The previous thread got locked, and it becomes really off-topic, so I just want to know people's opinions on the sex scenes and how it compared to the other Bioware games like ME3 or DAO. There are other topics to talk about sexual orientation or why no sex scene is better or why it's not necessary, so I want to focus specifically on the ones that have sex scenes and if you are happy with it, or would something like ME3 was better. I like that they don't shy away from nudity, but I find ME3 scenes have a lot more passion, especially scenes with the ME1 companions in ME3. They don't have any boobs or ass, but the scenes convoy a lot more passion than what we have in DAI. I find Sera scene to be very well done and a realistic portrayal of what I have in mind before DAI. Still, I find ME3 scenes to be the best out of all the games made by Bioware.

Personally, I never played ME3 (or any of them, really), but I have played all the DA games. I have to say that the sex scenes aren't really necessary, but they add a lot of depth to the romance. Of course, for games like DA:O, people have made mods that I feel may have taken things a bit too far. I believe that what we saw in DA:I was just right, though...

Spoiler

It's not about anything dirty. It's more about a culmination of feelings and emotions that we all want to feel as RPG fans who immerse ourselves into our characters.

Played/almost finished Solas's romance. I have some problem at talking about a sex scene (since there isn't one).

But the kisses where very passionate. A chance for a little more intimacy would have been a great culminate in such good romance (even if less than others romances). But I'll take the hints here and there and headcanon. (and hope for DLC/expansion, seeng how it end)

What I miss more in Solas's romance is that there isn't much content in general outside the romance scenes. It feel like he and Lavellan didn't have much time together, if not to talk about his personal mission. and it feel strange, expecially since he is quite an important character plot wise. He is present in a lot of scene of Cole...but is not really the same...

I was impressed when rockstar did it. breaking new ground and showing how mature games have become.

I was annoyed when Bioware did it.  Even have romances as a huge part of your games and always chose the "underwear" route or the fade to black crap, but now that other companies do it you choose to now go away from that and now ride on their coat-tails? lame.

I have not seen a romance scene yet, but have heard it has nudity and everything now and no matter how well done it is, its the fact they were so shy and refused to do it before with romances been a HUGE part of their games to many people....now just playing follow the leader.  I think thats weak.

I can't think of any Rockstar sex scenes that aren't anything more than "f**k a hooker in a car", other than the Hot Coffee Mod (which is hilariously terrible and nearly unwatchable).

Also, Bioware are hardly riding anyone's coattails. If they were, you would have full view of the actual intercourse, a la Witcher 2. Of course, you're judging something you admit to having not seen, so it isn't like anything I say will actually dissuade you.

You should play Red Dead Redemption.  It's an amazing game.  Literally my favorite Rockstar game.

(if you have played it and just don't remember there is one at some point when you get to Mexico with Reyes I don't remember the exact point it happens though)

That said the first ever game I saw nudity on was a Dreamcast game called "Carrier"  I was a little kid and had no idea....bricks were literally shat.  I mean I had the internet and watched hollywood movies obviously, but it was the first game boobs I had seen and it threw me off.

I quoted you before the edit so I missed this, I will respond though.

All you are doing now is arguing trivialities.  The point is not how far they will go.  It's that they did a 180 on everything they were about once someone else paved the way for them.  It people don't mind that, then that's fine, but to me that's something I can't stand in any way.  If it was a change in management then fair enough and I will respect that.....It still looks that way though.

If a few more games have intercourse in them...or at least the next Witcher game, I wouldn't be surprised to see it here eventually.

Also why would I need to see this to have an opinion like I have?  It's either there or it isn't and that is the angle I'm coming from....the inclusion of it or not after multiple past references.

Do you mean the scene with Reyes f**king his servant girl?

That's hardly tasteful or mature.

Also, Bioware had scenes with semi-nudity as far back as the first Mass Effect. They toned it down from then to now because Fox News got into their heads that ME1 was somehow pornographic, because a split-second of sideboob with no nipples being seen is provocative.

Wait... What? So because BioWare did a sex-scene AFTER some other company had done it, it is intolerable? Dafuq?

Not what I said at all.  I don't care either way if its in the game or not.

I just take issue with the how for game after game after game after game after game after game (literally) its the same every time.

few other companies do it.

ok lets change it up now and do that like they did! The sex scene and nudity is just the background here....I have this view on everything.  Be a leader not a follower.

That said, its their game and they do can whatever the hell they want.....I just expected more is all.  Despite all of the bugs and glitches with DAI I still think they're one of the "better" devs in the industry.

Tasteful is exactly the word I was looking for. I would rather watch something like that than a scene filled with boobs and butts.

Except they aren't all the same. Not even close. In ME1, there was side boob. In ME2, the furthest it ever went was foreplay, no actual sex is shown. In DAO, it was underwear. In DA2, it was foreplay again (depending on the individual scenes, since it's different for each character). In ME3, it's foreplay, fade to black, and then pillow talk (again, depending on who you romanced, but they tend to follow this pattern). In DAI, there's full-on nudity, BDSM (with Iron Bull), and a fade to black before the actual intercourse begins (and depending on who you romance, it's either for-fun-style sex, or "making love").

So no, they haven't really repeated the formula outside of ME1, where the scenes were literally all the same but with different characters.

You realize that "Hot Coffee" was cut content that was discovered fragments of on the disk of the game? And that sex scenes in games had precedent BEFORE San Andreas?

Hell... It isn't even a trope copied from other games. It is something taken directly from the film industry... It is supposed to symbolize the culmination of the interweaving of two characters' storyarcs...

I never mentioned "Hot Coffee" and I don't care to talk about it.

If that's how you view it then that's fair enough.  We just see it differently and I doubt we can meet in the middle.  In MY mind if it was going to be something borrowed or taken from the film industry it should have been around for all their games starting with ME1 as IMO they were all good when it came to story.  Some more lacking than others obviously, but some of the best stories the gaming industry has to offer IMO.  So to me that isn't the case.

I'm glad that since they decided to have them they got rid of the awkward underwear, that's all that really bothered me before. Fade to black was fine and an actual scene is fine, the nudity is tasteful and either covered by camera angle or just breasts/butts. I think they did a good job.

I think nudity is completely unnecessary. I'm personally fine with The Truman Show version where it fades to black or something.

No you mentioned Red Dead Redemption, which was released AFTER Mass Effect 1 (which included nudity, though not the full frontal variety). Then people went all in an uproar about that. The next few games BioWare went with the "clothed sexy time" approach, then people complained to no end about that. And now they are trying to full frontal nudity route.

It has nothing to do with other games.

Well good for Bioware listening to the community then.

I didn't feel as attached as I was with Liara in ME but then again that was a whole 3 games together. I don't feel as close to the characters as I did in previous DA games either. But, I did like the amount of effort required to get their attention. As an elf trying to romance Sera, it was a bit of a challenge. But the reward was nice. She's a little sex crazy, though I'm really hoping there's more character involvement passed the sex scene. Anyway, definitely an enjoyable fun sex scene with Sera... For those who want to see: I'm glad underwear sex is over with, and I do hope they continue on this path.. But I also hope that there's more to it than just everything leading to a sex scene. Unfortunately like most people, I am hearing very little to no banter between party members and I'd like for others to recognize our relationship and hear jokes or whatever about us.

Can nudity be tastefully done so it convoy passion and not lust? Sex scenes exist in many media like movies and TV shows, and sometimes when the two leads get together, it gives out the sense of passion between them not lust. At least that's the case for me when it comes to sex scenes, even though DAI has nude scenes, they're not as good as the ME3 scenes, despite the silliness of underwear sex.

I still dont have the game..so I'm looking forward to see how the cutscene (or Love scene) have Improved . In DAO...it was a Horrors!!

Female + leliana did their romance..like a Male would......and let me tell ya..we dont do it that way

In Mass effect , it was more sensual then sex (I think of the one with Liara in Mass Effect 1) .

As fade to Black , it was in Baldur's Gate 2 and we already had a tiny charachter......so we couldn't see squat . Considering the game is full of 3D pixel with bewbz and what not....using Fade to Black..kinda feel akward .

Y'know , like in DA 2 . Having Gamlen Stare at his daughter open dress....and bewbz , but later have Hawke go fade to black with Bela ?? That feel weird to me .

There is nothing mature about nudity and sex in games at all. It's actually pretty juvenile. It just reminds me of one of the reasons people get excited over The Witcher and i find it silly. At least they didn't make it as misogynistic and over the top as in that game and the scenes fit the characters. It's nothing to do with shyness it's just having good taste and a respect for their art. They are making a game not pornography I'm sure artists out there exist for people who want to see that. People went on about it long enough for them to just decide to have nudity but people have been modding that in Dragon Age for ages anyway for people who want it. Would have been happy with a cute little romantic bed scene i don't care much for the end result being a sex scene as it is. Kind of an odd representation of relationships between people like it says "If you say enough nice things then eventually people will have sex with you"

I enjoyed Dorian's sex scene. It's amazing how pixels, combined the right way, can create such a glorious butt.

In the Blackwall scene I saw my character's barbie-fied dwarf boobs and frankly I really could've done without it. It was weird, too, as she was waking up on a bed of straw, more or less. Wanted to get the poor lady a blanket.

What about nudity in a game is inherently juvenile?
