Would be a valid reason to be angry.

You have to realize gamers in general have no life and nothing really meaningful to worry about so their games become the most important thing in their worlds, of course they are going to get angry if they lose.

The flip side of that being some of us do have lives, and get upset when the 1-2 hours (tops) of free time we get a day to game is spent troubleshooting and dealing with customer support (often because of anti-consumer practices like DRM)
Like I got DA:I a week ago and I haven't even had a chance to play yet, and not because I haven't tried, because *game crash* *game crash* *game crash* *spend a whole night updating my drivers and game crash* I like what little time I have to enjoy myself is almost entirely spent dealing with technical difficulties, which seems to have become the standard for many companies nowadays. It gets to the point where I just say **** it and decide I'd rather watch a couple episodes of OitNB S2 after work, seeing as how that just takes a few clicks to work and never crashes on me, rather then spend it trying to get something that was broken right from the start working, which very possibly may not even end up working.
And of course my response to that should be "well I'm just glad EA has my money at least
" in the eyes of many people here.
A lot of people rag on the gamers who don't have lives for bitching, but the thing is for the people who do have lives it's even more frustrating, because you're wasting what little free time you have to mess around and relax dealing with some of these issues. With gaming I think there's this kind of unsaid excuse floating around that since it falls in the entertainment category that the standards are allowed to be much lower for the products and how the consumers are treated in general. I really can't think of anything I could spend my money on entertainment wise that has lower standards then games as a whole, and of course the moment you say anything you get shot down as being "some angry gamer with no life"

A better question would be why do people generalize so much?

I can't speak for everyone of course, but to me the industry has become far too mainstream and commercial. Huge companies like Activision, EA, and Ubisoft saturate the market with annual AAA titles (a good chunk of them FPS games) and buy out smaller studios to commercialize their IPs, usually at the expense of quality. This is not something new to the industry of course but it does seem much worse than it was in the '90s and early '00s.
And to rub salt in the wound the industry is also becoming increasingly politicized. Where once was a simple medium of entertainment is now a battleground for "social justice." Activist groups and individuals - a number of which don't even play games themselves - have seen fit to try and dictate the development of intellectual properties they don't own, and developers and the gamer community at large are under constant fire for perceived slights against "disadvantaged" groups.
All of this just kinda turns me off to gaming as a whole. I generally only buy a few games per year and play older titles most of the time, and I never buy AAA games. The industry can keep their Assassin's Creeds and Maddens. I know where to go if I wanna play good games.

Could go into a long comment on the psychological and cultural reason for why they are so angry all the time......
But instead I'm going to joke and say it's all the mountain Dew, Doritos and energy drinks gamers likes scarf down.(Which is probably a factor anyway, but meh)

And why I wonder, on the politicization thing. It's just very strange, I can't remember that being a part of gaming but it's like all of a sudden oh my god this is all so bad or something.

The two things I mentioned are related I believe. Gaming has become a worldwide, multibillion dollar industry and a pastime (and even a lifestyle) for large swaths of the population. And as such it is also an excellent tool for distributing propaganda and is being used to great effect to that end as we can see.
Certainly Jon McIntosh and his partner-in-crime (and any backers they might have) seek to utilize the industry for such a purpose and have been fairly successful thus far. It will not stop anytime soon.

I don't even know how to handle this. Thank the gaming lords he's not a developer. Then again, if he was, I doubt he'd be able to hack it for long.

I like to think that the majority of gamers are, for the most part, FPS gamers. Of course, this doesn't include all the facebook/social media games that are out there, but ehh.
The main reason why, I'll say a lot of them, they are angry is because a game doesn't have enough of X. Call this the X factor. X can equal graphics, atmosphere, difficult boss battles, open worlds, etc. It's like they are searching for the perfect game, and Y game had it.
It always makes me wonder why they aren't playing Y game. But that's another story.
EDIT : Also, IBTL (In Before The Lock).

I was going to say something Zoe Quinn related, but refrained for the interest of keeping this thread unlocked.
