when i try to play the game after it's loaded, the config. utility program gets stopped by windows and the program closes out with out telling me what is the problem. Is there a conflict with Mass effect-1 and windows 7

Make sure you're patched to 1.02. You should be if you got it recently off a download service, but the retail version would likely need you to apply it.



There shouldn't be a problem with Windows 7, though you may need to experiment with giving the game administrative rights and/or XP compatibility.
