I created a worldstate in the Keep that has Alistair a drunken disgrace, Loghain having killed the archdemon and Carver as a Templar. That said, who will be joining Hawke and I for Adamant?
Who are all the possible NPC companions with Hawke?

Loghain can join if he is spared and made a Warden. Alistair can show up if he isn't crowned (I don't know if him being a drunkard affects it or not, I never imported a save like that from the Keep). If neither of them, you get Stroud (the same guy who recruited Hawke's living sibling into the Wardens after the Deep Roads expedition if you let him).

I never would have met Stroud, given that Carver stayed in Kirkwall for the Deep Roads expedition. Maybe it will be a sobered Alistair... that will be an interesting choice. Loghain is dead as he killed the AD, and no DR in this worldstate.

Aw man. I got Stroud. If I'd known I could get Alistair or Loghain I would have created a different world state.

Wait.. Anders is alive in this world.. perhaps it will be him? Please oh please, abandonment in the Fade is so much sweeter than a quick knife to the throat.

It's just Loghain, Alistair and Stroud. No Anders, no Carver, etc. If you don't have Loghain or Alistair as Wardens, you get Stroud, period.
You may not remember him, but you did meet Stroud in DA2, in any case - he was leading the Wardens present during the qunari attack. He always shows up, whether it's with Alistair, with Bethany, with Carver, or just with some random Wardens if none of those three are available.

If your sibling became a Grey Warden, Stroud is the one who saved them.

Does anyone else feel that Warden Bethany/Carver should have been the NPC if Alistair/Loghain weren't wardens? And if they died/became a mage or templar Nathaniel should have been the NPC instead? If he was dead then Stroud would've been his replacement? Personally I think Bioware missed a great opportunity by not including those characters.

Then you'd have to customise their appearance too... and for characters who had two separate opportunities to die, and might not have become Wardens at all.

Not customise them per say, just use different models depending on the race choice the player choose for Hawke like they did in DA2. And Alistair and Loghain had seperate opportunities to die and they could still stay/become Wardens too and they still make an appearance depending on choices.

It would have been interesting but, unfortunately, resources are not infinite. For every extra you put here, you lose something somewhere else. Three more unique characters, all with the amount of screen time and writing Stroud/Loghain/Alistair got through this quest, would have meant big cuts in other parts of the game. We don't know what would need to be cut to put even more content into this quest than it already has, but sometimes the tradeoff just isn't worth it.

Yeah, that's completely true. It's just that to me personally it felt more emotional with Loghain/Alistair and therefore much more harder to choose between them and Hawke because I as the player, have spent more time with them unlike Stroud who I basically met for five minutes. Bioware hit the nail on the head with Loghain/Alistair though and it would've been really interesting to add other characters we've spent time with to the mix to make it even more emotional and hard. Still you're right and for what we got, it was awesome.

Whoa whoa whoa wait wait wait wait wait!
I got Stroud, but... You know that decision you have to make when you're about to escape the Fade? Yes, that one.
BUT. If I get Alistair (as a Grey Warden) instead of Stroud, does that mean I actually have to...

Oh yeah, definitely. I had heard about this "hard choice" I'd have to make at the end of the mission, and when it came, I was like... seriously? Bye, Stroud lol Hawke, go home to Fenris ![]()

Well f**k! XD
I guess I'll go with default Hawke instead of my own then, I won't feel that bad about it that way. Poor Varric though...
