First off, you're comparing an essential key character to a side character that really has no impact, and depending on the play through, fine. If he died, he's a part of a history and goes off into a book somewhere never to be heard of again aside from "That guy who beat the blight".

And why does he deserve this mention, aside from being your beloved character from Origins. What did he do to deserve it? Because from my perspective, he didn't do anything.

As i said there are True Oghren Fans out there who would rather have that Dwarf's name mentioned then have no mention of the said character. If you and the rest of the Oghren haters don't like him, fine but for us, we'd rather have that mention then NOTHING at all. I don't care if his writing was bad in awakening, not knowing anything about Oghren outside of origins is a major letdown. I don't care if Oghren is not a essential key character like your Warden. i'd rather have some closure then nothing at all.

If one didn't recruit him I'm okay with him not being mentioned.  If he died, I at least want Felsi mentioning how she told him so.  If he's a warden, I at least want to hear a recruit saying, "Of course I'm good with an axe.  The head of training at my outpost is this old, drunken dwarf that helped end the blight.  He doesn't take combat training lightly."

Agreed, its better then no mention at all.

I could even stand for it to be not by name, like my example, as long as we know it's him.  :P

As i said before, i'd have more respect for the Writers of Bioware to come out and say, "Yeah we didn't like Oghren, that why we didn't make any mention of him in Dragon age 2 and 3."

I'm running several Inquisitions at once and having difficulty seeing the continuity, which makes me sad.  So much of it in the war table makes sense from a technical perspective, but it's still a letdown.

As i said, How can anyone like Varric over Oghren? Varric was beyond boring whose character had nothing to do with dwarven culture. I never cared for this character and hope to never see him again. The only reason he was brought back because of Hawke and that was it.

Ok let me set the record straight about my complaint about the lack of Oghren in these games. it would make perfect sense for you Oghren haters out there for him to not be mentioned in Dragon Age 2 and 3 cause you claim that his character was messed up in Awakening that...

A: You left him to die at the hands of the Darkspawn during the assault on Vigil's keep if the fortress was not upgraded to withstand such an assault.

and B: You never helped him patch his relationship to Felsi and his kid.

Well for me it doesn't make any sense seeing as how in my playthrough he survived the assault on Vigil's Keep and I patched his relationship with Felsi. When i did that quest finding Nate Howe and he mentioned a Dwarf that was with him, i was hoping it was Oghren and to my surprise it was some dumb cousin to the Glavonak Bros. I really don't understand why in my playthrough of Dragon Age 2, it's treated as if Oghren did die in Vigil's keep assault a second time for no one to mention him.

Ok fine maybe in a DLC for Dragon Age 2. 1st comes Legacy, No Oghren, Strike 1. Next Comes Mark of the Assassin, I thought Oghren would make a cameo with Leliana at that Orlesian estate but nope i was wrong, it was just a cash grab for Felicia Day's character Tallis from that Redemption webseries so that's Strike 2.

Then i get word that Bioware decided to pull the plug on Dragon Age 2 in favor of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Well ok fine, I play the game and still nobody ever says a word about Oghren so that's Strike 3. I am tried of seeing Oghren getting the short end of the stick. I find it unlikely that those involved in the fifth blight would just drop off the face of the earth. I would prefer talking with them directly, but war table missions, codex entries, party banter, NPC banter, That's really just something.

I actually have a very strong thought they have plans for Oghren -- hear me out.

Spoiler

Needless to say, I'm keen to see where this goes.

Why did we get a stupid lousy painting of Oghren's concept art which can be seen near the bar at the Hanged Man in DA2 and not even a freaking reference to his entire existence in that game? What the hell gives?!! Bioware could have made him a stinking cameo just like, Wynne, Nate Howe, Zevran, ect. Oghren could have given us an update on how his new wife Felsi and kid are doing. (if persuaded to be part of their lives) and so on. It all begs the question, why wasn't Oghren in or even at the very least mentioned in DA:I game and DA2 then?

I was very disappointed that they got rid of Oghren in favor of Varric. Oghren was just as capable of telling a story as Varric is. In fact, having a drunken Oghren telling the story of The Champion would have been hilarious. Oghren is very much missed by me. He was a legend in his own mind and utterly hilarious. It's a shame Varric is being carried through to Inquisition instead of Oghren, who I actually cared about more then Varric. I really need some closure on Oghren, he was my favorite companion in Origins and Awakening.

My bet would be that Ohgren is wherever The Warden is. While Anders left, and Nathaniel travelled, any of the Wardens from Awakening (who survived) could plausibly be aiding the Hero of Ferelden in his/her attempts to find a cure for the Calling.

I'm probably in the minority here in saying I was so glad Oghren was not in the game. He never really sat well with me, he had some moments but he felt like a weaker version of other Dwarven characters I've enjoyed that he came off as clichéd.

I too miss Oghren. Just imagine the Oghren/Viv banter, or the Oghren/Dorian banter.

I just realized that all our non-human companions are more human-like than their typical race. Iron Bull is nothing like a normal qunari, he's pretty much 180 from it. Sera hates "evlyness", Varic is a surface dwarf and no fan of Ozimar, Harding is also a surface dwarf and even Dagna who was born in Orzimar is far from a typical dwarf. Might as well have made all these companions human and it wouldn't change who they are.

One does not need to be totally defined by their race. Not all elves have to be wood-loving elfish just as not all Australians have to stereotypical foster drinkers. A character is more than just their physical state of being, Zevran was elven but that was not his defining factors. Bioware does a good job of making what many place too much importance. Next people say that Vivienne should act more "black" when such a thing wouldn't even really work in a setting like Thedas, someone has pointy ears and someone else is short, so what?

Except Sera being human would absolutely change who she is, since who she is is hugely influenced by her own negative feelings towards being an elf (and the limited prospects of an orphaned city elf). Likewise, Dagna wouldn't be Dagna if she didn't have the will to break free from her clearly-defined role in dwarven society and forge ahead with her magical studies. Plus, the fact that she is cut off from all magic drives her curiosity about lyrium and the Fade, and gives her a perspective on the arcane that few others possess.

Even Varric is informed by his dwarven heritage- his family's exile from Orzammar essentially killed his parents and made his brother obsessed with dwarven culture and kept them firmly tied to the Merchant's Guild. Do you think Varric wants to deal with all that drama? No. But he does it anyway because of his very dwarven family.

As for Oghren, I tend to think BW is done with him. Gaider has said that he felt pressured to bring him back in Awakening and wish he hadn't, so I can't see them dredging him up again, regardless.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Oghren again, but he never actually struck me as a serious character.  Outside of the Felsi thing, he didn't seem to have anything going for him besides "drunk dwarf".  That's not to say that people shouldn't like him or anything though.

I'm glad that the companions have more going for them than their races.  Their personalities are informed by their race, but not limited to it, just like in real life.

The best part about not DAO is no Oghren. He is the single DA character I actually hate. In fact the sole Bioware character I hate.

I want to see this *proof* that Gaider has said that he felt pressured to bring Oghren back in Awakening and wish he hadn't cause I don't really believe Gaider when he claims that was the only time he did that.

I don't care if Oghren is a side character and Felsi and their child are even less than that and are not that important. Maybe you don't want to see that Dwarf but I'm sure others who are true "Oghren" fans out there want to see that Dwarf again. As i said Oghren is so underrated that he deserves better then no mention at all. Why a stupid lousy painting of Oghren's concept art which can be seen near the bar at the Hanged Man in DA2 and not even a freaking reference to his entire existence in the game? I refuse to accept Oghren is a side character who's not that important, no matter what you oghren haters will say.   Don't be a jerk just because you think Oghren is not important.

Oghren IS a very important character in the world of DA. He helped stop the 5th blight and is also a grey warden. Plus a friend of the HoF. I don't understand why Bioware is completely ignoring his existence. Varric is alright, but he's just not funny. In his party banters he always come across as sarcastic and too cool and Oghren is a way more interesting dwarf then Varric can ever be.

And really, I could understand why Varric was there in the beginning of DAI, but later on he's just lurking about because he wants to "save the world". The only reason he's there is because of Hawke and that's about it. Beyond that Varric doesn't offer anything else. Oghren is mentioned in The Keep so Bioware would not have bothered to code it if it was not needed.

It's sad that Oghren doesn't make an appearence but after i played DAI through some terrible thought hit me:

What if Oghren was hearing the calling too? As a Dwarf i think he wouldn't search for a cure because he isn't afraid of death and he had his age too...

He would go into the Deep Roads and fight his last fight as a proud Warden and Warrior.

And maybe his death was the reason the HoF is trying to find a cure?

If thats Oghrens Fate i would definitely crying for him. He was one of my favorite Charcters :)

the book isn't canon, though. But even if it was, Cole should have mentioned both her and Shale.

Cole sort of mentions Wynne when he says "Rhys's mother died for a templar he loved" while your Inquisitor is talking to him. I never read the books so I had no idea Shale was even in whatever book you all are talking about.

As for Oghren...To be honest, I kind of forgot about his existence, considering his character didn't really have that big of an impact on me or because I just figured he went home to Felsi and kids after Awakening.

Oghren should be the Hero of Ferlden's squire. That's if...dwarves can become squires.

Have him go wherever the Warden goes, as the Warden's drunken, lecherous, foul-mouthed Podrick.

You're greatly overestimating Oghren's importance. His relevance to the plot ends the moment the Branka situation is resolved. As for being the HoF's friend, that's entirely up to the player, not set in stone (heh). He could very well just be that drunk that s/he has to put up with once in a while in Awakening.

Like it or not, Varric actually played a much larger role in DA2 than Oghren did in Origins and even Awakening. Unlike Oghren, Varric pretty much starts the major plot of DA2, and even the quest to find Corypheus, since he's the one that tracked down the location of the Carta.

As for being interesting, the interesting part of Oghren, I felt, was that his oafish drunken dwarf persona was a layer over the person that was bitter and suffering loss. In Awakening, this was warped into some kind of weird caricature, with some dashes of deadbeat.

Don't be a jerk just because you think Oghren is not important. Varric is fun and everything, but he's no Oghren. So if anyone is the worst character to represent dwarves, it's Varric since he's a surfacer, whose character has nothing to do with dwarven culture at all!!! I feel like Oghren would really get along with Sera, Iron Bull, and Blackwall. I'm tired of new characters, I want some closure on the old before moving onto the new. It just plain stupid for the writers to drop Oghren off the face of the earth with no mention of his whereabouts. I'll agree with Varric, "That's idiotic" on Bioware's part. And since we don't have a direct answers on that front, the best we can get is looking at the games themselves and do "the math" so to speak.

If you don't want him back fine, but at least that Dwarf deserves a mention for crying out loud. How would you feel if your warden never got a mention at all? And please don't say "I'm comparing an essential key character to a side character that really has no impact, and depending on the playthrough." I treat Oghren the same way as how you treat your warden. If you don't see it the way i see it, then your warden is better off not mentioned at all.

Now that some time has passed (most of the people I know aren't exactly the same as they were over 12 years ago,) hopefully the choices my Warden helped Oghren finally get his act together and be the father figure to his Nugget. If Oghren's still in Ferelden I'm pretty sure that Cass and Leliana would have questioned him about the HoF's whereabouts.
