Was Hawke supposed to be the Inquisitor? *Spoilers*

Then we have the whole Cass interrogating Varric in DA2 and now the revelation that they were looking for the Warden and later Hawke to be the Inquisitor. Since the first can be dead it makes sense it would be Hawke, and if my memory works well early in development they said the Inquisitor would only be human, like Hawke. Could it be that the original idea was for DA2 to be the Origin (like in DAO) of Hawke and Inquisition the main campaign?
The thought ocurred to me while replying in another thread, and it just clicks. Maybe I'm talking out of my arse but since it clicks, I thought it'd be worth posting it.

I don't think it was the original idea.... in game though, according to Cass, Hawke was supposed to be the inquisitor indeed.

But personally I never much cared for the official leadership that DAI presents with the inquisitor. I prefer the silent and symbolic role you had in DAO and in DA2, you are a leader of your group and a symbol to the cause but hats it. .

The thing is that either Hawke or Warden Could easily jump in as the role inquisitor. I don't feel like the inquisitor right now is very special that the role is tied to him/her precisely. Bioware could easily put either Hawke or Warden in the role and it would work.
Hawke, yea. The Warden, not so much.

I actually do believe Hawke would have been the main character for any eventual DA3 had DA2 been better received. But I do not believe they ever intended Hawke to be the Inquisitor. Cassandra mentions something about having wanted Hawke to be the Inquisitor, but I think this was more a list ditch effort on BioWare's part to make Hawke somehow relevant in any way possible beyond having brought Flemeth back to life and/or answer the unanswered question of why Cassandra was looking for Hawke in the first place.

I'm thankful they did not. The Inquisitor is a much better character then Hawke or The Warden.

I guess Hawke as Inquisitor could've worked if DA2 was better received. As the person who "supposedly" started the Mage-Templar War, they can have Hawke attends the Conclave to help, and just replace Hawke with the Inquisitor from there.
Consider that of all the 3 protagonists, the Inquisitor is the only one who has some special abilities, stolen if you ask Cory, I think not. The Warden got recruited because of his/her skills, while Hawke rise to become Champion, even if it took quite a while, with his/her power.I'm thankful they did not. The Inquisitor is a much better character then Hawke or The Warden.

Had DA2 not been criticized for its repeated dungeons, I guaruntee that Hawke would have become Dragon Age's Shepard. I mean, he was kind of groomed to be the Inquisitor in 2. He was there when it all started, makes sense he would be the one to see it finished. AND he fought Corypheus, so it was personal.
But I think Bioware wanted to start fresh because one they were afraid of more DA2 related criticism, and two they wanted to implement multiple races to make their world a bit more interesting.

I think they should have had a Hawke option for those who wanted Hawke as Inquisitor. Nothing much would have changed.

I doubt Hawke was going to be a main playable character after DA2 went as well as a rowboat in a hurricane
He might have been early early early on in development, but I'm sure they wanted a clean(ish) slate for their new game

Dragon Age isn't Mass Effect each game is a standalone with references to other DA media with it's own protagonist. Bioware has been telling us this since the whinging about the Warden not being the pc of DA2 kicked off.

...honestly, I love 'em and all, but I think both my Hawke and my Warden would have made terrible Inquisitors. :S

That would have been stupid, and I hve a negative view of Cassandra for even considering the idea.
"We need you, the guy disliked and mistrusted by 1 of the 2 factions involved in this mage-templar war to solve it and bring peace. You the guy who failed to prevent its escalation initially, and failed to prevent the escalation with the Qunari, You the guy with no leadership skills beyond a small ragtag team of yours. to run our entire organisation because reasons"

So did stolen powers also make Inquisitor extremely proactive, very intelligent and a good leader? I think not.
Also the Warden has "speical powers, being able to sense darkspawn and being able to kill the arch-demon counts, just like every warden and please, half the recruitment Duncan did was just plain luck or such reeked of contrivance.

The Warden can be proactive to an extent at least, poor Hawke had to wait till DAi to at last get her **** together.

I absolutely agree. I have way more of an attachment to my Inquisitor than I ever did to Hawke. Hawke just felt so limited. The Inquisitor has so many ways that s/he can be played. I'm loving my qunari Inquisitor.
The Warden is also an excellent character. But I'm thoroughly thrilled that the Inquisitor is not either of the two previous protagonists and, as much as I love him, I hope they continue the trend with a new protagonist for DA 4 too.

To me they're the same. I've decided to head cannon that the Inquisitor is my Warden.
