Yeah, but then again we don't know why he did it. He said something along the lines of "It wasn't supposed to happen like this."

What I find interesting is that Varric really blames Anders for the mage rebellion, and not even all of us do, since it would have inevitably happened anyway (though, admittedly, Anders certainly sped up the process). "Mages and templars everywhere. Great job, Blondie." And then Hawke says something like, "I believe he said something about 'cleaning up Blondie's mess."

Oh, trust me, I hate Anders, too.  You know, because he's a mass murderer who blows up churches.  He stole any hope of peace when he killed hundreds of people to get his ideals across.  I can certainly lay the current mage/templar war at his feet.

But I can't really blame him for the sky being ripped open.

Yup. For that we have the DA2 thread I linked at the beginning. One of the rules there is that you can't blame Anders because it's too obvious. XD

I blame the Qunari.  They know how to deal with mages.  If  they hadn't been totally incompetent and actually managed to conquer all of Thedas, they would have found the prison and done what they do best.  Yep.  Blame Sten.

I've read all the books, and, when playing the game last night, I spoke to Cole about the events of Asunder. I exhausted all dialogue options, since I loved knowing what he was talking about, little things like the cabinet/cupboard that other people wouldn't understand. When talking to him and hearing all of what he had to say, it mad me realize just how large an effect he had. I mean:

  • he killed mages, which led to mass suspicion towards Rhys
  • Adrian eventually uses this opportunity to kill Pharamond, which basically triggers the rebellion
  • Cole kills Seeker Lambert. If he hadn't done this, then Larius wouldn't have taken over, and this might have made for a lot less difficulty when the Inquisitor was dealing with the templars
