This is a "sequel" to the last thread I made on this topic, but instead of pointing fingers at whoever's fault it is for starting the Mage Rebellion, let's talk about who's fault the whole Breach and Corypheus-thingy is!

So, let me explain the rules of the blame game:

1) Try and think of which person or persons ["persons" is a word; do not correct my grammar ] is most responsible for the event in question.

2) Don't get all angry and serious and defensive, man. It harshes my mellow. This is not a thread of bashing. It is a thread of... "creative discussion". I'm not trying to throw hate on any characters or plot points with this.

Now, of course you could just say that everyone is equally guilty for what occurred and that they are all to blame, but where's the fun in that?

People who come to mind for me:

  • Malcolm Hawke - Should have put a little more blood into that seal, buddy.
  • the Maker - Was turning the magisters into darkspawn really necessary? You couldn't have killed them instead, or maybe have just given them a stern talking to?
  • Hawke - I could blame your siblings, but they might've not been there with you. Next time you kill someone, make sure they're dead, Hawke! I realize he had no pulse and wasn't breathing, but that's beside the point!
  • Janika - How art thou so easily brainwashèd?
  • Corypheus - ...
  • the Old Gods - Just had to motivate them into going for the Black City, didn't you?
  • Sebastian Vael - Once again I blame Sebastian for not praying enough. This is his punishment.
  • demons - Should've made more effective blood magic for Malcolm to use.
  • Varric - You could've warned them! Not that it would've done much, but hey, I'm just looking for people to blame.
  • Inquisitor - If you had just died like you were supposed to we wouldn't have to bother with all this fighting crap. We could just accept our inevitable demise, cuz that's always good.
  • the writers of DA:I - They were the ones who went and wrote it this way.
  • the mages and templars - Couldn't have held off your war a little while longer? Had to make s**t more difficult for everybody?
  • Matsuda from Death Note - Everything always seems to end up being his fault for some reason.

But this isn't about who to blame for the Blights. :P

And you take that back! Krem, Dorian, and Fenris are awesome!

Hawke: You may be the snarkiest snark ever, but man you are incompetent.

Varric: Varric, I love you, but you need to investigate stuff a little more before you send expeditions into the Deep Roads or break into a Grey Warden prison.

Bartrand: Yeah, sure, bring the red lyrium to the surface, why don't you? What could possibly go wrong?

Anders: Blowing up a church does not make things better.

Meredith: Dictatorship and mass genocide do not make things better.

The Maker: If you exist, then dude, you are the worst deity ever.

Andraste: Next time you overthrow mages, you might wanna phrase your victory speech a little better. Just to ensure their descendants and your church don't go to war.

Dumat: Why did you think it was a good idea to ask your servants to enter the Golden City?

Corypheus: Why did you think it was a good idea to try and enter the Golden City?

Fen'Harel: Why did you think it was a good idea to give Corypheus what he needed to rip open the Fade?

Corypheus is one of them,so it applies.

And yeah, not all vints are that bad. Still funny to tease them though

I laughed when Krem told Iron Bull that they'd already opened the casts, and Bull was like: Well seal them again. You're a Tevinter. Try blood magic. XD

Flemeth/Mythal for giving the orb to Solus.

Solus for giving the orb to corypheus.

Hawke for releasing corypheus, but could still have been Flemeth/Mythal machinations.

Corypheus is a bad guy, but he was sealed away and only escaped because hawke released him, who was only alive because of Flemeth

I blame the grey wardens recruitment policy. "recruit everyone who can fight, no matter what educational background and moral grounds" is not a good policy.

They end up with asses and idiots on the top, people who can't think of anything else other than the whole grey wardens make the "hard choices". Makes it easier for them to choose the hard and fast way instead of the right way. It makes them so much like Cerberus from ME.

The people of ancient Tevinter. If you'd just fed Corypheus some more grapes and sacrificed more chickens to the old gods, you wouldn't have made the guy feel unappreciated. Then maybe he wouldn't go 'proving' himself to his god stomping around the Fade...

Blame the wardens who visited the Architect, if he hadnt learnt of the location of Urmathemiel then the fifth blight wouldn't have happened and cory would still be stuck.

I'm going to blame the Grey Wardens for this mess, They should've known that keeping Cory as a prisoner was only a temporary fix and they should've prepared better for the possibility of their corruption, especially with they way they recruit people and their connection to the Blight..

Loghain.

Because everything is his fault, and no thread about blame is complete without a mention of him. :P

Gonna put my answer in a spoiler just in case someone is reading this who hasn't reached that point in the game.  Major spoiler in there--there's the obligatory warning, open at your own risk.

I blame the Elder One because:

The ancient elves! They created all the powerful old magics that the Tevinters then buggered about with and eventually caused the first blight.

As for the civil war, the templars were to harsh and backed the mages into a corner, just one two many injustices.
I guess there's also an argument for blaming the original inquisition (the seekers) as they came up with a flawed system :S

They couldnt kill him though. Seeing as he controls them and jumps to another warden

Yeah they have some blame, although with Immortality comes with a long view and I guess humans were too quick (i.e shortlived) for them to notice until it was too late.

Obviously, it's the Warden's fault. I'm not even kidding. How hard would it be to put up a sign that says "Warning: One-way barrier, do not cross under any circumstances"? Cory got let out of the bottle because the idiot wardens' idiot prison trapped that idiot Hawke. One goddamn sign and none of this would've happened.
