My biggest complaints are how the schematics are leveled and how certain armors do not allow you to add sleeves or leggings, yet do not make up for this with bonus stats... these two flaws in the system force us to stick with one or two high-end armors for unreasonably long stretches of time. Admittedly it's possible to get away with sacrificing a small amount of armor rating to wear a particular design, but many armors within the same category look very similar to one another, so there is little reason to do this. Armors that don't come with slots for sleeves and leggings are out of the question, however... I get that these models are somewhat unique but come on now. These armors usually don't have impressive armor ratings and are far too weak without the additional bonuses these slots provide. Don't even get me started on unique items... no schematics available for some of the best looking armors and weapons in the game (mostly weapons), yet they are so pitifully low level in their current forms that there is absolutely no reason to use them? It's mind boggling... Kingdoms of Amalur had the exact same problem... fancy, awesome looking unique weapons and armor, and a robust crafting system that gave us 4 very strictly tiered materials with which to craft armor and weapons. Whether these custom armors looked good or not is a matter of opinion, but it's hard to deny that the vast range of unique skins were wasted on mediocre weapons and armors that would never approach the power of crated gear...
Also, whatever happened to crafting armor for mages that looked like heavy armor? Are metal helmets supposed to fulfill that promise? I guess that's technically the case, but... that doesn't sound like what we were led to believe...
Also, I wish we could somehow preview the armors that schematics we buy in stores will produce before purchase, but I'm guessing this is a PS3 issue that isn't a problem on PC or current gen platforms... they could at least make it so that the shop selling the schematic had a set of the armor in stock so that we could preview it that way. This is the case sometimes, but it should always be true... having to save, buy, sit through multiple loading screens to reach a forge, and then possibly reload the game if it doesn't look good or has lousy stats (they also don't tell you the stats of the gear before you buy a schematic...
) is time consuming when it really didn't need to be this way.
