I'm just curious about the differences between these besides the obvious. As it currently is, dual bladed daggers seem better in general, as they're only a few DPS lower than regular daggers, while offering the ability to... well... AoE. Perhaps I'm missing something. I also find the dual bladed daggers let me stick on enemies better with how spastic they tend to be due to the movement during the attack animation.

On that same note, does it matter which dagger is your main hand (left side of the character screen) versus off hand other than dictating which attack type you do? Does it affect your damage itself?

The important part (especially to DW rogue) is to compare base damage rather than the listed DPS, as that's what affects skill damage. Also note that listed DPS includes rune damage (which is generally specific to certain enemies), so your 250 DPS weapon might not actually be as good as the 240 DPS weapon with better base damage and no rune (or a more useful rune).

No idea how they calculate DW for skills and basic attacks if daggers are different though. I presume skills add weapon damage together? And basic attacks are calculated separately (eg. attack with one then the other).

I think with skills it's based on how many hits they do? Some abilities hit with both weapons simultaneously, others alternate daggers (this is just from what I've observed though). I would always put the higher damage weapon in the rogue's left hand though, because deathblow leads with the left (YMMV depending on build/rotation).

Standard DW animations with normal daggers are horrible in my opinion. I switched to dual-blades as soon as I could (which are pretty awesome + your character advances in your attack direction instead of being stationery), and stuck with them since. Named them after the fallen cities of the Elves, Arlathan and Halamshiral. Now on the look out for level 3 dual-blade schematics.

I assume dual bladed daggers have a friedly fire problem while normal ones dont.

By the way, there is no reason to use 2 dual blades. Just use one in your mainhand, and the new (improved) animation works for both daggers. That gives you a bit more DPS.

Getting the sweeping attack changes your playstyle significantly, and makes it much easier. I would not suggest anyone to use 2 stabbing daggers.

+1! This has the added benefit of having a very hard hitting weapon in the left hand which is great for death blow!

p.s. anyone found level 2 dual-blade schematics somewhere?

Use 1 of each not 2 of both. Put the aoe one in main hand and a regular one in off hand. Sort of like in Archlord where you would have a rapier in main hand and a dagger in off hand for faster combo attacks with the added range. Rogues are not mean't to be AOE power houses as they lack the defense and hp to keep the aggro. If you follow the dual blade skill tree there is a spinning attack that can give you an aoe attack if you prefer, but IMO a dagger rogue should flank attack when possible and remain unseen. Thats not possible if you are going gung ho and trying to aoe kill a group of guys who will simply just kill you.

Oh, that's how I play. But since it appears there's pretty much no downside to using them, I'd rather have the free AoE damage when it happens. Plus the dual bladed daggers seem to typically have higher base damage which equals higher damaging skills.

I found a Master Tier 3 schematic in the Hissing Waste...FYI in case it wasn't a random drop.  Was in one of the tombs and is pretty awesome....especially with Tier 4 Dragon mats.

Also, If you have master work material that adds guard per hit...it is awesome for a rogue.  Tons of DPS, and no  longer squishy due to continual guard increase every hit. Fade Obsidian gives +3 guard/hit.  It's amazing.

Also, do you need specific dual-blade hilts? because I find that I can't use regular dagger hilts on them.

Yes there are specific dual-blade hilts i've found quite a few of them.
