I tried deleting my "Bringing Down the Sky" and "Pinnacle Station" saves and it still won't work. I'm heading out in a little bit to rent/buy a copy of ME so that I can start playing this today.

I had the same problem with ME 1.Problem is because every playtrougth ME give a hidden save in Xbox 360 cache memory.I lost my new game + save everytime, when you use option to clean cache.

The seriously destroyed command and conquer. They went all out with destroying that game. I've hated them ever sense also. I was disapointed to hear the took over development of mass effect 2.

on the ME2 website's FAQ listing..the question is asked about importing the save info. from ME1... The answer was that the saves files MUST be on the original device (where they were originally saved to)... this totally SUCKS... I had the notorious red ring a few times..and have since upgraded to an elite..and copied all my ME1 save files onto a MU then onto my Elite's HDD..I do have ME1 (game on demand) and the saves work for that..but, they don't show up for ME2 !!!!!! What the HELL ??!!?!?! Why doesn't/won't ME2 find the files if they are no longer on the ORIGINAL device?? Many people also upgraded their HDD's after MS made the larger 120G ones... that means that we are all screwed for ugrading?!?!?

First the all the CRAP with DA:O and now THIS??!?!?! Granted, I would have purchased ME2 even without the ability to incorporate ME1 characters, BUT this was a BIG part of wanting to do so ... what's next..all those who upgrade again (by choice or MS faulty hardware) will lose all ME2 save info. when trying to bring their characters into ME3 if they don't have them on their CURRENT storage device if they no longer have it?!?!?!?
++ sorry if this is a little jumbled..not much sleep last night.

Been reading these forums a lot lately, and I finally got my damn account working so I can post! I think it needs to be said that as much as this sucks for ALL of us that we're having to do all this or shell out extra cash to get our saved characters; let's not forget a few things:
1. I don't think Bioware meant to screw any of us over and force us to go out and buy a new copy of ME1 or DL it from the marketplace. I think in their minds once you had the game save you'd be good and ready to go. It didn't out that way, it sucks, they need to fix it, but this is something that started working on a long time ago and they might not have foreseen everything. Mistakes happen, this is a BIG ONE but it's a human mistake. It's not like they're making a lot of money off ME1 sales since a lot of people are buying them used just to get their crap back.
2. While I know a lot of us despise EA for our own reasons *cough*Madden*cough*, excuse me, *ahem* they are not to blame for this, since Bioware was working on ME2 before EA took over and really, all EA did was publish the damn game. Bioware still worked on it, it's largely the same team that worked on ME1. While I'm not trying to say we should burn Bioware at the stake, I don't think it's fair to give EA so much crap. Granted, EA could've taken steps to help ensure that Bioware knew the import thing worked especially since so much hype was built around it, but again, they can't account for every gamer, and once ME1 was out in the wild prior to EA having any involvement in Bioware to begin with, I'm not sure there's much they could down give that many of us had already done things that probably contributed to us not having our saves in the first place due to the filing system Bioware already had in place.

They are called betaware for good reason... Let us just hope our good friend the pirates can come up with an un-official path/fix to yet another problem that should have been fixed before release.

This is terrible. I was completely psyched for Mass Effect 2 and now I find out that I need to finish a Mass Effect 1 playthrough in order to get to it. I finished Mass Effect 1 about 4 times with one character. Why on Earth should I have to do it all over again because I ran out of steam for a 5th run?
Between this and the terrible forced EA account to get exclusive content I had to slog through to get extra gear in Dragon Age: Origins I'm downright sick and tired of all the hoops I need to jump through to get promised content.

I was having the same problem, after checking here, i put my ME1 in and loaded the last save which happened to be in the middle of the fight with saren/soveriegn. beat him, and turned it off put in ME2 and import worked, thanks for the advice, i knew it was a good idea to keep the first!

I'm screwed too. Major oversight. I took off today to play ME2 and here I am disgusted with it now.

Same issue here - I've rebooted the system, and tried deleting other save files - still not finding anything.

Glad I just laid out $60 for a game that's most publicized feature doesn't work. I don't wanna be negative, but Bioware/EA really **** the bed on this one

Agreed. There's a nice achievement for beating the game with a character from ME1 too.
Pathetic.

Well if you have a game in progress with a new game plus with the same character your original end game save that you used to import still exists.
I assume it exists until you finish your new game+. So if you have a 50 Shep with paragon but you started a new game + and tried to go renegade but never finished your playthrough your end game save from the first time through will still be there and available for import.
Only completed saves count for import from what I understand.
IFire up ME1 and try to import existing ID. Thos files that you see available for import 'should' be the ones that are available for import to ME2.

Question as I wait for mine: Can you guys make a New Game+ in ME1 with these saves? It's important to note that the savegames don't matter, its the hidden choices file that isnt visible on HDD that is used? NG+ on ME1 uses this same file

The solution seems simple, but problematically, I no longer own a copy of ME1. Now I need to either play ME2 without an imported character, hoping that at some point BioWare releases an update, at which point I'd be re-starting... and replaying what is probably mostly the same content as if I play it now as is; or I have to go re-purchase ME1...
Hopefully a patch is in the works, otherwise it feels like I'm compelled to spend an extra $20 to get what is supposed to be a major feature of the game to work. If BioWare knows about the problem, and has any idea when or if a fix might be released, it would be nice to know about it.
