I just finished ME1 a half hour ago...did the reload and beat Saren again. ME2 sees all my saves but only the first one on the list it will let me import. The problem with that is that it was my wife's character from 2 years ago. The really messed up part though...I deleted that saved game over a year ago...yet ME2 still found it...must be a ghost file. The only saved games listed on the memory HDD is the one from today,as far as the HDD is concerned the others don't exist. There is even a save from my original character from 2 years ago...it too was deleted over a year ago. You guys are talking about switching HDD's as a possible root of the cause...but try this on for size. Those ghost files were on a 20 GB HDD, they were deleted on that 20 GB HDD...since then I purchased a 120 GB HDD and did the transfer of all my HDD info to the 120 GB. So tell me why ME2 can find deleted files from a different HDD but it can't find current saved games or import the ones it can find.
If you can see the characters but they are listed in orange then all you have to do is use the DPad to scroll down. For some reason Bioware saw fit to disable the L and R stick on the ME1 Import Utility. Not sure if this helps I just thought I'd mention it as it seems to be tripping up a lot of folks
Still, Bioware should at least acknowledge the problem with the Import Utility not recognizing game saves and let us know they are working on it. So far they have been ignoring us, for all we know.

That doesn't change the fact that BioWare shouldn't have proclaimed that ME2 would import ME1 saves without also letting us know exactly what hoops we would have to jump through in order to enjoy the wonderful feature.
You would have traded/sold your game long before Bioware would have been able to say "Oh wait, don't sell your disk. We found and unforseen bug with the ME save import."
Reguardless this is still a bug that they are not avoiding since they put alot of hype into it in the first place. Trouble shooting a fix is not instant thing. This is a good group you just need to let them breath and they will do something. I'm no programer but I know enough about programing in general and to be aware that their is always unforseen issues.
You might even be able to blame some of it on microsoft's OS on the 360 for all we know. Does the PC version share this bug?
Still. Recognizing the fact there is a problem with the import feature goes a long way to show the kind of respect a company should owe to its customers. Being able to import your ME1 Shepard into ME2 was a strong and leading selling argument from Bioware/EA. I still have my game, but don't see myself going through yet another playthrough, just because I bought the ME1 DLCs and/or bought another Elite console. Thank you for punishing me for my loyalty as a Bioware/MS customer...
As for those not having ME1 anymore, buying it through Games on Demand may seem an acceptable alternative. However, shelling out yet another 30 euros (yes, GoD prices in Europe is an outright rip-off) just to have an ''advertized feature'' to work out as intended is simply the equivalent of bending over to get one's rear end kicked and kicked again.
Regarding the PC version, the bug is also present, but there is a save file Copy-Paste workaround (impossible for MS proprietary Xbox).
I can live with a product having a few bugs here and there, especially when it's a game of such epic proportions as ME2. What I won't accept as a customer is being ignored. Bioware/EA should:
- Acknowledge there is a problem with this feature.
- Apologize.
- State they're working actively to find a solution.
So far, this whole situation is just managed the EA style: Badly.

Everytime you beat ME1 a special end game save is created (right before the credits). This save is stored somewhere deep inside the Xbox's file system so you cannot manully extract/copy/move it without an HDD transfer kit. This however is the file used for importing your character.
So if you beat ME1 on HDD1 and move your gameprofile as well as all your saves to a MU you would not copy our special end game save. It would still remain on HDD1.
If you then copy your gamertag and save files from your MU to HDD2 you still cannot import a character in ME2. You'd have to load one of your close to end saves and beat ME1 again thus creating another special end game save on HDD2. And voila, you can import your character in ME2.
To check if you have the special end game save (since you cannot see it in the Xbox's dashboard) just start a new game on ME1 and select existing ID. If you are able to choose the character you want to import into ME2 you are good to go. Otherwise just beat the game again with a close to end save game.

Yes, this still needs to be addressed. The issue will not disappear simply because Bioware/EA refuses to acknowledge it. Bioware needs to release an updated Import Utility that does what the game advertised it to do.
And yet, their deafening silence about this issue leads me to think that they won't do anything about it...

Your save game file contains data from your play through but it looks like it don't contain information that says you finished the game. Which is why some people have said that they see characters that have been deleted. The information is in a different file and location than the save same file.
If you original save was on an MU try loading from that MU or get your old HDD and try to import it.
Edit: That is assuming you moved your save game from one storage device to another.
That might work assuming the source I read is correct.

Thank you so much for pointing that out. I don't know why the hell they disabled the L/R sticks for the import utility. As for the rest of you having worse luck than myself...I hope someone at EA/Bioware wakes up.

I'm sure they're fully awake. They're simply treating us EA style: ignoring us and sweeping the problem under the rug...
Basically, they just don't give a dam.

I made completely different, renegade choices with the female and I want to see how different ME2 is, but it seems I cant. Does anyone know why she wouldn't be showing up even in ME1??

I already completed ME2 once with a lvl 39 ME1 import, so starting any new game after that you get a bunch of bonuses (200k credits, 50k resources, bonus squad power). So when i solved my problem yesterday and managed to finally import my lvl 60 Shepard, that import bonus adds on to the aforementioned (Long Service) bonus. So I start off with lvl 5, 300ishk credits, 60k resources, bonus paragon/renegade, bonus squad power...you get the idea. Which was pretty cool. BUT after the first convo with the illusive man and the subsequent level-up, I leveled up to...level 2??? My credits and resources were knocked back down to 200k and 50k, respectively, lost my paragon/renegade bonuses...wtf. On one hand making back 4 levels, 100k, and 10k resources isn't too bad, but still wtf?! But luckily...
SOLUTION: To keep your import ME1 character bonus from disappearing, save the game once your character wakes up. If something happens and forces you to restart the game (power outage, gamertag sign-out, etc) and you load the autosave or restart the lab mission, you will lose that bonus. Loading your own aforementioned save will avoid this.

i had a different glitch flood i imported a lvl 60 and god 120,000 creds i was lvl 5 and i got 2500 of each resource
That actually sounds about right up until 2500 of each resource. If you didn't have the Long Service achievement already (requires you to beat ME2 twice or once with a ME1 import) a plain-old lvl 60 import should give you 50k credits (tho I think there is an additional monetary bonus if your old Shepard was bankrolling), 10k resources, and bump you to level 5. At least according to the ME wikia.
So...could you tell me more about your glitch? Did you already beat ME2 before and are wondering why you got shortchanged on the bonuses?

What I gather so far is that when people got a new xbox between ME1 and ME2 and they tried to transfer their old shepard over, ME2 fails to recognize any save game at all, doesn't recognize every one of them (and conveniently not the one you want to use), or it recognizes everything but for some reason you can't access the one you want...?
Forgive me if that was just repeating old info from 2 weeks and 10 pages ago...I have a lot of reading to catch up on.
