i don't know if i'm helping but i think the assumption that dlc, unfinished ng+ and hdd transfer are the cause of the problem isn't correct. i did all of those things and had no problem, all play thrus were available (except for the unfinished ng+, of course)
i had BDtS, did ng+ twice to completion, RRoD, got a new hdd (transfer kit), downloaded pinnacle station, did a ng+ to play pinnacle station and didn't finish the playthru.
that leaves as suspects for the cause file transfers without the kit and using a different gamertag, which we were warned about in advance.

How about clearing the cache?

I also experienced the dreaded RROD. The 360 I  originally played ME1 on is not the same one currently being used for ME2. I'm sure that's common for 360 owners due to replacement or upgrade.

I'm very happy to read that a new, and hopefully substantially improved, import system is in place for ME3.

Recently ran into this problem last night. For some reason or another I can't transfer my Lady Shep, even though the system "sees" her. Gonna try beating the game again, matbe sitting through the credits has something to do with it? We'll see I guess.

Do you mean that the importer sees her, but cannot select her? A few people have run into issues like that, due to the tool using the d-pad for navigation rather than thumbsticks. If you are just unable to select the career, try using that control instead :)

I'll give that a shot, but her name is in red, unlike one of my earlier playthroughs on my first import. Either way, thanks for the info Posted Image.

Did you run the configuration tool?  The savegames need to be located in an /ME1 subfolder, and will be moved there automatically by the configuration tool if you tell it where the ME1 savegames are located.

There is no means to delete an importable savegame on Xbox.  However, keeping the save around should not affect your ability to import other saves.

If the importer sees the save, it is importable - make sure you're using the d-pad to select the save you want, rather than the thumbstick, as it uses that button to navigate saves.

And re: BioWare, don't I qualify? :(  (still no tag on my name though..)

@Brian. I'm sorry. I wasn't aware you were a Bioware minion. What's the official position on this snafu?

Just finished ME2. Almost 46 hours to complete, but my save is on a MU so I could play at home and at my girlfriend's. What are my options for preserving this to not have a repeat of the hours of grief it took to get my ME1 save (the L37, not L50 one) into ME2 when ME3 comes out? Can I move it to the HD - since copying is verbotten - or do I have to sacrifice the space on the MU for the next 2+ years while we wait? Forgive us for being extremely gun shy after this debacle.

You should be fine to move the savegame file to your hard drive using the Xbox memory management tools. I've moved files around locally at work in that manner without issue, so it should be fine for you.

edit:  I can't spell apparently :(

Just reading through this thread.....i'm starting to feel some baaaad anxiety about this..T_T But i guess i got semi-lucky in a sense because i don't even have my old file of ME1(from about 3-4yrs ago) because of 360 issues(microsoft go eff yourself..). I will say at first i was a lil bit angry at having to do over the whole story again after all this time but in a sense i guess i would have had to do it either way apparently, based on this bootlegg transfer system. People like me wont have it so bad(hopefully~_~) seeing as i need play all the way through ME1 anyway. But i do i have one quick question...i've read several things about what some pre-requisites for file transfers are. Like fully complete the game and such..but if anyone had a list of all the possible things to do(or not to do) it'd really help me from winding up on the news for playing highway leap frog...

P.S. Why the hell did EA/Bioware go with such a awkward way of getting the DLC. Honestly i don't care what they were thinking,if thinking at all....>.>. But that was way more confusing than i thought it'd be...(I typed to much...but they MADE me do it)

Guys, its really simple. For PC
1). open the main menu
2). open the configuration tool
3). click the tab that has "saved games"
4). find the folder where you keep your savegames
5). when exit save configurations

PS. this is for PC version:bandit:

Just to let you know I found a solution to the problem. Sorry if someone already have figured it out, but I don't bother to look through 16 pages of comments. Note that this is a solution for PCs only.

What you do to make the characters visible on the ME1 import screen is: go to my documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 1/save. Copy all of the content in here and paste it in documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 2/save/ME1. Now just open the game, start a new game and load one of these saves.

The Xbox is a different matter. As I said, this works only for PC, but something similar could work if you can only locate and copy/paste the saved games to the ME2 folder (or something) on the Xbox.

Seeing that this is a 360 board for tech problems I can't help you here (what are PC tech questions doing on the 360 boards puzzles me to be honest). You might want to try on the PC tech boards for proper advice; when you do remember to check the reporting stickies. The tech experts there need that information in order to help you.

I find it utterly despicable that a proper solution was never found for those who started a New Game+ after finishing the game, and of course underwent a change in consoles and/or hard drives over the past five years.

I wanted to play through the 360 version of ME2 earlier in preparation for Mass Effect 3. (I had already played through the PS3 and PC versions multiple times, but no longer use those systems frequently.) In my 360 playthrough of Mass Effect 1, I beat the game over four years ago and of course chose the New Game+ option upon completion. As a result, I do not have the final auto-save before the end of the game.

What I find absolutely baffling (and in fact, pathetic) is that a developer such as Bioware cannot adhere to industry standards in customer support that have been in place for almost a decade. This standard is simply: if an issue with your product disrupts the intended experience for the customer, try to fix it.

This is a company that cannot apply a simple title update, patch, hotfix in two years, much less do something nice for those affected by your negligence such as providing keys for the save-creating ME:Genesis comic. This is a company that is grafted to the idea that a customer is seen as a sale instead of a human being. A company that does not deserve my money.
Pre-order cancelled. Thank you for ensuring that I did not make the mistake of buying a Bioware game ever again.

End of line.
