Question:- Josephine or Cassandra ?

Answer:- Neither, both are unappealing. Bachelorquisitor is the best way to go.

My preference is Josephine as she is exactly what I've been hoping for in a LI since Dawnstar in Jade Empire. I've always preferred sweet, innocent love interests.

However you really can't go wrong with Cassandra, either, she starts out rough around the edges but she opens up and shows some vulnerability quickly and has her fair share of adorable moments.

I was leaning toward Josephine at the start of the game, however, very quickly I found out that I liked Cassandra better.

Playing a Qunari Mage that was not particularly religious and was pro-mage (because that's the only sensible choice of course... :P ),

did not harm the Cassandra romance arc in the slightest.

She is religious but not anti-mage. She does not agree with the way mages were treated before everything hit the fan.

It's too bad that Cassandra isn't a romance option for female PCs. I really like her. But Josephine is so adorable and has that irresistible accent.

Based on my very limited knowledge, Cassandra seems too "religious" to me. I'm an atheist in real life, and my Warden and Hawke don't believe in the Maker as a supreme god. My Inquisitor will also share this belief. Cassandra, therefore, probably won't like me very much, and I'll likely have issues with her.

This actually won't be much of a problem. Just don't be a dick about it and you'll be fine. You'll get more approval by siding with her on other issues.

Why are (apparently) so many people turned off by Cassandra being religious (not that she's even very religious at all, other than simply believing in the Maker and believing you to be the Herald, like 90% of the rest of the population of Thedas)? She by no means shoves it in your face or tries to convert you. I'm atheist in real life, but I have no problems with my Catholic or Jewish friends.

So a pro-mage atheist isn't going to be a turn-off for Cassandra? That's a little surprising. I think Josephine is more attractive, but I suppose that Cassandra can grow on me. I like the idea of a sweet romance with Josephine, but I'm under the impression that her romance is a bit ambiguous as to whether she is sexually active with you. I hate admitting this, but it does bother me. I want to know, without a doubt, that my Inquisitor is having sex with his girlfriend.

Before i got the game i thought i would go for Josephine because like you my only options are Cassandra and her , she looked the hottest so of course i'd go for her right? wrong , Cassandra's got the type of beauty i cannot explain , she just pulls you in with her personality , i romanced her in my first playthrough , started a second playthrough guess what ? im romancing her again lol i'll watch Josie's romance on youtube if i get curious.

Well, I'd never end up playing a male Quizzy, but yes, I was not impressed by Cass at first as well (though I do not find Jo to be that much hotter, I admit) ...

There is indeed something about Cass' righteousness, her straight-to-the-point and no-nonsense attitde, her honour and her principles...that makes me really like her, and trust her

It's a bit like Brienne of Tarth ... she might not be pretty in a Barbie-fashion-model-kinda-sense, but its hard not to get impressed by her. Together with Solas and Sera she is among my top three of companions at this moment (haven't finished the game yet though)

Considering that Cassandra is an NPC in a game where relationships are determined by a plus or negative "approval" rating, no, it wouldn't be a turn off for her. Being pro-Mage has nothing to do with anything anyway, she even advocates the mages over the Templars. She only takes notice when you give them free reign in Haven/Skyhold.

People aren't a simple numbers game like these characters are.

Cassandra. Josephine sounds like the secretary of a Bond villain. Don't trust her.

One other reason to do Josie is that Cassandra's romance can end up semi-compromised at the end depending on your choices (Think Alistair becoming king and how that could potentially mess things up with a female Warden). There are ways through it, but some people don't like that sort of drama.

It's really not that hard. Just take choices to ensure she doesn't become divine throughout the game, and tell her to disband the seekers. Nothing to it really. More information in my signature for those who'd like.

I love romances where you break someone's ice-cold attitude and soothen them up and get to see their tender side. Cassandra was a good choice for me, although I wish she wouldn't be so formal with her "Seeing you warms the heart"

I love her chemistry with snarky Inquisitor though and I especially enjoyed the early reactions to flirting.

Both at the same time they do not have to know of each other relationship with the man they love.

I want to like Josephine's too but... I like my romance scenes naked :P

Glad Bioware finally grew a pair since they chickened out after the Mass Effect sex debate.

So do I. I'm glad that while my Inquisitor can't initiate an actual romance with Cassandra, yet the chemistry is still clearly there.

1.) Josphene's romance scene is debatabely the most mature and compelling romance scene in the game.Yes, it has no sex and nudity.Maker forbid a good romance scene without sex! (sarcasm)

2.) Just because you yourself have a certain sex/sexuality/religion doesn't mean you can't experience stories through the eyes of someone else.No one is forcing you to do so, just some friendly advice.

So when it comes to explicit romance scenes, the most explicit is Sera, and the least are Solas and Josephine? Is this correct?

I really don't think it's anything like that to be honest, seems like you're forcing real world religious issues into the game when there really is none.  Anyway she really is THAT religious though, she relates EVERYTHING back to the chantry and the maker, she has devoted her life to it, as she stated a couple times in the game.  I think that is what most people mean is all, not that she's forceful about it or anything, but in the past couple games (DA:O in particular) you usually played as a character who's custom it was to not believe in the maker (dalish, dwarf, and humans and city elves had the options not too) and the chantry has always been kind of looked down upon in the writing of the other games (rarely dealt with it in DA:O and when you did it was usually to laugh at it, and in DA:2 it was an obstacle of corruption and even annoyance in terms of Sebastian).  So when this one character will not stop talking about it like it's fact, whether she's forcing it on you or not, it might get annoying to some people because they've spent so long believing it was a farce and entirely laughable.

I personally do not mind it in Cassandra, even though the whole "chosen of andraste" thing was kind of annoying, but it's easy to understand why it could get too annoying to romance her.

Anyway, to the OP:

I was torn as well at the start of the game, both Cass and Josie were quite appealing in different ways, but I ended up going for Cass IMMEDIATELY as I saw the book scene!  Josie seems too straight forward for me, basically as soon as the romance starts you can kind of predict how the entire thing will work out, even the "twist" or complication was kind of obvious too me.  Then on the other hand Cass is this hard warrior woman who seems so unbreakable and unyielding but it turns out she's an incredible romantic and extremely adorable if you catch her "out of character."

I'd like to romance Serra or the Iron Bull as well (as a female quizzy ofc) just to compare, mainly cause Serra is very unique and I'm entirely curious as to what a romance would entail with her, and the Iron Bull is probably the most enjoyable party member in this game, in my opinion ofc lol

But yeah if you like the more straight forward "sweet" romance type then Josie is a better choice, where as if you like the more complicated romances then Cass would fit your bill.

I was also torn before playing. After seeing Josie deal with some guy at the beginning I decided to go with her. I don't regret it, I'm enjoying her romance. After seeing the book scene I've decided to play one game for Cass. Probably the next one as I sided with the mages this time and want to see how the templar path plays out.

but your the bond villain  :P

I'm going with both cause though I went with josephine first I was always planning trying one with cass.

and yes josephine really straight forward with no major drama. this is a plus, not negative. don't get me wrong the angsty one are good too but it is rather nice for no one in the ship needing to be "fixed." and a few parts are rather funny.

I'm trying to avoid big spoilers, so I don't want a detailed answer here, but does Cassandra ever reach a point where she questions her devotion to the Chantry? I suspect that her leaving the religion is too unrealistic, but can you at least plant significant doubt in her mind?
