All characters look better for me, except female Hawke, so yeah, they should make her look as she did in DA2 if they couldn't make her better.
Am I the only one who's noticed the Default Face for female Hawke is completely different in DA:I?

Leliana looks nothing like her old self. Neither do Alistair and Anora. Cullen got a makeover too. I'd say all characters except for Varric are nearly unrecognizable.
I think Leliana looks pretty similar on the last-gen consoles. Alistair looks appropriately older, and yeah I agree with Anora haha.

no problems with how s/he looks, tbh i think the default looks awesome, but as BioWare is well aware they will never please everyone and ppl will always find something to moan about
This isn't some little nitpick like "Oh the blood smear is bigger". This is a case of Hawke walking on screen and me responding "Who the hell is that?"
I'm all for updating the characrer models. As I said, Varrick, Cassandra and Leliana all look just like updated versions of how they always looked. They're very solidly the same people they were in previous games. But what's the point in bringing Hawke back if she's just going to look completely different? As New Kid pointed out, they rendered her to look exactly the same as she did in DA2 in the DA:I trailer she's in, so it's clear they still acknowledge that as her default look. So why the heck change it so drastically in game? It's just jarring and bizzare. Like if Ash/Kaiden showed up in ME3 and instead of just having a new haircut, they had an entirely different person's face as well. It's weird and alienating.

Me too, but if she didn't have the blood smear, short hair and iconic champion armor I'm not sure I would have ![]()
I like her new face just as much, and my canon Hawke has a custom face so it doesn't bother me, but OP has a point. I think Leliana looks different in dai though. The hair is the same, but her features just look.. off. The nose/mouth area. I don't know. The plasticky skin texture doesn't help. No big deal either way.

Right! ![]()
Leliana's face is too pointed now. It's like she has the same jaw line as Solas, which is also very pointed...it's like the bottom half of their faces are inverted triangles. Leliana's face wasn't shaped like that before and that is what I have trouble getting used to. ![]()

New engine.
Can someone explain how "new engine" makes it impossible to even come close to the facial and hair meshes of the original characters? Seriously, esp. with Hawke, which as he/she came down the stairs was supposed to be a big "reveal", ends up not be a big reveal because you don't even recognize the generic npc that was revealed. Really the fem Hawke esp. was a totally generic npc, as was Alistar. It's like they didn't even try to match the characters. And yes it is a big deal these are ICONIC characters. You can't just change Commander Shepard or any of the crew without a well deserved **** storm hitting you, what makes them think they can get away with it in DA? ICONIC CHARACTERS, ICONIC HAIR. It was one of my many, many disappointments with this game.

Because it renders things differently. Besides you customise Hawke in DA2 so they let you customise Hawke again

You only customize Hawke if you wish to, otherwise you go with the default. Saying "because it renders things differently" unfortunately is not a great explanation. That goes without saying. But what we are talking about here are what seem to be simple meshes. Does anyone have any more insight into why it is so difficult on the new engine?

because it's a new engine. See how you recreate shepard in each Mass Effect

Eh, Shepard's a bit different, since you can at least import a custom appearance. It's just that ME3 didn't do this particularly well.

The best I found was this: http://imgur.com/a/KENNB (in Solas thread, no less)
And yes, I realize this is pretty bad case of thread necromancy.

I made Hawke look like Stroud, it was rather amusing. Either way Stroud dies.

Yeah, those cheekbones and the jaw are weird. Too skinny and gaunt in DAI, her face was a bit fuller in DA2, which looks better imo.

No character in DAI looks exactly the same as in previous games. I like how they all look now, especially Alistair and Varric.

See, while I can buy that some people might not want the same hairdo for over ten years... it makes no sense because the messy hairstyle that does look like Hawke's hair in DA2, actually is used on the default Male Hawke? So why not give the same hairstyle to Fem!Hawke?
And it does amuse me that barely anyone recognised Alistair when the Enemy of Thedas trailer came out, even I didn't and upon reflection, I don't actually think he looks all that different in the actual game to how he did in Origins?

He looks appropriately older, which is why I like it. Same nose, eyes, lips though
Cullen is probably the only one who got a complete face lift, because he was never planned to survive DAO, and even there you can find a slight familiarity if you look hard enough.

I never used the default Hawke in DA2. And made my Own....

In DAI , I'm too lazy to play with the cc and add the Limit with hair...I didnt bother and just went with default Hawke . And I think she is Gorgeous ![]()
I just wish when I pick HUMOurus in the Keep..it actually make her funny not angry ![]()

The main problem is not only the change to a whole new engine, but the fact that Dragon Age hasn't had a real consistent art style throughout its life. Sure, it's not as drastic and dramatic as the Origins-to-Kirkwall jump, but it's still there. And when art styles change, characters change. Unfortunately.
