also makes no sense that other wardens didn't detect him. The taint is a big "HI I'M A WARDEN." sign. They should've realized he wasn't tainted.

 

Granted I guess you can excuse it as them being under stress and not bothering to look past the armor. But still...

The Wardens are Adamant, yes. However Alistair/Logain/Stroud can meet him in a cave in Crestwood and yet don't detect that he isn't one.
