Is the schematics perk worth getting or should I spend my perks elsewhere??

my advice? take it for the robes and robe+staff upgrades
the staff itself is sub par to what you get during quests and not worth it, but the robes and respective upgrades are VERY good especially if taken early on.
so yes its most def worth it, I dont know if luck will get you good robes with drops or schematics or not, but I doubt whatever drops you may get are as good as the schematics for the robes and upgrades.

Warrior schematics perk was disappointing. Was pretty far in when I took, so maybe would've been useful earlier.

Thanks for the feedback Ganen. I will try it later and see how it does. I will save before getting it, just in case.

It's all Master Work Tier 2 stuff. If you get it early it's useful, but you will eventually replace all of it.

As for Staves, you can get awesome ones from loot easily. At least I have come across quite a few purple staves.

Havent seen a T3 rare staff yet, nor a rare T3 robe... The T2 inquisition perk is nice if you got it early game (like 10ish) but worthless if you already reached 15+.
And so far every rare T3 I found was bough of a merchant.
Has anyone found an epic T3, or common/rare T4 schematic yet?

I would not invest perk points for schematics. There are awesome schematics (armor and staff) to be bought in the Exalted Plains at a very low price, until you save up some 10k gold (which isn't hard at all), then you can go to the merchant in the Hissing Wastes to buy top notch armor schematics for your mage.

lol in that case dont bother with crafting anything until you get the highest level stuff >_<
having powerful gear early on makes a big difference, its not like this is a MMO where only endgame matters ![]()

T3 is as far as schematics go. The best I found in loot in my whole playthrough were rare T3, and those were very specific armors; a Keeper light armor only usable by elves, and a Legion of the Dead heavy armor only usably by dwarves. I also found two T3 rare weapons (bow and axe) on dragons. The axe in particular overshadowed any other 1-hander I found all game long.
The perk is OK if you get get at level 10ish. The schematics you get will last you for quite a few levels. Once at level 15+ don't bother, you will soon be able to enter Emprise du Lion and Hissing Wastes which contain a lot of T3 schematics.

Try to find Virulent Staff, a blue ice element Tier 2 staff with 10% chance of walking bomb cast. It's good for mid level play
I find 1-2 of it when opening tier 2 chests

I found some ore on the Costal range that says it is tier something, master. I believe it is the Summer ore. Not sure. I did get the schematics for a enchanters coat from a merchant in Val Royeaux, along with the arms and legs. It had 3 slots. Some of the stuff was over 2000 gold. I had some really good crafting material and now, at level 7 I have armor that has about 110 base, health 40%, 2.5% barrier damage bonus, 14% spirit resistance, 1.5% magic defense and points to willpower and magic. Do not know if that is any good or not.
I also added a curved shaft to the dragon staff, along with a different blade at the bottom, and got some damage bonuses there, but have not any clue as to where to get blank runestones, as I have a couple of schematics for them.

You can get blank runestones in Skyhold from one of the merchants there, Bonny Sims’s Shop.

ok, question. I found this great post listing the different weapons and schematics for sale at all the different places. Unfortunately, some of the things aren't showing up in my game. Apparently the "lifetaker" staff is supposed to be available in the western approach, and in the exalted plains (along with the witch staff), and it is not showing up. Do certain upper tier items unlock as you progress? Do the stores add to the inventory after certain events? Anyone know?

The witch staff is outside the armory where you upgrade your stuff. But it does not show up until Haven is attacked and you have to help the guy break down the door on your way back from firing the second giant balastier. Trund?? or what ever it is called.

Do you have "The Short List" inquisition perk? It adds rare inventory to merchants' shops.

I find crafting to be essential from the very beginning of the game, unless one is playing on Normal.
On Nightmare, crafting is imperative. I started a new playthrough yesterday as a Mage and for the first few hours in the Hinterlands I was getting slaughtered. I couldn't even beat level 4 Rifts and I had to disengage from most fights. And I was using the Dragon Armor and Staff, which are superior to vanilla starting equipment but on Nightmare they don't help much.
Only after I had saved up 755 gold and gone to Orlais to buy the Magister Staff Tier 2 schematic, the enemy encounters became enjoyable at last.

Is there a schematic for the Dalish Keeper robe or is it only one item in the game?

It depends at what point in game you decide to unlock it.
I'm level 15 Rift Mage, and all schematics were amazing for me (currently questing in West Approach) as I haven't found any better schematics for my mage (got some tier 2 stuff but they were worse than those provided by the perk).

From what I read, there is a merchant in the sands region that has great schematics including the one on the cover/game trailer.

There is supposed to be tier 4 stuff.

There is a War table mission 'Locate Weapon of Tyrdda Bright-Axe' if you find enough landmarks in 'Wilderness areas.' For me that was all the landmarks in Fell Mire, Storm Coast and all but one in Hinterlands (dragon area).
Its a 24hr mission (depending on who you use) and you get a epic 100+ DPS staff (well at least I did).

There is an Keeper Robe schematic, but the robe has no arm and leg enhancement slots. The final robe is an very fine craft but other t3 schematics with additional arm and leg enhancements can get you better values.
