Only one of my original save files will transfer over the first one I ever played strangely, Same hard drive different xbox, Could this also be due to the downloadable content from the first game as my first playthrough that wasn't out yet so that character never played it? Would be nice if this was listed in the known issues at least to show that it is being looked into at least.
ME2 can't find my ME1 saves.

im glad i didnt go to the midnight launch. that would've sucked.
it still sucks, because i had to redownload the DLCs, and play through half the game again.

I'm gonna go best of seven quater flips on whether to take this game back down to Gamestop and trade it in for something that won't require me to put on a dress and dance around a fire to make PUBLISHED feature sets work.

oh thank viking god.
it worked. i beat saren, and instead of starting a new game, i took ME1 out as soon as the crdits rolled. popped ME2 in, and there she was.
i hope the rest of you get your saves to work, or a dev gets in here and helps/.

Hey, Bioware, LOOKY here, how flipping hard would it have been on the XBOX version to do a poke at the achievements tied to the XBL gamertag AND the local save games to detemine a character importation path;

Unbefrakalievable!!!! I rushed home from work, totally stoked to play with my imported character - a L50 Infiltrator on a 2nd playthru - and I get the blank import screen. Check my HD and it has saves and profiles. Pop in ME1 and load a save and it's fine. Switch back and same old blank screen. WTF?!?
Come here and see everyone saying I need to refight the end of the game on the same hard drive. Huh? Here's the problem: I played ME1 TWO YEARS AGO on the old Xbox I keep at my girlfriend's place. When I got one for my house, I copied over the last few saves and played a little of a 2nd playthru until I moved on to other games.
I have gone thru two more X360s since then, upgrading first to a 60GB model, then an Elite, I've copied the saves over via memory card or Xport. Even if I drove the 20 miles back to my g/f's, I don't even know if I've got a pre-final fight save to replay since I cleared space off my cramped 13GB HD.
The major selling point for this game and highly touted in the reviews has been the character import feature and I don't recall any fine print or reviews demurring on how it will actually work in practice - e.g. "Only saves of a finished game on the original storage device without a second career playthru started will work."
Way to fail EA/Bioware. Way to punish your most loyal and enthusiastic customers. Pathetic!

the work around worked for me. Yes we shouldnt have to do this but until the game is patched it will have to work.
Worst part is i played ME1 for 90 minutes to get in to ME2 and now i have a bug with a assault drone. only 2 hours in to ME2 and i am shooting a empty enemy bracket.....

This is very similar to my situation. My original (paragon) save file from 2007 can be imported. But the newer one (renegade) from a couple of months ago cannot. The weird thing is that I went back and finished the renegade game again a little while ago and when I try to start a new game I still can only import the older file and now I have two renegade files in yellow that I can't import.

luckily, of my saved/transferred files, I have a few saves from ME1 right near the final battle with Saren... after loading them back up and fighting him again, I can now import these characters/saves into ME2...

Was able to get my save recognized by re-beating Saren. Now if I could just get into Cerberus to get my DLC, I would be happy.

Same problem as everyone else. My original 360 had a RROD and was replaced while I kept the original hard drive so Mass Effect 2 will not allow a character import.
I had to go buy a used ME1 from a Gamestop. Pop it in my Xbox, load a save from a few years ago, finished the game and autosaved. Pop in ME2 and I can import my ME1 character along with his choices.
The ironic part is I traded in my ME1 game for credit to buy ME2. Guess Gamestop is the real winner here getting paid twice.

I have posted this in a couple of places to help those that kept the original drive. No idea why I did but I am very happy I did.
If you have the old 20 GB HDD put it back in the machine and start the game. Don't load the game to the HDD just run it . Run the import and hopefully it will find your original (hidden) game files. I started the game and saved the files to my MU and then switched back to my original HDD and it worked!

2. Hoping I have a save from near the end of ME1 so I can re-fight Saren,

4. Come home and pray it imports.
Wasted time, wasted gas, unnecessary aggravation and frustration, putting an incredibly sour taste in my mouth and feeling abused for being stupid enough to trust in Bioware and the reviewers - none of whom miraculously seemed to have the slightest problem importing; odd, no? - and all because a simple character importation routine - WHICH WAS THE BIGGEST BULLET POINT OF THIS GAME'S HYPE - doesn't work as advertised.
Show of hands: How many have any faith in Mass Effect 3 working properly and not require we replay BOTH GAMES to import a save?

between this and the dlc crap I will NEVER by Bioware/EA new again. You jam all that "support developers you like by not going to the used market" DA:O was going to get bought right after Bioshock 2. Now however it's going to wait till I can buy it used and cheap.
