How is the ending in this game in a word if you had to describe it? I'm only 40ish hours in and I'm worried about continuing the main quest because I hear it's super short and I kind of want to drag the game out a bit.

The only thing I've heard is that it's super abrupt. Is that true? It would suck if it's another ME3 ending.

Very good and interesting, if a bit short and not very challenging (was level 21 on Normal)

The "ending" isn't short unless you are cherry picking out the literal "last" mission and ignoring the previous missions AND the post "last"-mission scenes/dialog. I can understand why some people would call it short, but in the same way I can understand why some people rush through and then complain the game is only ~20 hours long.

Edit: I'll just add short or not, it's a good ending. Especially if you have played the previous two games.

That's good to hear. Good that I'm not setting myself up for massive disappointment. I am truly loving this game at the moment.

Does it end like it's the end of the Dragon Age saga, or does it leave doors open for sequels? Or would it be too spoiler-y to say?

It leaves doors open. I would say the ending is similar to DA:O in some ways.

Let me put it this way...the fight with the big bad is not what is interesting. If you count the last two (?) missions and what happens after the credits (seriously, do NOT accidentally skip the cutscene after the credits or you will regret missing it, imo), I found it somewhat mind-blowing.

Again, it's not the final fight with the big bad that's exciting - it's the last two missions combined as an extended ending that matter. I'm still slightly floored by some of the things that happened, and I certainly think it leaves doors open for future sequels. I mean...there is clearly more going on - a lot more. I wish I could say something, but spoilers and all.

really abrupt, and the final level is a bit underwhelming (especially when Bioware really flexed their awesomeness-muscles with missions like In Your Heart Shall Burn), but storywise it wrapped everything up nicely and even left a pretty good sequel hook after the credits :)

Wow sounds great. I gotta finish up companion quests and beat the game tomorrow.

Whatever a DA: I sequel might be, I really hope it's different from this though. Main quests and squad banter is A-OK, but the side quests, aping of Skyrim and so on, it feels like the game is two desperate things at once that just don't gel to me, which is sad when previously Bioware had relied on a formula (DAO or Mass Effect franchise) that has worked amazingly well.

But Bioware, leads and senior guys, still a big kudos for trying something so ambitious, but there is stuff to improve and maybe reconsider, both if you wanna catch the heart of your fans or even a new mainstream.

The ending really is a series of missions, the last 3 missions, they feel as though they are meant to be played in quick succession. I'm waiting to do the last of the three I want to clear some left overs first. From what I hear the slides style from DA:O is involved.

Yes liked the ending.

The last mission could of been longer.
