Several hours into ME2, autosave corrupted EVERYTHING on my memory card...which included my only copy of my ME1 character.

I do however have a "Mass Effect Importer" save file that shows my ME1 character data, can that be used to start a new game in ME2 somehow?

Major waste of time. I have the game, finished the 1st one 5 times, bout 10 hours away in my sixth go and can't even import. LAME! Really STUPID! You made a great game the first time around, promise a feature never seen before and then it turns out it's just talk because you forgot how to program. FUDGIN' IDIOTS!

I just wish someone from Bioware would reply. Then at least I know if I should wait for a patch, or that I should just start a 'clean' game.

I unfortunately can´t replay the battle against Saren, simply because I don´t have the first ME anymore.

Argh, this sucks! :crying:

The faulty import utility might not have been such an issue for everyone if we had just not bought any of the DLC and left our save files at the end of the game. I guess the lesson EA/Bioware want us to learn is never to buy their DLC until/unless they have finished the release of the final game in their story arc.

Any public relations expert would tell Bioware how to handle this situation:
Acknowledge the problem.
Apologize.
Repair the problem.
Redemption.

It's not a difficult formula. The problem seems to be that it requires leadership, which is apparently, and sadly, lacking atm.

Well put.
Let's make sure this thread stays up in the forum and keeps growing. EA/Bioware owe us at least some kind of acknowledgement that they did screw up.
Needless to say, they can forget me buying any DLCs or pre-ordering one of their upcoming games. I'll make sure first that what is advertized is indeed flawlessly delivered...

being told that you can keep your old character from me1 onto me2 is like taking a 5 yr old to a pet shop showing them a cute puppy, tellling them they can have it next week... but next week comes and the child asks where the puppy is, you tell them sorry we had to kill it.... It sucks and is so so so so not fair come on guys do something about it my 5 yr old inner child is broken !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kept my ME1 Save games and it also did not work.

I went back into ME1 and used the auto-save from the profile and ran through the end sequence again. The game auto-saves just after then while talking to Udina and Anderson for the last time. This is when you want to stop ME1 and try linking your game to ME2. That worked for me, but if I have to do this for all my characters, thats kinda sucks.

Well, actually my problem is worse. I do HAVE a finished lvl 60 save, but ME2 shows me that one in orange, not selectable. I tried multiple times to load the last autosave and beating again Saren, resulting in 3 more orange, not selectable lvl 60 saves. I also have to do another playthrough sometime (on insane, last achievement) but i am afraid that it won't work too...

I think I'm in the same boat or similar. I'm on the PC, I've played through Saren and let the end credits roll. My guy isnt even level 40 but I want to carry him over into ME2. There's nothing there in ME2 import, just an orange box. So, I decided I'll just start a new game in ME2. All the decisions I made in ME1 are opposite of ME2 default game. I did save the Council. I didn't save Ashley. etc. I'm pretty pissed. Now I'm just trying the copy ME1.save file over to ME2 save folder....Image IPBImage IPB Copying save file didnt work, or I did it wrong. Now I'll try Fireclown's workaround.

I wonder if we will soon hear anything from EA/Bioware. Such a problem is not something you could easily sweep under the carpet, expecting us to keep quiet.
We need a patch so we could import our ME1 Shepard to ME2 without having to finish our playthough again. Damn! I've been through ME1 twice already and don't intend to do it again.
Ackowledgement of the problem would at least go a long way...

This nice person was kind enough to collect ME1 savegames for we poor idiots, like me, who uninstalled and deleted our originals.

I found one that duplicated mine perfectly.

Nice indeed for PC users.
Now I'm waiting for Bioware to provide Xbox users with a patch... soon.

Yep, still foot-tapping here with everybody else. Check in here twice a day. Got all the enjoyment I could out of playing ME1, saved the 'verse, the council, Ashley, made hot girlie monkey love with her AND Smurfette and get this.

This is a load of schtuss.

Sup Guys!  I hope I can be of help.

Initially, I had the same problem.  Mass Effect 2 did not recognize ME1 when I was trying to import it.  There was no file to look at.  But, Just let me start explaining my situation as short and simple as possible.  This may apply to some of you.  My original 20 gigs 360 crapped out.  But, I had an Elite at my disposal, so I decided to transfer all my save game data from the 20 gigs to the Elite's 120 gigs (via memory unit), while my 20 gigs went for repair/exchange.  And what do you know, ME2 did not import ME1 saves. :(

Here's the solution that worked for me:

1. Load the last save you had for the ME1 game (hopefully it's the save right before the fight with Saren and the destruction of Sovereign).  Then, save it again at different save slot (while keeping the save slot you just loaded intact, in case something wrong happens).  I believe this most current save would be recognized by Mass Effect 2, because you are saving a ME1 save game while ME2 is already loaded onto your HDD.

2. Next, you're gonna have to play through the last fight with Saren and finish the game again (I think it took me about 30 minutes to do).  This sure beats playing through the whole game again.  Right after you beat Saren and Sovereign is destroyed; before the Alien Council appoints a Human on the Council, there is an automatic save.  I also believe that this is recognized by the ME2 importer.  Let the credits play all the way through (to be safe) until the ME1 main menu appears.

3. Now, I believe that you are ready to import ME1 profile into ME2 game.  You should finally see your John Sheppard file available.  One note, I believe that for those who want to use multiple playthroughs would have to repeat both steps for each one.  As for those who don't have ME1 available any more, I don't have a solution for you guys, sorry.  Hopefully, Bioware or EA has an update for that.

I hope this was helpful and good luck to all.  If you have any questions, let me know.

Now trying this guys adivce sans step one.  Skipping to step two, refighting Saren and letting the credits run through.  See if that helps.  If it does, then I'll repost success.  If not....what crap ea/bio.

Alright, is it just me or are you allowed to upload only ONE me1 playthrough into me2. My other toons show up on the list but only my first toon is selectable. I went ahead and beat saren again and let the credits run all the way through and still a no go. Hopefully I'll get a bug fix. Or maybe you have to beat me2 with your first upload in order to load another. Guess I'll find out soon enough since I'm almost finished with my first playthrough.

I don't have any problem although my XBOX 360 had the RROD last year and I got a new console.
You have to link your new console to the old gamertag, so that you can play your XBLA games offline, too.

http://www.xbox.com/...censemigration/

Maybe that's the reason that some people have problems with the import.

Most users have a problem with ME1 saves not showing in ME2 after starting a new playthough, starting any ME1 DLCs or changing console (even if the license has been properly migrated).
The problem is due to a faulty design. We need the save file exactly after beating Sareen. If we continued to play or were fool enough to download and play the DLCs, we're left with no way (at least for the XBox) to start ME2 with our old Shepard.
We need a patch. Badly.

If you were lucky enough to save right before the saren fight just go to that save in ME1 and re-beat the game. After that don't do anything. The save will now show up in ME2. I had to download the on-deman version on my 360 just to do this since I didn't have ME1 anymore.

Judging by the amount of responses and the various fixes people have used it is obviously a big bug in the game. I've tried all of these suggestions and still nothing works in my case. Only able to upload one save.
