I don't know if it's just me, but Cullen's take on most of the missions are just...questionable. Like, it's as if his answer to everything is we'll send soldiers. You can't solve everything with soldiers, Cullen! I spend a lot of time, after assigning Josephine and Leliana wondering where to put him and eventually just getting him to pick up rocks.

Like...there was the bard who was complaining about someone gossiping about her. And his response was "No. This is ridiculous". Or the Dalish halla he was like, "If it's that important, we'll send soldiers with the blasted Halla." Or like, we'll send soldiers. We'll send soldiers. WE'LL SEND SOLDIERS.

We get it. You like soldiers.

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

What else is he supposed to suggest? Cullen isn't any more prone to sending soldiers than leli is to sending spies or Josie is to sending diplomats.

I also think he was sort of pigeon holed into his roll to be perfectly frank. Josephine is diplomacy, Leliana is subterfuge, what does that logically leave Cullen with? Not very much if I'm going to be honest. He doesn't have even half the diplomatic skills that Josephine has in her little pinky, nor the ability to be stealthy like Leliana and run a major spy network that can go behind enemy lines. All he has is his soldiers, and quite a few of them aren't very skilled given that many are former pilgrims or worshipers who dropped what they were doing for the cause. I get what you mean, he was pretty much my go to 'get these herbs for me' person on the war table, but he's sort of stuck as is - especially since there needed to be a 'no, throw swords at it' sort of response on the War Table so people could role-play accordingly.

But like Leliana and Josephine were at least CREATIVE with their suggestions. There was always a way to outmanuever it. It was...The Game as they both say. Cullen just likes to stab things. Like, I noticed it the most when the Skyhold bard was complaining about a fellow bard gossiping about her. It was obviously important to her but Cullen was like, No. This is ridiculous. Even Leliana wanted to cut the bard's tongue out! (Forgot what Josie's option was. I liked the tongue-cutting.)

Try getting to know the character instead of judging him by the war table lol. But in case you didn't notice he is a former Templar and a soldier. It's kind of what he does. Each advisor fills a role. Diplomacy,Intelligence and Military. It's up to you to decide which of these best suits the job.

There are some things he's better for, such as sending an honor guard, or escorting mages or refugees, or building guard towers, or helping rebuild Haven. You just need to choose the right tool for the job.

I *like* Cullen as a person and as a friend. Hate him at the war table though. There has to be one war table mission where he says I'll use my dashing good looks to seduce the count or something.

Lol Cullen doesn't like playing games like that, he's direct and straightforward. If you need manpower or military strength, choose Cullen. If you need secrets discovered or someone assassinated or blackmailed, send Leliana. If you need to negotiate contracts or use favors or apply political pressure on someone, use Josephine.

...

That's odd, I use him almost at least 50% of the time and he almost always gets the best results.

The only ones where he doesn't get pick are the obvious Diplomacy ones, which go to Josie (10% to Leli simply because sometimes I just wanna shank a ******).

But between Leli and Cullen, almost always the ex-Templar.

Sometimes the hammer is better.

But like he's just so blunt. Aside from the example with the bard he dismissed, what about Dagna's war mission about her dad? Josie was like, no we gonna do a parade type thing in honor of her. Leliana was like, no we're going to be very discreet we put in his house where he will not miss it.

Good ol' Cullen?

Nope. He won't like fanfare. We send it. If he likes it, he likes it.

That's...sorry to be slightly sexist...such a typical guy!

He has a lot of clever situations for war table operations. Yes, most of his are 'send soldiers' like most of Josephine's are 'diplomatic message' and Leliana's are 'send spies' but each of them has more nuanced ones.

The commander of your soldiers sends soldiers on missions.

Next you'll tell me Josephine is the diplomatic one while Leliana sends spies and agents on her missions. Right.

As a typical guy, I take offense to that.

.....

Well, actually no. I don't.

There are war table missions where there are more nuance for Cullen's based missions, but I guess I could understand how it could be repeatative.

But, eh, I love him.

Yes, platonic guy love is real and awesome.

.......

The fact I felt the need to clarify "non gay" was admitedly embarassing.

Cullen doesn't have an ounce of deception in his body though. Out of all the characters he's the most 'straight forward' out of them all. It makes sense he'd avoid the pom and circumstance, as well as the sneaking, and go straight to the heart of the matter without any fanfare.

Most likely because he's the commander of the Inquisition forces. If you mean his qualifications as a commander however, I do have a problem with him. Cassandra just met him in Kirkwall, see him commanding a bunch of Templars that have no leaders, and thought to herself, "he's perfect for the commander role". Just spell Nope to me.

That's just the kind of person Cullen is. He has no time or patience for little games and shennanigans, if something's got to be done, he just gets it done and that's it. I find some of his suggestions hilarious, like you can almost hear him sighing and thinking "Maker I don't caaaaaare just send some soldiers" in the background, as Leliana and Josephine come up with these elaborate frilly plans for things that really don't need that much fussing.

All three of them always argue on whether to use diplomacy, espionage or troops. They always want to do it the way they're inclined to do things lol. Cullen isn't any different from Leliana or Josie in that respect.

Uhh, nope.

He rallied all the Templars (supposedly the Guards had scattered, but reformed now? I'll admit the idea that Aveline didn't kick **** into order annoys me) and brought order to Kirkwall from the brink of chaos.

That's was what sold him to Cass.

I really liked his answer to one of the first War Table missions with Fergus at Highever. Sending an honor guard was really poignant.
