So uh, I must be missing something because I can't seem to find any way to increase the number of hotbar slots in the game. I just got my ninth ability but the hotbar stays resolutely at eight slots.

I've missed some obvious option right? Maybe if I find the right part to drag on the hotbar I can extend it like in Origins, or there's a tick box in the menu, right?

Right? :'(

There's only 8 abilities slot in DAI

You cant cast extra abilities from command wheel, you want to use other abilities then replace 1 from hotbar

There's already huge debates about this during pre release, just search around

Personally, it's fine and the combat is desingned around it

...no.

If you can access all your abilities on the fly on consoles but not on a PC then the combat was not "designed around it".

If you can't access all your abilities on one platform then the design of the interface for that platform is broken.

You can't even change what's on your hotbar during a fight - that doesn't even matter anyway, you should have to enter a menu and rebind your keys in the middle of a fight to use a different ability.

This was a bad design decision.

No, you can't access all abilities on console either. You have eight slots, I have eight slots, we have to map what we want into one of the eight slots.

Can you access them all on console? Doubt it.

If Magma_Axis gave me incorrect information that's not my fault and that doesn't make this a good design decision just because it's equally bad on all platforms.

Even if you say it's an intentional part of the system that is belied by the fact that the AI controlled characters can use any number of abilities.

This is actually a fair point. However my thoughts on the subject are hopefully in the future, the will be able to incorporate cross-platform multi-player. That is honestly the only reason I can see for the restriction.

The other point of dismay I have with the restriction is, it restricts some classes more than others. A good example would be tempest. Needing the 3 slots for your flasks really limits the other spells you can take. In addition, 1 focus ability. Which brings it down to 4 active abilities. As a Rogue on nightmare I'm pretty much forced to have at least 1 escape method, bringing it down to 3.

I have alot more than 3 Damage Dealing abilities I would like to use, thanks :P

Im not misleading anyone. Maybe you miss the "t" in cant.

If you want to access more than 8 abilities, just wait for a mod in PC version

Extremely unlikely to happen. Apparently the engine DA:I is built around is not easily moddable. We are unlikely to see mods that change game mechanics. Most probably just superficial texture mods and stuff like that.

I did, somehow.

...I blame your aversion to apostrophes personally.

Frostbite? Mods?  :?

I've been told that DA:I is even more difficult to mod than most Frostbite games since it has an immutable load order. If that's true then I don't see how it would be possible to mod at all except maybe texture mods

The AI can and will use more than 8 abilties and the mapped abilities must not used at all by AI. Some of my AI controlled characters use 10+ abilities and have another 2-3 abilties mapped for manual selection.
