Helmet off during cut scenes. What gives?

So in several gameplay videos and trailers we saw the Inquisitor and party wearing headgear during cutscenes, but in the game this is not the case, whereupon helmets disappear in cutscenes, and there is no option to have it on since it is by default off.

So, what gives? Why did they remove this feature? I found it to be cool to finally have helmet equipped during cutscenes, since I always found it kinda immersion breaking by how the helmet just suddenly disappeared. And it looks stupid especially on Vivienne and how she is bald in every cutscene out of the game during conversations.

Thats the way it's always been. They put them on for Artistic reasons

Pretty terrible, if you ask me. don't see why they wouldn't have an option, unless it heavily damages the game (which I doubt).

The disappearing helmet has bothered me since DAO.

I am disappointed that BioWare did it again.

The only reason this bothers me is because we aren't able to see Vivienne's awesome hat thing.

Yeah this is the only area it becomes an issue.  Honestly things like Vivienne's hat shouldn't be affected by toggle or whatever :P

Actually, her hat gets on my nerves for some reason.

They would need to take every possible helment into account when animating every cutscene and conversation to avoid clipping. Apparently obvious clipping is a good way to get your game to fail console certification (even if we're okay with clipping, Sony and MS worry that some people won't and thus we all have to suffer).

A good example of this is the animation of Fenris in DA2. Because his outfit was fixed, the animators didn't need to worry about big pauldrons and thus could have Fenris crane his neck this way and that. But if you modded the game to let Fenris equip pther armour, his head often clipped through the shoulders on the armour.

I'd call that a small price to pay to get the gameplay experience I prefer, but it seems I'm not allowed to prefer those things.

I'd like to be able to enable all helmets in conversations, clipping be damned.

I wish I could hide helmets for everyone except Cole and Vivienne and have that carry over into cutscenes.

It's funny that they're so worried about clipping when my qunari dude's chin is clipping through his shirt in every. f*ing. conversation. Bang-up job avoiding the clipping menace.

The helm didn't disappear in DA:O originally, and most people didn't like that. There was a mod made originally to fix it, then I think they patched it.

Personally, I think they should have made heavy helms visible only during combat while other hats stayed on all the time.

Do Qunari face paints disappear?

Agreed, that's the first time I noticed it!

No, those stay on.

I suppose the reasoning for helmet removal is "Why go through the effort of designing your character's face, and us animating facial expressions and having close-up camera shots on your face all the time if you're just going to wear a helmet that completely hides your face?"

I've never really minded this, but I can see why it would bother some people. I know that I would prefer Vivienne's hat always stay on, its too awesome.

Also, I found the "Hat of the Inquisitor" (AKA the sex hat, because that's what people called it.) and put it on Solas, it was awesome.

I'm one that hates the helmet on when in conversation.  And many others. There was a complaint that you could not remove helmet during conversations in DAII, and they fixed that with a patch.  But sure, an option to keep helmets on in conversation would be good for people that want it.

I personally find the characters standing around talking in full helmets to be downright weird.  So I'm happy to have them gone in cutscenes by default.  I even use the toggle to make them invisible all the time and I'm happy the toggle is there.  That being said, I'm 100% toggle friendly.  If I'm enjoying my "no helmet" toggle, no reason y'all shouldn't be enjoying the "all helmet" toggle too.  ;)  I highly doubt they'd take the time to patch that in, but maybe they'll implement such a thing in a future DA game.

And I definitely agree that hats are kind of different and OK to have on during cutscenes.  Still, animating all that would be a PitA, so I understand why they took a pass.  I suppose they could have made Vivienne's hat thing part of her body shape and thus always there and always animated.  Probably that would have pissed off a different set of people who hate that hat....  There's just no winning.

I wish there was a "Show Helm of the Inquisitor during cutscenes" option. That thing just looks so freaking cool on the Inquisitor. I remember wanting to get that helmet so much when I was watching the early gameplay videos (it was shown during cutscenes too).

They streamline/simplify the options too much. This and the 'tactics'

BW must not have heard of 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'

Always one step forward, two steps back.

I didn't know this either. That's crazy.

SWTOR has it down in this case - character specific helmet toggles. That's what I would have liked. My dude looks awesome alongside Viv with their fancy hats, but Sera in her Grey Warden Helm is a little eh. Would have liked to have it that way.

Judging by the appearance of it, she's secretly waiting to transform into a Qunari.

To me, it makes perfect sense to remove the helmets.  In movies, hell, in real life, people generally take off gear like this when having a conversation.  I don't know too many people who would leave a full shield motorcycle helmet on when talking to others.  Well, anyone except the pump jockey where they're filling up.

There's a reason why some of us spend hours in the character creator.

The last thing I want to see is most of the hideous helmets that Bioware notoriously designs.  Especially if you're a warrior (non-qunari).  Might as well just put a bucket on your head.  I'd say first they're terrible at hair design followed closely by helmets.

If the "iconic" Inquisitor helmet were tossed at us closer to the start of the game instead of gated behind a dragon kill on map that's completely optional to explore and has no main story implications what-so-over perhaps I might feel differently.  Especially since that's the helmet featured in all the demos that people are referring to in this thread.

Made me laugh if you go play SWTOR free to play it used to be like $3.50 in the cash shop to enable the "hide helmet" option.  Not sure what it is now.

That's crazy. I've been a subber since early access in 2011. Probably because I hate myself.

It's a great game if you treat it as a 2 player Bioware RPG. The F2P model they adopted is awful though.

They cant have helmets on in cut scenes because then you could Hide Viviennes bald head, and Cassandras boycut.

That wouldnt be inclusive and would offend too many people.

Please try to be more tolerent.
