Dumb question, I just started using this but after I cast it I hear a sound affect but don't see anything as in an enemy being highlighted or affect or such.  Are they supposed to be visibly marked?

It has a little purple mark. When its attached to your enemy, your ability will be a different colour

How are you liking it, I considered taking this on my second run.

Its really good vs brutes/pride demons/behemoths/guardians/bosses but not really worth it vs everything else..

I have no clue so far.  The description sounds good but most of the time I don;'t know who has been affected at all.  I'll have to try it out in  a less frenetic battle so I can see the effect.

There are 4 distinct indicators that your mark of death is active:

1) Sound. If it hits a wall or terrain in general it'll cling, if it hits a target it'll sound like.. well.. a piece of metal hitting flesh. The two are very similar, especially if your target is at long range so I'd use the other 3 to double check and not rely on sound alone.

2) Like penguin said, the purple mark. It's hard to spot on most enemies but ridiculously useful if you hit a stalker/shadow since it gives their position away. You can run but you can't hide when you're lit up like a Christmas tree.

3) This is the one I personally use- the skill icon itself will change when you hit a target. The red skull will turn yellow white-ish and the whole icon will become brighter.

4) You'll have it pop up in your active effects. On PC it's right above the health bar on the mid right corner, don't know where it is on consoles. Make sure to detonate it when it starts to flicker, it means you have 1-2 more seconds left.

How can you not know who you're casting/ shooting arrows at? Do you just spam buttons and hope for the best? Aim for the mob you want (a boss level mob with marked for death) and then hit it with everything you've got, once you've done a nice amount of damage trigger your marked foe death. It does more damage the more damage you do to the target. If you cast it then trigger it right away you'll do about 600 damage. Cast it then unload on the mob and then trigger it, you'll do maybe 4-5 k. Needless to say it's a beastly godly move :-D
