The only way around it is mess with the ears to look more like a monkey or try a different head shape with the slider. That is if you insist on using that hair style.

You better get used to awful clipping in this game. A LOT of the hairstyles clip through ears and my character's chin is ALWAYS clipping through his stupid beige PJs collar.

The infuriating thing about this is Bioware's supposed excuse for not giving us long hairstyles is because the tech artists take too much pride in their work to allow styles that would clip... I call BS!!!!

Their own basic, short, ugly styles clip on a regular basis. It's embarassingly bad.

If only they could implement tresfx. Assassins Creed Unity by far has the best hair and facial animations in a game i have seen so far. Too bad that game is broken otherwise.

This bothers me too. I expect better from AAA games. DAO had issues too.. you'd think they'd evolve by now.

The CC is just lame in general. I hate that all of my companions look 1000 times cooler, no matter what I do. Those characters have the luxury of artists going over every detail, in a real modeling tool.

If it has to be so lame, they should have just given me some cool defaults, like Shep and male/female Hawke.

I think you can make the ears smaller, move them down, and tilt them outward more and that should fix it. That's what I've done at least (I don't know if changing the size is available on all races though)

It depends on the head shape.. for human males at least. Unfortunately some of the head shapes have clipping no matter what. There's nothing you can do with the ears. The problem is in the skull design itself.

That said, most head shapes suck and are really bizarre.. unless you're making a freakish joke character. The normal head shapes have clipping.

I suspect that's what I should have done.

I also found that hair is clipping through the ear on my elf-miss. I only did so once I was out of CC, in-game, however. In CC it looked fine, as it does in cut-scenes.

We shouldn't have to do that. I don't want to make an anatomically incorrect Dumbo character to avoid clipping... :/

Nope, sorry, but those proportions are all wrong... The top of the ear (where the cartilidge meets the head) MUST be level with the eye when looking at the profile. The ear in that photo looks like it's growing out of the jaw... (Shudders to think of the ear canal opening up into the mouth) :P

Some faces are just like that  you'd have to choose between the perfect ratio and clipping I guess, You could also move your other features lower if it bothered you.

Hmm I'm not sure that photo is a good example... Her head is titled up, so the angle is different. If you use a ruler, you can see her ear is level with the eye. I'm kind of particular about anatomical proportions because I took an art class where it was drilled in my head, but people are welcome to make whatever kinds of characters they want, even ones with big anime eyes :) I like having the option to customize my character however I want! :)

What I DONT like is being forced to make a character look like Dumbo in order to avoid hair clipping through the ear. Thats not cool.

The hair clipping through the ears is really one of those things that's minor but really grinds my gears. I'm not sure why it's happening, but the Dumbo ears or changing the head shape is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a "fix." It's not just lazy, it feels amateurish. I'd love to see a fix for it, but I sincerely doubt we ever will. I'd love entirely different hair options anyway, but that's not going to happen unless/until someone figures out how to add it.

True, I guess ears just don't bother me much. It doesn't look as extreme to me as it apparently does to you. I think the crappy hair itself (as well as the broken elf arms) is a far bigger issue to me than clipping or ear position

You're right - the head is tilted in the picture of the model. OP's original pic actually has anatomically correct ear placement.

There's no getting around the clipping I'm afraid. We just have to accept it. Bioware also needs to accept it and juts give us long hair.

I think they need to just improve their work. As much as I like the game, this is a weak link (albeit a minor link, by most accounts). And clipping is just one problem. I just see it as an indicator how poor the whole thing is.

I think DA2's CC might've been the best, even if it wasn't all that flexible. It was easier to at least not look like ass.

edit: It could also be that I'm getting worse results on Xbox than PC players. I can't even make a minor tweak to the chin, for example, without it looking out-of-line with the jaw once I'm in game. Nothing comes off smoothly unless I just stick to defaults.

See, here's the thing. I don't think limitations to character creator (especially hair options) is just a weak link. I think it's a fundamental flaw. RPGs are all about roleplaying, and with the advent of character creation years ago, RPGs became more immersive. Hair variety is one of the most fundamental ways of altering appearance. There should be more hair options than any other option, so that players can display radically different appearances. The model here is Dragon's Dogma, which apart from the limits of last-gen tech, is still to my mind the gold standard of character creation systems. Just take a look at the pawn community to see the variety of characters people have created. And that game has something like 50 different hairstyles, each radically different from the others.

I play on PS4, so I expect that's fairly similar to the X1. What changes are you making to the chin? Maybe lower the jawline to accommodate a new chin? Or the mouth? I've spent 25+ hours in CC, so tweaking it has kinda become second nature by now.

Yeah, Dragon's Dogma was pretty good. Although I still haven't really played it. I've had it on my shelf for awhile, but I did mess with the CC once.

I actually can live with the hair clipping, if it would mean they give us a variety of decent hair options. (and not 40 versions of shaved)

It's worth playing through. The CC is great, but even it will be surpassed next year when Black Desert releases.

I'll get around it. I just have a lot of games sitting around.

Anyways, this may not be a minor link to you and I, but I think it probably is for most. If it was up to me, I'd rip into whoever was responsible. Just like I would at any other workplace. This whole thing reeks of someone who doesn't put any love into what they do. I don't mean to be dramatic, but I know it when I see it. It could be flipping burgers, and you can still tell when someone doesn't care.

But alas. It's not important.

I think it's entirely legitimate to be "dramatic" about the CC, or least the hair aspect. It shines in most respects, but the lack of attention to hair (both in options and shine) clearly speaks to the motives of the designer(s). Bioware should definitely review those individuals involved in the creation of the hair options and correct their mistake in either a patch or DLC. It's not just a lack of options that we're all complaining about - our "dramatic" frustration comes from the negative impact hair has on the game. Beards, hairstyles, shine, lack of options - all of it negatively impacts our immersion.

And this is the key point: this was all so predictable. Anyone with some basic sense would realize, while designing the hair and hair options, that gamers would be frustrated. That these errors weren't fixed speaks to the lack of concern on the part of whichever designer(s) was involved. None of us buy the lame "we're so committed to our work that we..." excuse. Just give us more hair and make it less shiny.

It's not even that we are acting like an "entitled" audience. When 40-50% of the female hair options are short/buzz cuts and many of the others are clearly unattractive, there's no question that the designers fudged the hair.

Yeah...but the one thing with Bioware is they SUCK at hair. Trying to make a unique character in ME was a nightmare. I just went with default shepard male. (females are a little easier)

They need to fire or hire some better modeling and texture artists for the hair. I mean...yeesh. I'm in a college of beginners, and the kids here do way better at 3D modeling then these professionals. And really? How lazy did they get with the what...10+ versions of shaved hair?

I've never once used the ME CC system, because I preferred to use the default Shepherd. I keep hearing these complaints about it, but have no experience of it. :P

What gets me the most is that there are less hair options in DAI than in DAO and DA2. I can't even begin to conceive how that's possible. For a game that's so damned good in other respects, this hair disaster is a serious curveball.
