I slogged around all of Thedas for my peeps; but did it actually matter in the end fight? Other than their thanks and maybe some influence points/power along the way, was there any other reason to do these quests?

I had the assumption that there would be a party battle at the end, or a choice, or something; that doing these quests would keep my party loyal, but no such moment appeared.. and now I wish I didn't look for Blackwall's last thing for 4 hours.

Thoughts?

If you're talking about those fetch quest missions then I think it's only purpose is to give you some approval.

Quests like Memories of the Grey are minor personal quests that really only get you approval. It's the major personal quests that will advance each companion's story and your relationship (if the companion is an LI). You will get more dialogue and probably a major cutscene (or cutscenes) when you're doing them.

For example, Blackwall's next personal quest called Revelations is the one that really matters - and I think you can only get it after the Hawke-related quest(s). At any rate, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to tell the difference between the two kinds of personal quests after you start it. And once you finish them, you might see your companion's card change to something else.
