I'm trying to avoid big spoilers, so I don't want a detailed answer here, but does Cassandra ever reach a point where she questions her devotion to the Chantry? I suspect that her leaving the religion is too unrealistic, but can you at least plant significant doubt in her mind?

She does question it on multiple occasions, yes. But ultimately she sticks with it. You don't plant any doubt though, its sort of her reaction to some of the things that have happened around her. She doesn't stop being a believer in the maker though.

There is a reason why she's called the Disney Princess of DA

I'm sorry? Josie is bi-sexual. It is clearly stated, in the game, that she's been sleeping with Leliana. The fact that she doesn't have a sex scene doesn't mean that sex is not taken into consideration with the character. Honestly I prefer when there's no sex scene and not because I don't like sex (trust me on this): I just find them a little awkward and untasteful. I still remember the sex scene between Leliana and my female dwarf in Origins and... <shivers> some things are better left to imagination, I think. I liked the way they were handled in Da2, though. Aside from the Merril "blood mage bikini" thing.
Still, I don't understand why Josephine would be a "Disney princess". Care to explain?

You sure about that? I saw people state that it wasn't the case, even her writer apparently. Their relationship is big/little sister.

I'm pretty sure that's the rumor around Skyhold. Of course rumors can be wrong. When I asked Leliana she wasn't straightforward about it, as you might expect. If the writers denied it, of course I stand corrected.

No it isn't. Both ingame by Josephine and out of game by Sheryl Chee who writes Leliana it is stated that Josephine and Leliana have never slept together. In fact, Josephine has never slept with anyone.

It was a no-doubt thing, for me. Thanks for the correction. :-)

You're welcome. Glad I could help clear that up for you that they are just close friends with a sister-like bond and not former lovers. :)

Nothing forges a stronger bond of sisterhood than an undergarment nailed to a Chantry board.

That was hilarious. My favourite quote from Leliana so far.

Actually, I hadn't considered this: What are Josephine's beliefs?

Josephine seems to be Andrastian as well.

Okay. Well, that makes it easier to accept Cassandra then. It's not like I'm making a political or religious statement by romancing either one.

I romanced Cass as a non believer in the maker, so it's definitely doable. She even mentions it from time to time, but she is still romanceable.

Yes, she will have moments when she feels conflicted about her devotion to the seekers and also chantey iirc, so you get to help her from her opinion.

I know for a fact you can convince her to let the seekers go, but I don't think you can do that with her faith.

Just don't romance anybody if you are so serious about letting a game change your mind about religion. The only non-andrastian romances are Ironbull, Sera, Solas.

The more I've read about the two women (while trying to carefully navigate Spoiler Land), the more I think that Josephine really is more of my type. A cute and intelligent diplomat is an appealing idea for me. When I finally get around to playing Inquisition (I'm gradually re-playing the whole series), it's likely that I'll end up with Josephine. However, I really wish that she had a sex scene. Or more like, an after-sex scene. Sex is an extremely important aspect of the human experience, and I like exploring it in stories that let me role-play. I'm very disappointed that this is all left ambiguous with Josephine while the other characters actually do get something. If we ever get a Citadel-esque DLC for Inquisition that allows us to interact more with our companions, I hope that we finally get a sex scene with Josephine. I want my Inquisitor to have that form of intimacy with her, and I want to experience some of it, not just leave it open to interpretation.

Skyhold clearly needs a mudpit where the two can... uh...

Personally, I'm going to be trying out both romances with my "official" Inquisitor (the one I would carry over in my world state). I originally went for Josephine and found it lacking but I seem to have missed some scenes so that's going to be a bit of a redo.

As for Cassandra, I can't really say for sure since I'm only just going to be trying out her romance on my current playthrough. I'm not sure just how religious she is so I guess it's going to depend on how well she meshes with my Dalish Inquisitor who follows the Elven Pantheon and (at this point) keeps denying that he's the Herald.

I just got into Skyhold a few hours gametime ago, but that's after 90 hours trying to complete everything I could to that point (won't do that again btw), so I'm doing a lot of Skyhold stuff, and I just had my first kind of date scene with Josephine. I think it's good so far. This is the first I've heard of there not being a love scene with her though. That really sucks, honestly, unless there's a very good, clear character reason for it. She's one of only two options for straight male or lesbian Inquisitors, so if it really does leave things 'ambiguous', that's really not fair. It absolutely does detract from her romance as an option if that's the case. But personally, I'm enjoying her character, and I'm going to stick with her for my first playthrough. I'm kind of dreading whatever ambiguity I'm going to be stuck with later though. I agree they need a scene in dlc if that's true about the vanilla game, because it is important.

I'm going to eventually play them both (along with Sera, Solas, and probably Iron Bull with female Quizzies), but Cass seems like very much the same character from her movie, if that helps. My Quizzie flirted with all the women at first, and then when he didn't continue that with Cass later on, her dopey cutesiness came through in how she walked away, so she's not all the hard front she puts up. She's likable under the shell. I just never really found her all that interesting though. I just don't like that type. Like I said though, my game is still early days.

Cass, Jojo's romance is boring as hell. I ended up getting plowed by Dorian in my second playthrough because Jojo was so lame. SHE TURNED MY QUIZ GAY.

To the OP romance Cass you won't be disappointed, she's a long way from the religious person she appears to be at the start, the characterisation is outstanding. Whereas you may be disappointed by Josie.

Cass is very attractive, so she has a scar so what.
