I tend to like romances that tie in well with the story-- so, like Solas, Morrigan, Alistair, Anders. I also like romances that can, potentially, end terribly or get super twisty (like Blackwall).
Also, I feel that, despite the great number of same-sex LIs, their romance arc doesn't interact with the main-plot as well as some other options... .... looking at the series as whole (apart from Anders). Which is a shame.
So, yeah, I ideally want lots of plot-relevant and/or story-heavy romance options.

I would like a man who isn't hiding something or broken. Alistair is the closest we've gotten here ever (I guess he was hiding something but he fesses up before the romance really gets going), and he was my favorite BioWare romance of all time. All the men are so emo. Bull isn't, but he's for everyone, and even he seems kind of broken after his whole personal quest thing. And I haven't done his romance because people seem to say it's about how he's basically into weird sex, and he doesn't really fall in love with you, so not exactly what I mean by normal. I just want a nice, normal bloke. Like the guy who's flirting with the girl near the stables in Haven, talking about horses and day-to-day in Ferelden.
Scout Harding.
I will second this. Race-gated to dwarves, but for both genders, I say.

I want a romance option that actually ties into the central story of the series.Morrigan was one in origins,Anders was another(but not as much),Solas is one such option. If you are a dalish elf you learn something profound about the lore and you find out Solas is a literally a legend.
The main problem I find with Bioware stories is that the companion characters are quite inconsequential and insignificant for the main story and the villains are too far away.Stories are about people you care about and their independent decisions. They shouldn't just be following you.The story should be driven by people you care about, not just monsters, but monsters you were in a relationship with once.
Look at last of us for example, the whole game is designed to make us care about the little girl, her final decision at the end made people flip their table(exaggeration of course). Also a good soundtrack

I know a bunch of people already said this, but DWARVES. For the love of cheese, I've been waiting almost fifteen years here.
As a straight woman, I would probably favour a male dwarf over a female one, but if it were a girl as cute as Harding and Dagna then that would be just fine by me.

A character like Knight-Commander Meredith, only without the lyrium fever.
A woman who would siege your ramparts? Storm your keep? Topple your Viscount? Show you just where you can shove that lyrium idol?

So.......you're complaining because female characters get:
Blackwall (all races) - An imposter who's been lying to you the whole time, and he leaves you and the inquisition after you sleep with him. Fun times
Solas (elves only) - A bald squinty eyed twig-man who's more interested in the spirits of the fade than real life....and he leaves you at the end and....
Cullen (elves and humans only) - A drug addict who you get to either mother hen him out of his addiction or help him cave into it. Fun times! At least he stays....(and btw, he's not 'super model good looking') (although I will say his endearing awkwardness grew on me...and I bemoaned his inclusion as a option)
IB - He's for everyone so I'm not going to say anything about him. (although after listening to the Chantry Sisters gossip about sleeping with IB.... .)
My wish for a future romance: a DragonAge romance with a guy who 1) isn't broken and in need of being repaired/redeemed due to some tragic happenstance 2) someone without ulterior motives, oh, and 3) someone who doesn't flake out on you and leave. A dwarf as hot as Harding or Varric would also be good ....I like their no-nonsense style.
(my thoughts only good Bioware straight female romance so far in DA or ME has been Garrus ....and he's a flippin' metaloid bird/cat something or other! )
Agree with all of these! As a female gamer our options were:
Blackwall - Older Biker Dude
Solas - Keep expecting Harry Potter or Hermione to start tossing socks at him, yelling "Dobbie you're FREE!!!"
Iron Bull ... ... ...
...... ![]()
Dorian is far and away the most dashing, most handsome, most intriguing man ...the ultimate bad boy
...but he's unavailable. ![]()
That leaves Cullen ...dear, sweet, tortured soul ...he looks rugged in DA:O ...practically dreamy in DA:2 ...then DA:I comes along, and he got these sunken eyes, square face, wider jaw, broader nose, and ...no curls for "Curly"? Reminds me of Alistair's return in DA:2 ...looked like ...well ...somebody else entirely. Thankfully the exceptional story line and dialogue saved it! ![]()
Frankly I liked the way DA:2 let you romance who you wanted without "gates". After all, the fun of RPG is that it's your head cannon ...right?
Sure some guys were a little
when Anders flirted with them ...but it was one small glitch in HOURS of game play. Just RP that he got drunk and came onto you ...not that big of a stretch. The man lost his cat then found a spirit of Vengeance who's crowding his head all day with ...Mages are victims ...your best mate is Tranquil ...and let's go blow up the Chantry ...Hey! What?!? ![]()
Point is ...college/circle/mistakes happen ...that's still no reason to lock out options for the next time, right? ![]()

This is a fun topic! As someone who plays the m/m romances as they are available (kudos to Bioware for having so many options already), I'd still like to see a male love interest that is not:
a] an elf;
b] a mage.
I'm very sorry, but I don't find either Zevran or Fenris very attractive. Zevran is overly promiscuous (and I can't take Jon Curry's voice for him seriously) and Fenris is all ANGST ANGST ANGST, not to mention looking entirely improbable wielding a greatsword taller than he is. Anders was consumed by his cause, and while Dorian is pretty cool, I'd still like to see a character like the one I play in in my friend's Dragon Age RPG-verse, a gruff soldier-type, not truly believing in one ideology or another, advocates ruthless/pragmatic options as well as smart battlefield tactics, focussed on getting the mission done, yet is very sincere to the few he opens his heart to, and an absolutely loyal friend and teammate.

The idea of a LI who already has a child actually sounds cool to me.
Also, dwarves. Bet you didn't see that one coming.

Dwarf romance, please! Personally, I'd like a cute female dwarf, as I'm still sad I didn't get to romance Sigrun in Awakening, but any dwarf love would be welcome in my eyes.

I don't even want the sex scene. Just, y'know, cuddling.

If Sigrun was a possible romance I would have played through Awakening at least one more time just for that. I didn't take my male dwarf warden into Awakening but I would have. And now I have to see Scout Harding and Dagna and know there's no hope. ![]()

Well Merrill is taken by my Hawke, so just another cute bisexual female voiced by Eve Myles, preferably Elven. (Yes, I do have a bit of a thing for Eve Myles voice, its awesome)

Well a romance with someone who doesn't have a grown child. So you have the added difficulty of getting along with the wee one as well. I don't think anybody has done that, Bioware or otherwise.

In fact, just the voice of Eve Myles, a spirit of some sort, that is literally composed of her voice, that would be fine with me.

I want someone who approaches you first.
Yup. It's funny how it always the Hero trying to get into everyone pants. They show interest in you only after you showed a lot of interest in them. Before that they just ignore you.

EDIT: The word "homosexual" without the "sexual" part is censored? Why?
Because it's pretty clear that if you type like that: you're a homophobic person and don't care about others.

Why not just have no romances at all for one game so they can use that time to work on the plot.
