I just imprisoned one of the guys from The Western Approach but when I went down to the prison just to see if he was there, I saw him in the cell but the guard says "no one to watch over sir, we either have too many friends..." etc etc.
Is the Skyhold prison broken? I thought we were allowed to give the prisoners a "re-trial" and have other options?

Yeah same, i imprisoned the red templar leader and he never shows up in my prison, somehow the guard dissapeared aswell.
I have the same problem. I have a prisoner but I can't interact with him, and the guard says there are no one to watch over

I don't think we are meant to interact with the prisoners, but if for example you choose to imprison everyone you judge, then I guess the prison guard will change her dialogue.

Did you check the second room? He is in the cell in the room where the floor and wall is partially collapsed, and you can see the Frostback mountains.
I had a strange guy in my prison , someone I never judged , he asked me a riddle and then made wind sounds and said he was going to disappear.
He wasn't there when I went back.
Otherwise yeah the guard says there no one when there's some people in there.

i had the same guy but he was never in the prison. he was hiding behind the stables....asked me the riddle then i couldn't speak to him again. when i left for a mission and came back he was just gone
I have one guy in my prison and I have no idea who it is, and consider who I imprisoned that shouldn't be the case.

It's may be a dull question, but where can I find a prison in Skyhold? Is it somehow marked on the map? I remember prison in Haven, it was in the Chantry, but Skyhold is too big, and I think I missed that part.

Interesting... not the prison or stables, but I found that guy hiding in my Inquisitors bedroom. Needless to say, it was kinda creepy. XD

Yup, got a Venatori mage in my cells, but the guard says no one to watch over. before that had someone i dont remember jailing and same comment from guard.

I've never seen anyone down there, despite typically saving up all my judgements. It's a complete ghost town in those cells.

Me too, I haven't always looked for everyone but I never saw Alexius, Samson or Florianne down there. Even if the Quizzy mentions Alexius being there to Dorian.

The dungeon is accessible from outside in the courtyard. You can sort of see the entrance behind the Inquisitor in this screenshot:
