What? I'm not angry. Anger has nothing to do with gaming. Stereotyping Much?
Why are gamers so angry?

It's not just gamers but all media altogether. Half of it justified, the other half is irrational sometimes. Gamers, music fans and movie fans make for the biggest whiners. I made a thread about this some while ago too.
I think part of it is that we're spoilt and we've played so many good games and expect better, the other hatred comes from companies screwing us over. These hatreds I can understand and we've all shared them, I'm sure. However, some of the hatred is just irrational especially when gamers start threatening the developers themselves because they were expecting too much or their own perfect game (i.e "pls bioWAER y u mak codex on humin sexuality in thedas i fin d ir childis! i hat u!").
Myself? I make a few snarky comments about companies that I don't like (Bethesda, Ubisoft etc) but I move on and don't spend my entire life trolling their forums, stalking their developers or engaging in public campaigns against them as some gamers do against companies they hate. Leave a bad review and move on.
Look at what happened to Bioware upon release of DA2. Some people just had way too much time on their hands like that mangiraffedog who thought his spamming across the forums 24/7 from his parent's basement would "destroy" Bioware for releasing DA2. He eventually got IP blocked and rage quitted the internet last I heard. My agents tell me that he's now in some mental asylum still plotting his revenge against David Gaider for "ruining Zevran's face" lol.
DA2 was an average game for me, enjoyable at times, atrocious at others but for the entertainment alone it produced, it got a 10/10 from me.

I don't think Gamers are angrier than any other type of people, but like in any group the angry ones are the loudest so you noticed them more.

At least we don't throw riots when our favorite pro gamers lose a competition. Admittedly that's mainly because that would involve going outside.. And there's a giant ball of fire in the sky out there, also wolves.

McIntosh is a well known "social justice" agitator and Anita Sarkeesian's boyfriend/co-producer. Take that for what it's worth.

I suppose that's quite true. The smallest groups are always the vocalist on the internet unfortunately.

I don't know if they are any more or less angry than they've always been, you could find console fanboy wars in the 90s with Sega Genesis and SNES just like you can find spew now with XB1 and PS4, whatever.
The only thing I've noticed that's different is because of inter-connectivity it's increasingly difficult to find calm places away from it all. Like if Bioware was a small company that made games, they made at least 4-5-6 until they hit Mass Effect mega-mainstream popularity. Now, if you take something like Witcher, it was only a game and a half basically before they were accelerated to full hit every sector money type game. If some insanely obscure game in the past was popular it wasn't getting to discovered for a long time, now they're everywhere. Obviously, it's possible enough to just ignore it but it's unfortunate because it starts to affect the amount and types of games you get to play. Actually, now games like Journey or something are just announced to be the successful independent thing before they even are successful.
This leads to a growing conflict between the grubby gimme gimme everything now types and people who are just trying to have a calm entertainment moment. Other contributing factors are social presence.
I mean there have always been girl gamers, for instance, but you didn't have to experience the same degree of vitriol because there was no expectation of having an online presence or stuff like that. Most games you could buy at a local video game store, take it back, pop it in, and just play. I don't know what made all this other crap like having an online presence or account and blegh so popular, but you could argue it honestly probably was people wanting to hurl those insults in the first place that led to these "requirements."
Anyway, eventually hopefully people will realize that this is stifling, not enabling, and there were be less accounts and sign-ins and just general rapid transferrence of every thought across the internet, more making video games for people to play. It's sad too because the stuff that does make stuff for just video games, like the Wii U, isn't as popular.
There are dozens of other things going on, such as the extreme popularity of stuff like CoD which for anyone that played CoD doesn't really offer much in terms of new gameplay and certainly not story wise. However, I'd still say the problem is more the relentless assault made possible by online media. In 1995, the only way to really insult someone's game design ability or whatever was to send a letter or something and by the time the person probably got it they didn't care anymore.
TLDR: The requirements for social presence/being available/connectivity/discussing every detail/checking out some girl/guy on twitch have overtaken actual game-making in many areas which has simply made it more difficult to have fun.

A wise man once said, hate was created to teach humans how to love. If only we would love what we love with as much passion as those who hate what they hate.

I wonder this myself.
Maybe it has to do with ages and how serious they play. Most older gamers I know are pretty chill, however the younger ones usually get pretty worked up and pissed off over the smallest things.
My friends and I don't really give a s***, we just love trolling those angry kids over the internet.
